Turn your porch light off and they're not supposed to knock ;) That's the universal sign for "I Hate Halloween". If I didn't have kids, I would hate it, too, but I've been forced into it for years now.

I do like candy, though.

That doesn't stop them here

It's supposed to chuck it down all evening though, hopefully that'll put them off.

Right on cue, it started raining :oh:

The weather isn't good here, either. About 40 F (5 C) and drizzle. I don't think we'll have a big turnout tonight. This is probably my youngest's last year trick or treating; at least that's what he says

I'm missing Halloween at home for the 5th year in a row. No costumes, no drunken antics, no scary movies on tv, no bonfires, no fireworks and, most importantly, NO SWEETS!! Well, I can buy sweets and watch scary movies but it won't be the same.

Halloween in Korea wasn't so bad but I'm only here in Istanbul for 3 months. I haven't seen any places that sell face-paint / make up. Maybe I should've ordered something online.

Hope I'm in Ireland next October!

Does anyone have any movie recommendations?

The office theme is the '70s.

I'm going as Grandpa Jones from Hee-Haw. The mustache limits my options, sometimes.

I had to google him. He looks absolutely horrifying! Very scary!

I'm actually supposed to be going to a 20s/vintage themed birthday party on Saturday. I wasn't really looking forward to that theme. The scope was widened to include everything up to the 50s and some people even insisted that everything up to the 80s be allowed! The 80s so vintage!!

It seems like a lot of people in Ireland went out last weekend (I suppose because of the bank holiday) but I'm sure Friday night will be a big night. My sister said that clubs weren't that busy on Sunday night so I'm guessing Friday might be the biggest night. That's when I would've celebrated Halloween if I was in Ireland!

What are you dressing up as V-MAC?

I was out Saturday at a birthday/halloween party. Was fancy dress and we've a class party on Friday too, my national school education however makes me feel odd about doing Halloween on All Saints Day

Yeah, it is definitely best to celebrate on the day, if possible! As long as you're not missing out completely though :)

What about make-up. I bet you can find some tutorials on youtube or some blog that shows you how to use your make-up to look like a zombie, ghost or something ghoulish! Then all you have to do is back-comb your hair and make your clothes look a bit messy!

A zombie takes a bit of work so you could even opt for something a little simpler like a ghost or some kind of ghoul.

You did  ;)

I dressed up as a zombie last year and the year before and I LOOOOOOVVVEEE being a zombie.

I'm kind of against cutesy outfits or novelty outfits. Halloween is about HORROR!

I'm supposed to be studying but I just looked up some fx make-up tutorials on youtube and if I can find the right household supplies tomorrow I might try some out. I trawled the internet for about an hour but couldn't really find the right kind of arts & crafts or costume shop in my part of Istanbul.

*sigh* I miss being a zombie...

I agree, I just never have the time nor energy to actually come up with something good. Thankfully I've managed to recycle one prisoner outfit for 2 years now since I've not been at the same parties with the same people
Also can we also note while Ireland gave you St Patrick's Day for boozing we also invented this (along with other Celts but whatever:angel:)

kwilliams
Oct 31st, 2013, 04:09 PM
^ Hey, I believe other Celtic versions were actually a little different to what we have today and the others Celts didn't keep it alive, we did! I actually found out that even jack-o-lanterns are an Irish thing. I thought that was one thing that had definitely been created in the States. Apparently Irish people used to use turnips though so the pumpkin part is American and it's hard to imagine a jack-o-lantern not being a pumpkin!
