ummm, to dramatic

(just thought we needed something like this if some of us don't want to venture out into the main forum, by the way, do we already have a thread like this? Sorry if we do)

iPhone jailbreaking (and all cell phone unlocking) made legal

Owners of iPhones and other smartphones are one step closer towards taking complete control of their gadgets, thanks to a new government ruling Monday on the practice of "jailbreaking."

This weekend has seen a flurry of activity about digital rights, but the biggest news dropped Monday morning, when the FCC announced that it had made the controversial practice of “jailbreaking” your iPhone — or any other cell phone — legal.

Jailbreaking — the practice of unlocking a phone (and particularly an iPhone) so it can be used on another network and/or run other applications than those approved by Apple — has technically been illegal for years. Most jailbroken phones are used on the U.S. T-Mobile network or on overseas carriers, or are used to run applications that Apple refuses to sell, such as Safari ad-blocking apps, alternate keyboard layouts, or programs that change the interface to the iPhone's SMS system and the way its icons are laid out.

While technically illegal, no one has been sued or prosecuted for the practice. (Apple does seriously frown on the practice, and jailbreaking your phone will still void your warranty.) It’s estimated that more than a million iPhone owners have jailbroken their handsets.

Apple fought hard against the legalization, arguing that jailbreaking was a form of copyright violation. The FCC disagreed, saying that jailbreaking merely enhanced the inter-operability of the phone, and was thus legitimate under fair-use rules.

The upshot is that now anyone can jailbreak or otherwise unlock any cell phone without fear of legal penalties, whether you want to install unsupported applications or switch to another cellular carrier. Cell phone companies are of course still free to make it difficult for you to do this — and your warranty will probably still be voided if you do — but at least you won’t be fined or imprisoned if you jailbreak a handset.

Yeah too much of the Medicine early years are just studying. Sure there is a lot of knowledge required but it should be integrated better. In the Uk you aren't on a placement until your 3rd or 4th year at most Unis.

Not for Graduate Entry Medicine, which you can apply for regardless of what your Bachelors is in, most of the time. The course is 4/5 years long and I think you start your clinical training 18 months in the course for 30 months. That's how it works in the University of Nottingham anyway. I think other universities follow a similar approach. The entry requirements are different for the undergraduate route though.

Also for universities in England/Wales, applicants must have had some sort of experience, mostly voluntary, in a hospital setting. Scotland doesn't require this I think.

I didn't know many people here were interested in Medicine. Good luck to all. I have been seriously considering applying for the graduate entry in few year's time but I'm plagued by doubt. :o

It's not so hard to understand. Some don't like ball bashing, and those that don't have nowhere else to go but her. There's Wozniacki, but she doesn't give them the variety that most of them prefer. I don't mind Aga myself. She provides a nice contrast with the other top players and it would be boring (at least to me) if everyone played the same way.

Petra was a bit under the weather, but she still played a pretty decent match. But Ana served very well (), returned like a goddess and actually outhit Kvitova for most of the match. AND most important of all, wouldn't it be Ana-like to play some great tennis but still fuck up in the end? Didn't happen this time. She should watch the video of this match everyday during the off-season to remind herself how good she can be.

Stockholm was AMAZING.
Sorry for the late reply, just woken from jetlag. The city's really architectural, where we stayed it was in the city centre so there were many designer stores etc. but the further out we discovered an old town which had tiny stores which made handcrafted items. I bought my mum something similar to this:

http://www.ingebretsens.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/265x/e5c3f25dbe2a3021345b55270d5894a1/3/9/39584.jpg

shopping-wise it wasn't cheaper than the UK, I don't think I found anything more affordable tbh because it's quite a young, stylish city. I visited a shop called Weekend because we don't have it in the UK, it's really cool you guys should check it out online if they have a website. Anyway like I said I'll upload some scenic photography later this week :cheer:

oh and James I know exactly what you mean, I'm so behind with uni work (3rd year) but trying to catch up day by day. Trip-wise it was only part fashion related, but I also went for the culture and city life

travelling is such a good dream to have. Experiencing different cultures and food, the unknown, adventure and especially the sense of freedom would be so amazeeeeee ahhh.

I plan on backpacking europe / north america after I graduate uni, and visit some places in south america and africa on holidays. I already have an extensive list of places to visit, things to see, things to do that I've slowly compiled over time CAN'T WAIT.

The only issue is money really, but backpacking should make things sooo much cheaper. Would be nice to have someone to do all this with too maybe :cheer:

I've just got back from my tennis club. I played two hours. First hour: just a bit of training; second hour: a match with a guy I'd never played with.

