Hi guys. I noticed many of you said in the voting poll for a favourite #2 player who never reached #1, that your actual favourite player was placed only at #3. You voted for your favourite #3 WTA player who never placed higher and it is ELENA DEMENTIEVA of Russia! Congratulations Elena! :)

Of course, the WTA's darling, Elena Dementieva.

Hana Mandlikova. She and Miloslav Mecir are the two players that really made me fall in love with tennis. And in hindsight I really couldn't have picked two classier players two introduce me to this sport.

Also voted Mandlikova, although I am just 22 so I didn't have the chance to watch her playing. But then, I saw her results! 4 GS, and she was just one match away from #1, but that never happened. Mandlikova my choice. :worship:

Mečíř was a great player, but he suffered from chronic back problems so he would never realize his full potential. He often travelled to some 'magic' doctor in Slovakia, who would always fix Mečíř's back for a couple of months.

Still, he became the first Olympic champion in tennis. :yeah:

Lots of great and likeable players on the list!

It's impossible to choose just one of them so I'll vote for Sabatini, Mandlikova and Pierce. :)

I voted Pierce because I like her game the best. Hana would have been 2nd, but is the best player on that list.

That's because these players were more interesting and actually good and were not vultures.

Usually, when a player is stuck at No. 3 and can't get higher, it's because there's a really good and strong rivalry going on.

These threads are irrelevant as most posters here are in their teens or early twenties. They do not remember Manuela, Amanda, Wendy, Hana, Pam, Gabriela, Nathalie or probably even Peak Mary.
Dementieva was always winning this. Normally I would vote for Manuela, Mary or Gaby but Amanda needs some support.

I understand what you are trying to say. I am 22 and never had a chance to see Mandlikova playing, but voted her because of her results... AMAZING results. If situation stays at this course, Dementieva wins this easily. However, there is still enough time for vote, till December 31. ;)

I have nothing against Elena, I really liked her, she was one of my favorite players just don't think its fair to the other players on the poll who were just as popular if not more during their time. But this thread is all in good fun and I like every single one of these girls.

 No problem because she's likeable. ;) I go for Gaby because of her all court game, heavy topspin, looks and personality and she had to win that infamous Wimbly final to become number one.

If one asked the average tennis fan and not bandwagoners, Pierce would be winning this poll hands down. She was a crowd favorite no matter where she was playing. God I miss her!

I never quite understood the huge fangirling Lena D got on this forum. She is like the most popular player ever according to the TF community. It just seems like there is an over-representation of her popularity on this forum when compared to the real world. That being said she is a sweet girl just not someone who commands attention.

I am talking about the average tennis fan, not TF posters. At the same time, I don't mean any disrespect to true Dementieva fans. I also think all this PEAK PIERCE chat devalues Mary's legacy, as it is more of a running joke here used as a parody in discussions than a true constructive analysis of her game. PS - great avatar
