Lets make our own subjective view about the best players who the majority of TF posters actually saw live on TV or on court.

1)Player should have won Slams,(Olympic Gold, WTA Championships)at least one or achieve her best results after 1 January 2000

2)Ranking should be made "considering the entire career of the players and not just the part from 2000 onwards".

My subjective opinion
1)Serena Williams*
2)Justine Henin
3)Venus Williams*
4)Maria Sharapova*
5)Martina Hingis
6)Lindsay Davenport
7)Kim Clijsters
8)Jennifer Capriati
9)Amelie Mauresmo
10)Mary Pierce
11)Svetlana Kuznetsova*
12)Petra Kvitova*
13)Victoria Azarenka*
14)Ana Ivanovic*
15)Elena Dementieva
16)Li Na*
17) Anastasia Myskina
18) Dinara Safina*
19) Francesca Schiavone*
20) Samantha Stosur*

*active players

Later we can calculate all biased opinions and make Final TF rating

the reason why I have Kvitova and Azarneka over 2 time slam champs like Pierce and Svetlana is because they have much more time on their hands to nab that second slam, and outside of that one slam they have already eclipsed Pierce and Svetlana (more YEC/T1 titles, similar number of overall titles, similar peak career high rank, similar number of slam SFs; all this when their career has JUST begun and Sveta and Pierce are done)

12) Ivanovic - Won 1 slam, #1, ranking, two other slam finals
13) Azarenka - Won 1 slam, #1, ranking, one other slam final

14) Li - Won 1 slam, one other slam finals

16) Stosur - Won 1 slam, one other slam finals

17) Safina - #1, three slam finals

19) Myskina** - 1 slam, edges out Kvitova
20) Jankovic - #1, one slam finals, edges out Kvitova

Not quite ....
--
21) Majoli - She's younger than Davenport, so I think she desrves consideration, but only eight tournament wins, only won three tournaments in a year once in her career
22) Kvitova - She'll move up

* I know the criteria, but including Davenport and Capriati while leaving out Hingis is wierd. Also, Hingis was the third most accomplished overall player of the '79-'83 chort.

** Beneficiary of the Biggest Choke of All Time, but she was a top ten player and the first Russian woman to win a slam, so she deserves her props.

Hingis is valid in this poll because of her WTA Championships title in 2000, i added it to original criterias

Pierce won a slam and reached 2 more slam finals in the 2000's.

Also I remembered that A) I forgot Kvitova and B) I'm dumb and forgot that Hingis didn't win a slam post 1999.

probably you are right , but even such young girl as Wozniacki(player of 10s) played with Hingis)). As for Pierce her 2005 was pretty good , much better than any year of some players in top 20

Also I remembered that A) I forgot Kvitova and B) I'm dumb and forgot that Hingis didn't win a slam post 1999.

it's OK with Hingis . She won Championships in 00s, so she is valid in this top 20

I'm OK with Dementieva №5 (she was competitive with Serena)
but what are the reasons to include Vaidisova, Chakvetadze, Pavluchenkova, Kleybanova, Stephens and OMG Madison Keys?

talent? potential? do they really have more of it than some unknown Clijsters and Davenport to name but a few

True fully I couldn't think of no other names after like number 15. I wasn't Huge fan of Clijsters or Davenport, Don't get me wrong I enjoy watching them play but wasn't their biggest Fan. Vaidisova too me had the Talent & Potential too win Slams, while Stephen & Madison Keys I see Potential in them, Pavluchenkova & Kleybanova both have Talent too test some top player IMO.

I don't get it. Are we including their results prior to 2000 as long as they had a big result post-2000?

It makes a big diffrence for Hingis.

Is it only her post-2000 results that count?

it makes no sense to count the results from the 90s to 00-10s list.

So why do most posters (including the thread creator) have her above Capriati/Clijsters/Davenport?

They must be counting pre-2000 results since Hingis won zero slams after that.

Rules anyone?

sweetadri06
Nov 14th, 2012, 12:04 PM
It you are really counting results after 2000, than Hingis is behind davenport and Capriati. She won zero slams and routinely got beaten by Capriati in AO finals. Plus she was not a factor beyond 2002 except for a brief return in 2006-07.

simple question Was Hingis in 2000s treated as no-Slam-winner? No, she was treated as 5 Slams winner and one of the most talented players bith by the crowd and by other players

So pls don't split players careers in 2 parts. And not only career achievements in this thread are defining the place in top 20 , talent should be also taken into account... Hingis didn't become less talented after 2000

I treat it as sort of, best players born after 1975.

why does winning a slam makes you be allowed to count all the other slams you won, while reaching a slam final cuts you out? it's totally arbitrary. we're choosing a date - 01.01.2000, which is a very precise field to cover, no need to count other results imho

you spend too much time for discussing about "what is really not that much important" The
Majority agreed to include Hingis and Pierce, because majority saw these girls playing a lot in 2000s , end of story .