I broke the strings of my Yonex at the end of the first hour, so I had to play the match with a random racquet. I lost 60 62. I couldn't put a single ball into the court in the first set and the second set was still a mess. He could only slice the ball with his BH and loop it high with his FH. My ballbashing was at its worst. I'll probably never use Babolat again. I even injured my foot during the last game. I feel so tired and depressed right now!

Yes that's what I was reading at first someone said that it's good maria's going on vacation in Indonesia because yoga will help her win tournaments then someone answered that quote: "Yoga WILL NOT help Maria to win tournaments only her continued trust, faith, and belief in the LORD God will.":hysteric:.Then someone else posted that she shouldn't visit Buddhist temples and shrines because demonic and malevolent spirit beings are there to deceive many people and to distract them away from the TRUTH and that Borobudur and other pagan Buddhist Temples might look like "heaven on earth" or give you a "little taste of paradise on earth", but the end result will be this HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY for all of its adherents; and for all who go down that dark road. :bolt:
And after all this they started commenting on maria's cross and how she shouldn't wear it on photo-shoots because she is trying to look seductive and appealing :weirdo: My coclusion is: I"M NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN...EVER!!!:scared:

Yeah I was looking at rough prices, about 6K would be going on accommodation a year. But at least if you go to London you're entitles to the 7K loan and I would have a couple of grants on top of that. I'm sure I could manage it.

What's it really like to live there? Amazing experience or shithole? I went for coffee with a guy at the weekend who lived in London for a year and a half. He said it was a valuable lesson for life but he just always felt lonely. Too many false friends, although that was more likely got to do with him having no family or anything there. He's Polish.

no I know exactly what he means about being 'lonely' as per say. ironically being surrounded by SO MANY people is really lonely at times, especially because my university isn't on a campus, instead it's spread all across london so i've never really experienced the true uni life that my brother is living now in newcastle. i stayed in halls my first year and then lived with two people off my course and now live with noone from my course  but i think it's a good thing to progress as a person, especially concerning friends. but my course is strange, everyones lovely but everyones formed their niche little cliches and im truly only friends with about 3 people in my class. ofc i have many other friends dotted around uni and some who are working in the industry.

dependant on what course you want to do i think it will shape your lifestyle at university. if you're doing something techy/academic at a main uni then you'll have lots of hall mates and hang around a lot. but if like me, your doing a fashion based/art course then it's quite competitive and really the only true friends you'll have will be just a handful.

Yeah I think the temptation in such a big city would be to make 'friends' with everyone but never have any true friends. Although I can't personally see that happening with me, I only have around 5 proper friends. I'm not one to become BFFs with everyone although I'll always be civil, you really have to do something on me for me to dislike you or behave hostile towards you. IDK I think most people really only have about 5 true friends when they are older, and I mean friends that they could trust their life with.
Sure I get along with everyone in school and all but I realise there's only about 2 of them I'll keep in contact with once I leave.
Somehow I can imagine the art students would be bitchy. Even with English Lit. I know the amount of ego people place on their work.
Although I'd say a lot of the Med ones are very cliquey and snobbish too.

I think they seemed particularly wary of mental health problems mainly because the role itself is in the mental health sector and due to the nature of people who access their services, they felt I wouldn't be able to handle it and would be triggered. So they told me not to apply for my own good. Whatever. I'm over it. I won't be surprised if this becomes a regular occurrence in the future though.

Totally agree. My university's campuses are scattered across the borough and along with the "modern" style buildings, it feels less like a proper university, if it makes sense. If I can't get into medicine, I would love to do my postgrad in a campus university.

Has there ever been a republican president or candidate that didn't want to start a war somewhere and put the country even more in debt by doing so? Even so, I doubt that even the biggest fruitcake in American politics would consider nuking Iran. But he might have said it to get the vote of the trigger happy part of America, and perhaps it even worked since the only demographic where Romney got the most votes from was from "the angry white men." That's what they said on the news on Belgian television anyway.

BTW - just watched a speech from Michelle Obama at the Democratic convention on youtube. What a classy lady! Barak is brilliant at this sort of thing, but Michelle ain't exactly second best when it comes to this stuff.

I don't get people who say all politicians are the same.
None is good enough, all have several flaws, with that I agree. But there are many and important differences.
Obama is very far from being an ideal leader but I believe that the fact neither of the two candidates is good enough doesn't mean one can't be a lot worse (see Romney).
Yay for Obama's win.

Well, as an American you're probably better informed than me. I don't really follow politics that much anymore. There was a time when I regularly watched political programmes and debates on the telly, but those days are long gone. But anyway - let's just hope that he's smarter and more of a humanitarian than that.

