I say, good. There are, of course, some downsides, as few organizations might abuse it, but eventually it will give the human kind so much..

It could greatly simplify criminal trials, but even long-accepted techniques (like fingerprints) can be misinterpreted by inadequately trained ppl. In any case, it seems that this particularly technology would have 2B ordered in a specific case.

If it ever developed to the point where it could be used secretly (like in sales, or by Soviet I mean Russian spies) :p that could be a problem. Especially as a future Putin wouldn't have to send more Anna Chapman (http://www.bleedingcool.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/anna-chapman.jpg) types to the US. :awww:

Well, we are talking a memory reading, memory control ( implantation, erasure ) technology here and it is no longer science fiction. Sounds really cool to me, though , of course, extensive potential field for abuse.

Good, I'll use it to read the mind of the class's genius during exams.

Good if used correctly, utterly horrible if not.

WRONG, wrong, wrong...

But it will never happen. At least not in my lifetime...

the 5th amendment point is pretty interesting.

Yes, but it contradicts the letter of it , but not the spirit.

The objective of 5th is mostly to make sure people are not forced to falsely self-implicate. In this kind of situation it is hardly applicable.

Thing is, once you have a technology, it is next to impossible to prevent people from using it. Even if you'd ban it legally, there is enough of entities in the society who don't live by law by definition. So, at the end , all you'll get is handing them a monopoly on using the technology in question.

But, again, I expect it will be just a beginning of a long and exciting "arms race" where, once the technology is created, a counter-technology, providing a defense against this one will be soon due.

The divorce rate will rise to 100% if wives know what husbands are thinking. ;)

I can already read minds anyway.

I don't want everyone else to be able to do it, it'll just ruin it.
