That's very, very likely going to happen.

Vika then Serena then Sharapove

Maria has a mental block against ending #1 so it would go back to someone else by years end if she got to #1 at all.

Crap, completely misread the title as "How many singles titles world #1s will have in 2013, so I picked more than 3. Oops!

But I definitely see Vika, Maria and Serena alternating as #1. I wouldn't be surprised if Serena ends up taking hold of the spot early and not letting it go, but she has a lot of points to defend post-RG and doesn't play enough events to remain secure at the top.

Between Azarenka first and then Serena. I don´t think Sharapova will get it, but she will be a consistent number three. For the rest, it seems (at least today) impossible. Some lack the big game to make winners and beat the number 1 to 3 players (Radwanska, Kerber), others have it, but lack fitness and footwork to be consistent enough (Petra).

It'll switch back and forth between Vika and Serena I think. Given that there's no OG this year I highly doubt Serena will play such a heavily schedule again and she has a ton of points to defend so she'll lose it somewhere down the road.

Vika( 6 titles) and Maria (3 titles plus 6 finals) have tons of points to defend too, and most of their points are front-loaded. Maria can probably stay consistent but i don't know how Vika is going to handle her sophomore year as number 1. So Serena has a cushion at the beginning of the year.

I think the question should be how many times will #1 change hands this year...

2 but possibly 3.

Azarenka will be #1 until the end of the AO. Then Serena will likely get and keep the #1 through the US Open. After the US Open it could be a close contest. But I would give the edge to Azarenka, because she plays more.

If Serena wins the AO and plays and does decently after that through the early clay tournaments including at the FO, she should be secure through the US Open. Serena does not have many points to defend until Charleston.

Azarenka has 4940 points to defend until Madrid and 6045 through the FO.
Sharapova has 3390 points to defend until Madrid and 6540 through the FO.
Serena has 1120 points to defend until Madrid and 2520 through the FO.

Serena is the odds on favorite to be #1 shortly after the AO, barring injury or poor playing.

Sharapova has a chance to become #1 for a brief period during AO if she wins Brisbane and Azarenka would not participate/suffer early loss in Sydney, right?
Serena most probably will clinch #1 position after AO and won't lose it up until US Open. But I have a feeling she won't be YE #1. Have no idea who will be though.
But I chose the third option.

IF she wins Brisbane, Azarenka needs Sydney SF to stay #1 during AO.

I'm pretty sure Kvitova will rebound and get a chance at #1 in 2013.

This. With all the points from the clay season, Serena should make up for it with better performances in Australia and Paris and it's unlikely for Vika and Maria to be able to match how strong they were early in 2013.

There is only one true No 1

How many Paper Kittens will we have?

I think maybe Vichka Azerenka, But remember

she gets no points for the AO and has a lot of

others to defend. So it won't be easy

I think we can at least all agree that it's going to be an exciting 2013, and 2012-2013 will probably be the 2 strongest years the WTA has had in a long time. I'm really curious to see how Vika/Maria manage to defend their points and for how long they can fend off Serena. I'm guessing they won't be able to for too long, but I kind of hope they at least make Serena work for it

If Petra gets back in her groove then it's possible but I doubt that's going to happen.

It's hard to see anyone other than 'The Big Three' holding the #1 slot.
