Her ranking dropped a lot this year if i'm not mistaken.

Was actually surprised when I saw her at Wimbledon qualies, didn't expect to see someone like her there at all!

I wish her the best in the rest of her life though. Should become a model or something now.

i've been a huge fan of gise for years, and i really amn't as passionate about any current player as i was about gisela, but she seems to be happy with her decision, so i guess it is the right thing to do.

world number 1, grand slam champion and wins over sharapova and navratilova at wimbledon. not a bad career :p

Knew this since the beginning of the year and been writing it here since, so it's no surprise.

If only she would've hired a real coach instead of her brother she could've made a much better career. Her strokes were flawless and elegant but she was usually all over the place.

Ah, her goodbye letter (http://www.dulkotenis.com/en/n/20121118_happy_end)is so touching, thanking everyone. Made me a little teary.

Even if perhaps she might have done better with a different coach, she obviously wanted her family around her always. Perhaps she wants to start a family of her own with her still newish husband.

I actually thought she was older than 27. She has been around forever. Best wishes to her in her retirement.

She's always been one of the most charming players on tour and will be missed.

One line from her farewell letter struck me. "Thanks to all of my fans for all their love, and thank you also those who criticized me with respect." That's a very classy thing to say.

Not many players can boast a 2-0 winning record in slams against one of the all time greats (albeit a 42 year-old all time great):rocker2:

she's been playing tennis since she was a kid

due to loss of form and/or motivation, her ranking has plummeted. she'd need to battle her way through the challenger circuit to get back on the main tour - or become a doubles specialist. i don't think either appeal to her, especially given that she's recently-married and wnats to start a family.

In the latest Issue of Tenis Mañana Magazine (latin american magazine with emphasis in futures and challenger players as well as wta players from the region) there is an interview in which Gisela tells me about her interests outside tennis and related to tennis but not as a player. She suggested retirement.

http://www.tenismanana.com/flipbook/D5/catalogue.swf

Pages 52-55 (it's in spanish, though). She claimed she is more interested in her family projects.. first thing I thought was she might be pregnant or looking to have a child. She has an academy in Tigre (where she is from) and had a 10K event 2 months ago. Thank you for all Gise

Jose.

Gise , I hope everything of good in your next chapter of life :D And make sure you appear in some tournaments so we can still see you and hopefully one day you will coach one of the young Argentinean players that would be really nice.
