Tennis Pentathlon #20 -- China Open

This is a game where you pick during a whole tournament and cannot be out after having a bad day.

Despite the name the game is very simple. Game manager puts OOP every day.You only have to follow a few steps.

Step 1. – Pick winners and set rates for all matches (exactly the same as in TT).
Step 2. – Move up and down the matches int he OOP. Most possible good picks should be top, risky ones should be down.
Step 3. (Optional) – Read the scoring rules for WAR subevent. That subevent might need a bit of strategy (you can have a separate set of picks for WAR subevent)

TC (for historical reasons)
Scoring is easy. You got three points if you pick the winner and the correct set ratio. You got two points if you pick the winner and incorrect set ratio.

You had 4 incorrect picks , no points.

6*3 + 6*2 = 30





WAR (Worth A Risky Pick?)
It is easier to go through on scoring through an example:

(OOP) Goerges vs Radwanska

Let’s say 8 picked Radwanska and 3 picked Goerges. If Gorges wins the three players who picked her get 8 points (each). If Radwanska wins the players who picked her get 3 points (each).

You should vary the order of the matches in order to have the most possible winners earlier in the sequence. If first row of your pick is a winner (but the second is not) you got 11*11 point. If the first two rows of your pick are winners (but the third is not) you got 12*12 points. If the first three rows of your picks are winners (but the fourth is not) you got 13*13 points. Etc…

The game has 3 very traditional teams with very stable line-up from the beginning. We used to have Team China as 4th team, but they unfortunatelly disappeared. Team Barbarians (coming from rugby) are the rest of the field. But feel free to organize a new team :D

The game has 3 very traditional teams with very stable line-up from the beginning. We used to have Team China as 4th team, but they unfortunatelly disappeared. Team Barbarians (coming from rugby) are the rest of the field. But feel free to organize a new team :D

I was thinking maybe we can have players find their own teammates. Kind of like in TT where players can choose which doubles partner they want to have. I think that kind of format had worked well for TT and some players might even be encouraged to invite other TF members (who's not playing the game yet) to join their team. :D

May be we can have an auction for players and teams to attract some new faces ;-)

Maybe in the next event we can have that. The team captains for each team can ask ppl who wants to join their team. It can be first come, first serve basis for players who wants to join a team. If there are ppl who wants to form a new team then their nominated team captain will have to declare their team members (who have committed of course) and say if there's still an opening in their team. Just an idea. ;)

I think I still like the Fed Cup-like team race, but I'm starting to doubt whether I like the percentage calculation. I think SEQ and WAR have too much impact on the final result under this system.

Yes now it is FED CUP like now.

Discarding.: At the end of the tourney the only 3 players left in the team. The other (1 or 2) is discarded by the captain during the tournament.

I prefer the discarding game.
There you fight for your team, but also try to stay in the game individually, which adds another dimension to this game.
