Many people here wondered what has been going on with her.
Unfortunately she's recovering from wrist surgery and will not play in Australia 2013, according to TA.

I wish her the best but she'll be 30 next year.
Tennis Australia needs to let her go and focus on the juniors and Barty.

She has more chances of winning a Slam in the next 2 years than all the Australian juniors combined in the next 8

Mainly because she's got the game and they'll never have it.

She should have alternated wrists whilst satisfying Tin. It's her own fault.

She always seems to be injured. It may have to do with bad fitness....No matter, Jelena should probably hang it up. Almost 30 years old and not getting any better. 2009 AO was her last great run.

Dokic should have won against Dinara also :sobbing:

The last time she has been in shape was around ten years ago or so. There is no point coming back when you cannot hit the treadmill for shit. If she does so, I can see her do well in bigger events. Because in lower tier events she usually doesn't give a fuck. I guess Kuala Lumpur was an exception, but I can see her beating TOP50 players in straight sets if she has a good day. Not weighing 170 pounds helps her to have more frequent "good days."

I watched her play Isabella Holland at Sydney this year. The Australian commentators were trying so hard to not make Holland seem like the biggest scrub in the world when Dokic double bagelled her clean and dry.

Terrible news. I'd love to see Jelena make one last push at a serious career at the top, but time isn't going any slower and motivation has always been such an issue for her. Really just sad how things have gone for her in her career.

And did you ask yourself why she only plays 3 events a year? Because she's been injured more often than not during the last few years. Otherwise she would have played 25-30 events like most of the other players do.

And why don't you care? Because the H2H doesn't show the things how you want them to be?!

Lets face it she should have retired years ago. She never has had the consistency and tennis brain to be a champion and never will. How she has such die hard fans bewilders me.

So Disrespectful
Dec 22nd, 2012, 04:34 AM
I'm actually optimistic for her return. All through last year she was bothered by her wrist, slicing backhands in Australia and not going for big shots off that wing. Her game really relies on her powerful/precise backhand, so hopefully with that back and her new understanding of physical conditioning, she can have some decent results.

It's also a good sign that she's taking the time to prepare rather than rushing back in out of shape and rusty as she might have done in the past.

Why do you negative people care anyway? not sure what their point of posting that shit was this is a place for Jelly fans.

Exactly. There are hundreds of threads on here and yet some people find it necessary to go on a thread of a player they don't like, just to write negative stuff. Anyone who saw the state Dokic was in, when forced to retire against Dementieva at the French open in 2009, would realise how much playing tennis and getting back to the upper echelon means to this girl. If you're not a fan ? Why open the thread ?

If you don't like a player, it's easy to stay off the threads concerning them. I notice the main antagonists are usually those who own favourites are losing.

Like, totally dude. You don't need consistency/tennis brain at all to reach the top 5 of the rankings and the QFs at every slams, what a joke this pathetic girl is. In fact, any club player with some sort of brain or consistency could have done that. Let's hope Jelena logged on and had some sort of spiritual epiphany reading your post (after choking on her pizza made out of tomato and paprika) and calls it a career. [/sarcasm]

Yes she did. When she was a top 10-player she was a consistent hard-hitter who could both rally well and produce winners. And she won some big tournaments too, which makes her champion by definition.
