View Full Version : Who do you want to win the big titles in 2013?

Chrissie-fan
Nov 10th, 2012, 10:03 AM
Just for fun. Keep in mind that this is NOT meant to be a list of predictions but rather a list of what you would like to see happen, even if it's totally unrealistic.

AND to make it a bit more interesting and less predictable, please include the names of AT LEAST FOUR DIFFERENT PLAYERS. Everyone already knows that we would want our number one faves to win everything. It's more fun if we're required to look beyond that and find out which other players we'd choose for some glorious moments and exactly which titles we'll choose for our fave when we have to be selective. Included are the four premier mandatory events, the four majors, the YEC and the Fed Cup which is the most prestigious team event.

I know that many won't uphold the above 'rule', but I hope that at least some of you will.

AUSTRALIAN OPEN: Sam Stosur (to break the spell on the home soil and to give a much-needed boost to Aussie tennis - the home crowd would go crazy - could you imagine the TV ratings for the women's final ?)

Indian Wells: Venus Williams (she deserves another big title for coming back!)

Miami: Serena Williams (would make the home crowd happy and to make up for the 2012 upset)

Madrid: Laura Robson (WTA needs at least one strong British player :rocker2:)

FRENCH OPEN: Dominika CibulkovŠ (she has already reached SF and QF in the past plus she could be the first Slovak player to win a slam and it would be cool if such a short player won a slam!)

WIMBLEDON: Petra KvitovŠ (to cement her place as an excellent grass courter and to continue the awesome results of Czech or Czech-born players at the world's most prestigious tournament :drive:)

US OPEN: Serena Williams (such a great player deserves at least one slam per year ;))

Beijing: Li Na (it would be great if she won in front of her home crowd, BTW could you imagine the increase in her endorsement deals ?)

YEC: Maria Sharapova (it's been a while since she won it )

^ Are you serious about Venus even playing IW?

As for me:
Australian Open: Serena Williams (it's her year in Australia, lus she will be super motivated after what happened last year)
Indian Wells: Agnieszka Radwanska (because she always loves playing there and I love this tournament as well)
Miami: Maria Sharapova (it's her time finally!)
Madrid: noone wants to play this shitty tournament so I'm going with some random winner like Azarenka
Roland Garros: I think it's the most unpredictable one, it might be either Serena who will be even more motivated than in Australia, but it can be also some excellent 'natural' clay-courter like Jankovic, Stosur or Ivanovic.
Wimbledon: Agnieszka Radwanska, just because I so want her to win this one. Kvitova and Serena are the most challenging for her.
US Open: Sharapova, she deserves to win here again.
YEC: Tough to say now who is gonna play there, but if Serena stays healthy and plays all year she is a huge favorite now already.
Federation Cup: Czech Republic.

Great thread. Pardon the detailedness. Also, if your fave is mentioned as being beaten by the champ, it merely means she has my respect as a great champ, not that I like seeing her lose.

In my greedy version, Pova wins all 4 slams, Miami andd YEC with Petra winning IW, Goerges winning Madrid and Hantuchova winning Beijing/Tokyo double.

Less greedy:
AO - Serena
IW - Dani
Miami - Pova beating Venus, Azarenka, Petra and Serena en route
Madrid - Goerges without dropping a set
RG - Pova beating Sveta, Ana, and Na en route
W - Venus's last hurrah beating Pova, Serena, Petra and future Wimbly champs Petrova (2014) and Grassonkova (2015)
USO - Petra beating from third round onwards: Sveta, Venus, Serena, Pova and Vika
Beijing: Jankovic beating Serena, Venus, Ana, Na, Vika and Pova for the lulz and because after Pova's Miami, life won't be complete without worrying about her having a PM where she struggles to win finals
YEC - Bartoli as an alternate for Serena, who will be borerd after having double bagelled her first opponent (Please don't let it be Maria) and thus will withdraw since she has nothing to prove in the tourney. Feel like post-USO season needs some chaos
Fed Cup - India(?). If it has to be someone in the tourney, Russia with Pova winning both singles points and partnering with Vesnina for deciding doubles

Australian Open: Ivanovic d. Wozniacki. Inspired by her success in fed cup 2012, Ivanovic remembers how much she is gifted and beats a renewed Wozniacki in a thrilling three setters. A good beginning for a great year for both.

Indian Wells: Kirilenko. It's about time she wins something of importance and IW looks like a good start.

Miami: Wozniacki

Madrid: Azarenka. I'm not her biggest fan but the Tour needs her. I'll keep the Slams for my real faves

French Open: Goerges d. Lisicki. The Dark Side of the Force in Germany beats the Light Side. Goerges is clearly a ballbasher but she has a lot of potential. A new slam winner would be great and I think that she's good enough on clay to win the French. Lisicki would win Wimbledon in 2014 :bounce:

Wimbledon: Sharapova d. Serena. That's how it all begun. Let's do it again :yippee:

US Open: Wozniacki d. Sharapova  One of the best defensive player on tour against one of the best power player for an epic match.

Beijing: Wozniacki

YEC: Sharapova :hearts:

Federation Cup: Russia. My team: Sharapova, Zvonareva, Kirilenko and Vesnina.

The players qualified for the YEC:

1- Sharapova, Maria
2- Wozniacki, Caroline
3- Azarenka, Victoria
4- Ivanovic, Ana
5- Goerges, Julia
6- Williams, Serena
7- Radwanska, Agnieszka
8- Zvonareva, Vera
