Public nudity ban eyed in fed-up San Francisco
LISA LEFF, AP

SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco may be getting ready to shed its image as a city where anything goes, including clothing.
City lawmakers are scheduled to vote Tuesday on an ordinance that would prohibit nudity in most public places, a blanket ban that represents an escalation of a two-year tiff between a devoted group of men who strut their stuff through the city's famously gay Castro District and the supervisor who represents the area.

Supervisor Scott Wiener's proposal would make it illegal for a person over the age of 5 to "expose his or her genitals, perineum or anal region on any public street, sidewalk, street median, parklet or plaza" or while using public transit.

A first offense would carry a maximum penalty of a $100 fine, but prosecutors would have authority to charge a third violation as a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $500 fine and a year in jail. Exemptions would be made for participants at permitted street fairs and parades, such as the city's annual gay pride event and the Folsom Street Fair, which celebrates sadomasochism and other sexual subcultures.

I know that several years ago UC Berkeley had a guy (The Naked Guy) running around campus wearing nothing but a smile and some flip-flops.

And I know that San Francisco is shall we say..... "tolerant" :o but putting up with a bunch of mofos running around naked in public, well..............

It's a fact of life that the likelihood of somebody being naked in public and them being somebody I want to see naked is usually inversely proportional.

David Thompson (http://davidthompson.typepad.com/davidthompson/2012/10/youll-notice-they-all-wear-shoes.html) nails it. It's not about nudity so much as it is about making other people see the nudity. Or as he wrote it, they want to be naked near you.

And there's probably a very understandable reason for that.

True and in this sentence he makes the real point.

"And the denials of any sexual aspect are also unconvincing, especially given that so many of the participants are enthusiasts of fetish clubs and websites catering to people who like public sex and scandalizing others, and for whom the whole point is to have an audience, whether titillated or repelled."

They frankly are getting a sexual thrill by trying to force people to share their kink unwillingly.

And I have no problem with the festival. It's pretty hard to not know that the Folsom Street Fair is going to have all sorts of sexual goings on in public. The city sanctions that and one would think that would be enough. I don't think that even NYC would allow the kinds of things that happen on the public streets of SF. I mean guys walking around in public with dildos hanging out of their asses is a bit :o. But at least you know what to expect. It's quite different when there is no Fair going on and people are going about their daily lives.
