Sorry but Shakira is as interesting as Xtina, who is just a "wailer diva" that's a dime a dozen. Admittedly she can wail as loud as anyone if not louder - Shakira's the one who is inimitable. And more to the topic: the Colombian can't do much wrong on Voice, since Xtina didn't raise the bar (artists on her team scored last place in all three seasons, right?

^ You may have a point.

I reckon her foreign accent may have a lot to do with that.

But then that's why I love that she's on the US version of the Voice. That shows her guts and hopefully will help her in her push to finally put America in the same backpocket where she's put the rest of the world.

And of course that would be historic and totally unprecedented (for someone whose first or mother language isn't English of any type).

Holly has good vocals, not totally perfect but has the potential, love how she took the song at some points.
Michelle shows how you never judge a book by its cover.:oh: I'm sure she may be those nerdy shy type girl in school but suddenly came alive when performing. got me pleasantly surprised. Her vocals are pretty good. I am sure that was the best version of that song I've heard.:oh:

I just read your excuses for everything people here have told you about Shakira. Waka Waka will for sure be well remembered and popular at every World Cup!

I guess you live in a world entirely dominated by U.S media and music (of course Aguilera is more famous in the States, she is American after all), but Shakira is a megastar all through Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, even India...not to mention North America, Australia etc.

Even Shakira's last Spanish album sold more copies in the U.S than Aguilera's last english album...

Loving watching Shakira every week...so gorgeous

And commerical success isn't an indicator or a measure of lasting impact?

You stand by Beautiful as having a lasting worldwide impact due to its message (bc self empowerment is a brand new song concept), and the GLAAD award, but dismiss the worldwide reach of Waka Waka due to it just being the theme of the World Cup. It makes sense to dismiss a song as not being well remembered when it was an uplifting upbeat anthem, for one of the largest sporting events in the world.

No one is hating on Christina, we're hating on your thought process and weak attempts to shut down Shakira's mass appeal due to being a pressed stan.

why are aguilera fans so desperate? is it so hard to accept that she isn't happening anymore? just enjoy her music and don't try to sell her off as a bigger international star than shakira – because she just isn't – or someone whose songs will stand the test of time better – because that's pure hypothesis, and a very fanboyish one at that. to suggest "hips don't lie" is shakira's only international hit is just ludicrous.

At least do your research before you continue to contribute to this mess of a conversation.

Shakira's last two tours have spanned 5 continents each and have visited over 40 countries. How can you not call those world tours?

Xtina had to cancel her tour in her own home country while Shakira's last tour was seen by 2.5 million people around the world. Enough said.

You asked if Shakira has ever had a world tour and if she has been to Asia, and the answer to both questions is YES.

Are you trying to argue that if you do not go to "Japan, Korea, Australia, and China" it is not a world tour?

And it does not matter that Christina is bigger than Shakira in countries like China. The reality is that the overwhelming majority of music fans in China and Korea do not know about Christina. K-pop, Cantopop, J-pop, and Mandopop artists dominate the music markets in East Asia, so stop trying to make it sound like Christina is some popular singer here in this part of the world.

yeah, most of the people here definitely listen to K-pop, Cantopop, J-pop, and Mandopop, but there is also people listening to English pop song, but i don't think there are many people listen to spanish, so there is why Hong Kong have HMV to sell record mainly English muysic/movie, aisan music(KPop JPop) not much cantopop and mandopop.

radio do not play much spanish usic, she never a top10 seller over here, i ust saying the fact she is not popular in East Aisa, Spanish is never a main languague in east Asia, you can't campare Spanish to English here(who care Macau where oewned by Portgual before), but in gennerally(not coparing to Asian music), Xtina is bigger than Shakira in every aspect. it's geographcall languague barries.

and iknow Shakira is popular in America (but not maintain pop Music, AT40) and some prt of the europe. i never said she's not.

Well, I live in Asia, and Shakira is pretty well known here even if Japan wasn't included in her latest world tour :p People know Waka Waka and Hips Don't Lie, but I'm sure they'd struggle to name a Christina Aguilera song if they even know who she is.

Shakira's previous world tour (Oral Fixation Tour in 2007) was even bigger and extensive than the one you're talking about anyway.
She's had sell out concerts in India, Egypt and Turkey and performed some of her hits in China two years ago at a New Year's Eve concert...just look on youtube. She's a big name in Australia too (I lived there too), she's performed in Japan before, just the logistics of making a world tour including all of the world's music industries in one is extremely expensive and difficult.