Well, the problem with politicians is that they always promise more than they can deliver. And they know this beforehand because in a democracy you inevitably need to compromise. Therefore I think it would be better that a politician would just say that he or she will defend this or that side of any given issue. You can promise that with integrity, but you can't promise that you will be able to realize it because much of it depends on whether you can find enough partners from the other party to push it through.

So I think that (in this case) Obama really is trying hard to deliver, but he can't - and nobody will ever, be able to deliver a 100% because on the other side of the isle there are people who probably want the exact opposite of what he wants. So either nothing happens or you come out somewhere in the middle. And if nothing happens, nothing happens, and if you come out somewhere in the middle you realize at least something, but it's still a watered down version of your original idea.

Thanks chrissie-fan. That's what I mean when I say they're the same. They rarely ever do what they say to do and unless the politician is a crazy extremist or something then the changes they make aren't actually anything major. So because no major changes are made one way or the other it doesn't really matter which side get's in these days.
I think the situation is a little different in America but I would safely say that in the UK, yes each and every major party is the same. In fact many parties do the opposite of what they said once they get power over here.

Francois Hallande looks like is implementing his main promises.... But definitely the likes of US or Russian presidents are forgetting about their promises even before inauguration

Well, Obama was able to deliver on some of the promises he made. He promised to get the troops home from Iraq and he did. He got Osama. He said he would provide healthcare and he did. Especially that last thing is an achievement of historical proportions because many before him including Clinton tried, but no cigar (except for the one that Monica Lewinsky got to enjoy). So he did do pretty good, especially considering that he had to work with a rebublican congress.

as for Osama , i'm sure CIA was aware about his location every single day after 11th of September... But he was terminated when he became useless as a threat , Without such a "doctor evel" it's hard for President to get Senate approval (or approval in the US society) for financing these operations in Afganistan .... When CIA/Pentagon goals were achieved in Afghanistan it was time for Obama to recall his promise ...

I'm indifferent about Cronin, although most Caro fans don't like him. Bodo would if he was a TF member troll every Sharapova, Wozniacki and Clijsters thread at GM. He sometimes writes a pretty decent article, but his hate or dislike for certain players is too strong to give him much credibility and to consider him an unbiased writer.

That's the result of her doing so well. Whenever a player does great the fans of her main rivals automatically vote for her as least favorite. Only exception is Caro. No matter how she does, everybody hates her anyway.

Well I never really was a big Caro fan until start of 2012. Great time to join the band wagon right  but my fandom has grown stronger and stronger this year. I think having not liked her as much before, and now seeing how she's still trying her hardest, and staying 100% committed to how she plays tennis despite all the media and hate she's reviewed really makes me feel more on her side.

I just hope there isn't mammoth fuckery in the UK with the broadcasters. TBH I wouldn't mind subscribing to Tennistv, my internet connection is very good and at least you have all televised courts (I think anyway), although I'm wondering about if they have all the rights for all the matches in EU. Not like the way they have to share the matches with a couple of channels in US.

The whole situation is a mess.

I think Fed vs Djokovic always makes for a great match, but as a Fed fan the final that I want of any tournament he participates in is Fed vs someone else. I think the most likely final we'll get is Djokovic vs Murray though. But you never know. These guys are all capable of going all the way.

Andy.
Nov 11th, 2012, 08:34 AM
So there is this guy that has entered my core group of friends. He claims to be 'Straight' but there are a lot of things that have made the group think otherwise (Likes really poppy music, mainly girls as friends, doesnt drink beer, likes girly drinks, gets on super well with me and gives me major attention when we are together, always buying me drinks...the list goes on)

Well every time we caught up more and more suggestive stuff kept happening

1) buying drinks
2) lying in bed with me after big nights for big chats
3) putting me to bed etc.

We have a great connection and can chat for hours blah blah blah

Well at a wedding a few weeks ago we were getting really close and dancing together heaps...he asked to to go back to his room after the party (we were all staying at the hunter valley) before meeting everyone at the bar for the after party...that didnt happen because there was massive drama with the groom getting sick and needing an ambulance.....We had chatted after that and he admitted to me that he has feeling for me but its a massive deal for him to be feeling these thing and needed time to work things out and try and come to term with things.

Well this weekend He and I as well as two couples that are our friends went to Mudgee for a wine weekend. We all stayed at one of our friends parents place. Well we all went wine tasting yesterday and went out after a big BBQ party and when we got home (we were staying in the same room) we hooked up :oh:
