Chani got married this weekend. Congrats, so happy for her! She really seems to be enjoying life and her career at the moment. She'll start the pre-season playing Hopman Cup with Kevin Anderson. All the best to you and your husband and gl for the new season! Here's an article from the WTA page:

Congrats

But how come Scheepers and Anderson want to represent RSA at Hopman Cup but not Olympics and Fed Cup?

She's a player you can tell hard work and determination has gotten her to where she is now. Happy for her, and Hopman Cup should be a wonderful experience to play some very talented players.

Fed Cup and Davis Cup is quite a complicated endeavour for not-so-top players. They could earn some really valuable points in the FC/DC week, but suddenly they are thrown away to some really strange places totally off their roadmap, and sometimes, say, they are made to play on clay in the middle of the hard court season etc. etc. If you earn 400k dollars a year, and you want to pay coaches, flights, taxes, physios and whatever, you suddenly start thinking about having that extra week for a tournnament to play or extra week for some rest. I kind of understand players who skip DC/FC unless their tennis associations pay them really nice scholarships.

Hopman Cup is a totally different thing, because it's a nice buildup to AO and gives you certainty that you'll play at least a couple of matches instead of bombing out in round 1.
