In 2012 we saw 2 players breaking into the Top 10 (Kerber & Errani). In 2011 there were 2 (Kvitova & Petkovic). In 2010 there were 3 (Li, Schiavone & Stosur). In 2009 also 3 (Azarenka, Wozniacki, Pennetta). Who will be next to break into the top 10 in 2013?

These are the 9 highest ranked players who have never been in the top 10.

14. Maria Kirilenko
15. Dominika Cibulkova
16. Roberta Vinci
17. Lucie Safarova
18. Julia Goerges
19. Kaia Kanepi
20. Ekaterina Makarova
21. Varvara Lepchenko
22. Yanina Wickmayer

Last year's poll: http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=448293&highlight=will+break+top+10

Year End Top 10 or 1 week Top 10?

I have already made my predictions on this in another thread. But I can make them again here. I saw two players will crack the top 10 for the 1st time in 2012, this being typical of the last few years on the tour. I also believe those two players will come from outside the current top 20 and won't be anyone on this poll list. So my vote will go to other.

So which two players from outside the top 20 do I think will make the top 10 next year? I honestly don't have a clue. It is very wide open. But I do think there is good chance those two players will make themselves known early next year, just as Kerber and Errani did this year. So we need to keep an eye on which players from outside the top 20 get off to fast starts next year to see where our next top 10ers are coming from is my guess.

I think it will be some big surprise such as Robson, Stephens or even Hsieh. However, I voted Safarova. If that girl clears her head and plays at least in every third match like she played in Fed cup, she will be in spot 9/10 very soon.

Someone outside the top 20.

Someone outside the top 20.

That is on my mind to. Robson, Stephens or Hiseh.

Someone outside the top 20.

You can vote for Lepchenko or Wickmayer :)

That is on my mind to. Robson, Stephens or Hsieh.

If any of the three listed happens I think TF will rage out.

How about someone outside the top 20 OTHER THAN LEPCHENKO OR WICKMAYER then. :haha:

Can't even see one of them making the top 10 next year tbh.

You can vote for Lepchenko or Wickmayer :)

No thanks. I just can't see these 2 in the top 10 next year. From the players outside the top 20, I can only see 1 or maybe 2 of these 4 making the top 10 next year. It's still unlikely though but I believe they have the best chance to make the top 10 among the 20-50 ranked players next year.

Shvedova
Barthel
Lisicki
Pavlyuchenkova

Well, Robson and Stephens are surely good enough to be top 20, but I can see them reaching top 10, if not in 2013, then in 2014. Now Hsieh - I only wrote her name because she is already top 25 and I cannot explain how (then I remember that she won 2 tournaments this year), so this girl is obviously there, but we are mostly putting her aside.

Errani seems to be so far the only weak spot among Top 10 so only one newcomer possible
Vinci, Ula Radwamska or someone of Petrova-Zvonareva-Kuzzy type(back)

WHY? will TF "rage out"???

If Robson and Stephens snatch wigs next year then they have every right to be Top 10. It's the same with any other player.

Raged out could be a good thing or a bad thing, don't always take the negative side.

Though TF kind of raged out when Errani reached Top 10 :oh:

I'm with those who say that it will be someone outside the top 20. Who? i'm not so sure, but there are plenty of players who can definately get there is they stay consistent, and play well throughout the season.

I don't however, see it being one of those young players who's names have been thrown around in this thread.

Any week in the Top 10. Not year end.

I can't see any of those mentally unstable teenagers making the top 10 :tape:

From youngsters, I give most chances to Robson, if she is mentaly ready for that step.

I hope Kirilenko and Safarova

The safest option is definitely other:lol:

Who knows, my first thought glancing at the ranking was McHale, but she's maybe a bit young. But Suarez Navarro, Paszek, and maybe Pironkova seem to be in the right age and ranking range. That is if there was a pattern. Also Lisicki, but she seems to do better when coming from further behind to thrive on the wave of amazing comeback.

None of them would make it, hopefully. I mean they all are worse than Shahar Peer. :o

McFail is a possibility if she's healthy and improve her backhand but not next year, in 2014 or 2015.
Hoping to see Safarova or Vinci into the top 10 next year, at least for one week.
Good for the game if that's happen though.

Maybe Vinci. I think Venus might take one of the open slots so I don't know if anyone else will be able to squeeze in.

Tough one. The current top 12 seem pretty strong at the minute and Venus is bound to make a charge at some point so there might not be room for many newbies. I don't think Errani will fall as hard as some people are predicting either.

I always predict big things for Pavlyuchenkova but it never seems to happen. Maybe this year will be different!

McFail is so average. I have never seen her as top 10 material.

McHale is just an average counter puncher, who has performed BADLY against virtually any decent elite player, not named Wozniacki. Her potential is completely limited.

I think maybe Cibulkova.

Errani is going to drop pretty hard because she can't defend half of her INTL tournaments and 4 of her P5 must count towards her ranking (-280*2-130+70+125+125=-370), with only Roma on Clay (and she didn't even do that well in 2012). On top of that, if anyone thinks Errani is going to 100% defend her F result at RG they must be crazy, QF sounds more reasonable. That adds on with a need to defend USO SF and AO QF...

Looks like Makiri or Vinci will get there this year.

Vinci's record would make her a solid top 16 seed in 2003-2004.
Two MMs titles, one Slam QF, and three QFs in Premiers shouldn't be enough.

Kirilenko could be there after the French. The only other person on the original list who may get there is Vinci.

Two MMs titles, one Slam QF, and three QFs in Premiers shouldn't be enough. Its irrelevant. The numbers are the numbers and the rankings are the rankings.
