I really do ..... but I just don't see it.

If Vika plays well she can get a set out of it and that would be an improvement on their recent encounters.

I would absolutely love to be proven wrong tomorrow and Vika winning would be huge... but it's just so damn unlikely if Serena plays steady.

Serena in 3. Whatever happens, this has been a great tournament and year for Vika and no scoreline can really ruin that tomorrow :)

Serena in two sets. 6-3, 6-4.

Azarenka tries to hard with her dancing. It comes off so forced. Girl just stop it.

This was the final I picked at the beginning.

Even on HC, Vika would still be relying on a poor Serena. Particularly a poor moving Serena, everything's been flawless from Rena pretty much the whole tournament.

She might get a few games from a poor Williams to begin with considering Serena may be tight given her flop last year and the face Vika will be her first top opponent.

Waiting for the "Serena 'nothing to lose' Williams loses to POY Vika" thread if Vika pulls a win (which is possible).

But I'll go with Serena in 2 competitive sets.

Serena will annihilate Vika the same as Masha did in the 1st set , but will do it in both sets of a 2 set match. Vika has no weapons to beat Serena, if even vs Masha she was turning into pusher

Being a ball striking machine is good when playing vs players with lack of consistence, but it's not a winning tactics vs someone that agressive as Serena now

This is the most NID match-up in the history of histories. Azarenka was lucky she got past Sharapova who handed her the match. I'm scared for Azarenka :scared: Serena will be going for the double bagel tomorrow :help:

This final was the best outcome for tennis. Tennis needs these two to shine.

I'm torn. I'd love Vika to win her 2nd slam but if Serena wins we could be here this time next year talking about her equalling Evert and Navratilova's slam count. Something that has always seemed so far off.

No, just Serena can be extremely focused to annihilate real competitors in Semis/Finals . Serena in Final will enter the court to "murder" the opponent to beat her as painful as possible

I actually want Vika to win in three competitive sets. I do not like the fact that Serena's head-to-head against the top 5 players is so damn lopsided. That's a major weakness for the WTA -- no actual rivalries like there is between the top 3/4 ranked men in the ATP.

Let's be real here. Up till now, all the hitters Azarenka faced doesn't hit the ball hard enough to make her scramble for the ball. When she meets someone who hits it hard (Maria), Maria UE'd her way out of the match. When faced with big hitters whose balls actually land in the court, Azarenka simply isn't fast enough to even catch the balls. Now Serena is going to hit harder than Maria. If Azarenka is making UEs with Maria's return, she is going to make more with Serena's. This will immediately put her in the pushing mode. Azarenka needs to catch Serena on her off days and really just convert to first strike tennis tom, orrow like Kvitova and hope it lands.

Serena, on the other hand, has received balls like this in her 1999-2005 days. She knows how to handle it and she knows that she is no longer fast enough to retrieve such balls at the age of 30(same as Federer). She has made many adjustments to her game and it works against people like Azarenka and Maria.

Honestly, in MD were only 2 players which were able to challenge even peak Serena. On of them was Kim, but she lost to Lora.

Victoria is the 2nd of them. First of all, as #1 she should be able at least force Serena to TB. And the 2nd thing - she's the best from young generation and the most consistent from all of them.

She has good defence and she's able to attack. And she's young.

So, Victoria in 3.

Before their last few matches, especially Madrid and Olympics, there wasn´t much positive to take out for Azarenka. Serena was just playing great, probably the two best tournaments she had all year. Here there are a few things to look forward to in hopes of a competitive final. Serena´s own awareness of history in a Slam final has lead to some sub-par performances against Stosur and Radwanska recently. While Serena has looked fantastic it´s also fair to say that her draw didn´t present any true challenges either. Azarenka is 32-1 on hardcourts this season and the only loss was to "Zoning" Bartoli and even that match Vika started to turn around 3-1 (2nd set) before falling apart physical and mentally after the long winning streak. This is clearly Azarenka´s best surface. If you wanted one player to beat Serena, you´d probably take Kvitova grass, Sharpaova red clay or Azarenka hardcourts.

Nevertheless for this to be a great final, possibly three sets, Vika will really have to take her chances. She should/could have won the 2nd set at the US Open last year and Wimbledon this year, but a few times at 5-4/5-5/5-6 in the tiebreak she came up really short with bad unforced errors and double faults. I also think Kvitova and Azarenka might have missed their best chance at Wimbledon. Yes Serena was serving liked a God, but her return game was also the worst it had been all year, which is especially crucial for Azarenka with her mediocre serve. They could have done better.

Save your breath, she had 3 match points in a row and missed them. She served for it at 5-4 and had another match point but blew it. The score should have been 1 and 3 or 4 at most.

That I will, while you breeze in, breeze out, breeze in, breeze out. You calmed down, then it´s time to....

Any other result than Serena in 2 seems highly unlikely. I know she flopped last year against Stosur, but I can't see it happening this year.

Anyone have a Gif of Azarenka doing the shuffle dance after beating Sharapova last night?

Also, Serena in 2 sets tonight, as much as I'd like Victoria to take it down :(

Honestly, in MD were only 2 players which were able to challenge even peak Serena. On of them was Kim, but she lost to Lora.

Victoria is the 2nd of them. First of all, as #1 she should be able at least force Serena to TB. And the 2nd thing - she's the best from young generation and the most consistent from all of them.

She has good defence and she's able to attack. And she's young.

So, Victoria in 3.

"She's young." How is that going to defend her from a pounding? Maybe Vika should hire a voodoo man to sprinkle the blood of a few juniors along the baseline.

I think the extra day helps Serena. She didnt have that last year.
She'll be ready for this. Serena has an excellent slam final record and is playing better tennis than Vika.

I want to see if Vika can make this competitive. This is a definitive match to end the slam year.
It will tell a lot about how far the tour is behind Serena.

Serena wants to topspin in her groundies til she gets a killshot, and and rely on her serve.

IMHO, Azarenka's best chance, as perverse as it seems, is to get Serena to brawl with her. Go shot-for-shot. In essence, provoke Serena in 'God-mode', and then pray for 'Wild-Thing'.

BTW, these are the two likeliest of the top players in the WTA to lose their minds under pressure. A nasty three-setter with bad calls, hostile crowd, they both blow up into full-on rant mode, point deductions, and then a third set tie-breaker....

Okay, I'm dreaming.

Maybe a third set tie-breaker when Azarenka feels bad the crowd got to see her lose 60 61. And Sarin obliges by playing an exhibition breaker.

Just watched both the SF's. Neither looked 100%, but both got a little better I guess as the matches went on.

Serena seemed a little uncomfortable with Errani defending well, so if Vika defends well, and then attacks when she can, I don't see why she can't get a set.

This match will probably be similar to their Wimbledon* one. And Vika was close to a set then, just in that TB Serena's serve was WAY too good on grass.