Anyway, you're reaaaaaally going to struggle to find a female solo artist who is more globally successful than Shakira, and obviously she sh*ts all over Aguilera in that department..

For starters, the song and video (which featured a gay couple kissing, a cross-dresser, an anorexic girl, etc.) inspired a lot of gay youths (amongst others). There's obviously no way to get exact figures of the number of people it touched but I think the recognition from GLAAD and other GLBT associations is a good indicator of its impact

It was actually Akerlund's video, not Xtina's song that won the award, I believe. Just as it was Perry's lyrics, not your fave's vocals, that are so "inspiring".

It's not a good analogy. How much of the continent being "inspired [...] to put aside racial tension & upheaval in favour of a unified celebration of sport" was due to the World Cup and how much was due to the song itself? And Xtina had more creative input than you think. She kept fighting for the song although Linda Perry wanted to keep it for herself. And then there's the question of how big a role a singer plays in the interpretation of a song, which will just open another debate

Equally, how much of the inspiring was done my Xtina's vocals?

They are both anthems of the powerless. The arguments you're using to discredit Shakira's impact with Waka Waka are the same as the ones you're overlooking when touting Beautiful as proof of Xtina's impact. You can't have it both ways!

Blake's reasoning is so lame. Non-country artists should avoid him at all costs

Adam has finally produced an epic battle :rocker2: Blake still has yet to have one :oh:

Season 1 : Perfect - Niki vs Vicci

Season 2 : If I Ain't Got You - Anthony vs Jesse

Season 3 : Vision of Love - Trevin vs Amanda

Season 4 : It's A Man's World - Judith vs Karina

Vision of Love was the best ever for me, followed closely by Perfect and If I Ain't Got You. Last night wasn't even close to those, IMO

Another bad decision from Blake :tape: And this time it forced the other coaches to use their steals -_-

I think Blake's intent is to win with a country artist this time - maybe he is sensitive to snarks from within that community of him being not loyal enough to them (for winning The Voice twice with non-country singers).

And his attempt to convert Cassadee Pope into a country artist can be regarded as a failure. She's long reverted back to her roots.

She's surely going to have some country in her music, as she recorded the majority of her album in Nashville and is touring with Rascal Flats this summer.

^ Oh I didn't know that. The last I heard of Cassadee is last month where she is a featured artist on a new single released by an alternative band. So I concluded Cassadee has had enough of the cowboys and is back hanging out with the rockers again.

I guess she hasn't given up on country yet - but I reckon ultimately she will not really fully convert (she won't be "country country" but rather "Taylor Swift country").

I agree with that last statement, and that's in line with what Cassadee has said about the kind of artist she wants to be too

The set-up of the "battle" rounds is the one thing I don't like about the Voice. The format means that good singers get booted too early. Of course the "steal" is supposed to help stop that but . . .

Even a more straightforward format wouldn't stop the coaches (*cough* Blake *coach*) from making bad decisions

^ But the candidates make bad decisions also.

Like yesterday when Caroline chose to join team Adam instead of Usher - it's a stupid move because by now (after the end of auditions) Caroline should have known that joining Adam's team now is basically suicide.

OMG, Luke :help:

You're going to be cannon fodder for Team Country :o

Raiden
Apr 23rd, 2013, 09:21 AM
I initially thought Savannah may have a bit of a hard time against the other country troop of team Blake but no, the 17 year old continues winning comfortably and handing out beatdowns (all 4 judges agreed she won the battle).

As for Luke Edgemon - I'm not sure why an R&B artist like him didn't pick Usher when he had not one but two chances (given Ursher had also turned his chair for him during auditions)
Luke said he made a strategic choice. We'll see how this "strategy" works out - needless to say I'm not optimistic.

I don't get some of these steals at all. Taylor, C Perkins, Orlando... While Christian and Patrick went home :o

Raiden
Apr 23rd, 2013, 09:05 PM
Usher got one steal left - everybody else has finished their quota I think

All in all Shakira used her steals the most effectively (both steals are an upgrade boosting her team).

On the other hand Adam and Blake seem to be stealing just to collect cannon fodder.

I love Caroline. I think she picked the worst song for her. She needs to showcase her scratches and difference and in that song she had to use her clear voice most of the time which is nothing to write home about. That was nice thought. But that's it.

silverwhite
Apr 30th, 2013, 04:00 AM
Yeah, she needs to go back to the type of song she chose for the Blind Auditions

Judith and Sarah's performances weren't as perfect as I thought, TBH, now that I've watched them in higher quality :o

And Warren got robbed by the pairings. He should have gone through instead of Amber/Caroline :o
