My guess for now:

2012 Player of The Year: Serena/Azarenka/Sharapova (depends who is gonna win US Open)
2012 Most Improved Player: Angelique Kerber (or Sara Errani)
2012 Newcomer of the Year: Laura Robson (or Timea Babos or Sloane Stephens)
2012 Comeback Player of the Year: Venus Williams or Yaroslava Shvedova

POTY: Victoria Azarenka (unless Williams wins US Open AND Vika doesn't win YEC)
Most Improved: Angelique Kerber
Newcomer: Timea Babos (the fact that McHale didn't get it last year shows they don't go on hype and thus won't give it to Laura)
Comeback: Venus Williams
Doubles: Errani/Vinci (or whoever wins YEC)
Sportsmanship: Kim Clijsters
Fan favorite: Kim Clijsters
Humanitarian and player service: no idea…*what have players done :p?

They usually gave it to someone who made a splash in a slam.

They gave it to Kvitova (2010), Oudin (2009), Szavay (2007)

That's why I was surprised they gave it to Begu instead of Pervak (who made Wimbledon 4R) last year.

Player of the year: Serena has the edge as of right now with her Wimbledon title and Gold Medal but this title can still be decided with the US Open and the Year End Championship.

Most Improved: Kerber for sure. She has won the most matches this year and has made career bests at the other slams.

Comeback: Hard to say. Maybe Venus. Maybe Shvedova.

Newcomer might go to Sloane imo and it'll probably be a definite lock if she beats Ivanovic (big if). This being her slam results over the past year (3R, 4R, 3R, 3R with good chance of QF so far) and she made two WTA Semifinals this year. If not Sloane then Timea for winning her first WTA title earlier this year.

2012 Player of The Year: Serena, unless Vika or Maria win the US Open. If someone besides these 3 will be Serena for getting the Olympics also.
2012 Most Improved Player: Angelique Kerber leads, Kirilenko, Lepchenko, Errani or Safarova
2012 Newcomer of the Year: Sloane Stephens, Laura Robson,
2012 Comeback Player of the Year: Serena Williams

What's she done this year? :tape:

Agreed on the rest.

Babos reached the semifinal of Bogota and won her maiden WTA title in Monterrey this year

Begu literally made NO sense :tape:. McFail beat the number one and made some splash at the US Open (beat Bartoli) and Pervak had won a title, made a final, and Wimby fourth round. Begu had two finals . And she hasn't done a thing this year :oh:.

I believe Rena won't win POTY. Her RG R1 exit definitely has tainted her resume for this year.
Masha and Vika are the only players left for that title. Whoever does better in USO and YEC will get it.

Petra had 1R exit at US Open last year and still won the award.

Petra had 1R exit at US Open last year and still won the award.

Because no one stepped up last year. This year Masha and Vika are pretty consistent (better than what Petra achieved last year), so Rena's chances definitely become slimmer compared to when Petra won. :oh:
Anyways, if Rena manages to win USO and YEC, she'll probably win (but still that RG performance :tape:)

Unless Vika or Serena wins US open, Maria is definitely winning player of the year. The wta is wet from her winning Roland Garros. We all know Maria is the face of wta so they will definitely promote her as much as possible.

2012 Player of The Year: one of the three slam winners/olympic medalists, probably the one who will win USO or if the worst would happen and Kerber wins USO (:scared:), the choice will be between Rena and Mary

2012 Most Improved Player: Angelique Kerber NID

2012 Newcomer of the Year: Laura Robson

2012 Comeback Player of the Year: Venus Williams

2012 Fan Favourite: I don't know, this is such an unpredictable award

If Serena ends the year as Wimbledon, U.S Open, and Olympic Champion nobody will care that she lost 1st round at the French Open. Kvitova went out 1st round of the U.S Open last year and swept all the awards, and she didnt win as many big tournaments as Serena would have.

Player of the Year : Depends on whoever wins the US Open really, each contender has an advantage over the other two players - vika and her HC season dominance and no.1 ranking, maria with her career slam completion and serenka with her olympic gold medal. whoever wins the USO wins this award

Most improved player : my pick is Kerber, her improvement within the span of a year is simply amazing and deserves to be rewarded duly for that

Newcomer of the Year : two horse fight IMO between Robson and Stephens...I know Robson isn't that "new" to be exact but she is age-wise and finally showing promise at the USO

Comeback player of the Year : my first pick is Shvedova but they may give it to Venus too

Fan Favorite : Radwanska :hysteric: meh probably Clijsters/Sharapova

Doubles : Serenka and Vinas

Sportsmanship : Clijsters

I think it's clear to the players and the world that the ranking as nice as it is has the ability to be an non factor based off performance. Which Serena has made that conversation evident throughout her entire career. To have Azarenka be POY based off her obtaining number 1 at the end of the year would be surprising for me. She has has good consistent results and with the systems setup deserves that ranking. But "play" wise she is 0-4 against Serena this year and only has one slam to Serena's 2 which she beat Victoria to win both of them.

Victoria has to win all tournaments in next few weeks - Tokyo, Beijing and YEC to win POY award.

2012 Player of The Year: Serena. 2 slams and Olympic gold. If not her, then Vika.
2012 Most Improved Player: Errani or Kerber. Both have become solid top 10 players this year
2012 Newcomer of the Year: i don't know.
2012 Comeback Player of the Year: Venus or Shvedova. Venus coming back from her illness, and Shvedova coming back after falling outside the top 200 in 2011.

POY : Serena
Most improved : Kerber or Errani. I think Kerber is a better player but Errani has had a lights-out year by her standards - I can't pick between them.
Newcomer : Tough one, again. Robson had a great USO but is struggling for highlights from the rest of this year. Sloane Stephens on the other hand, hasn't really had any big wins but has been stronger at the slams - not to mention much higher ranked. I think she should get it.
Comeback : Venus, pretty self-explanatory really.
Fan fave : Kim

Wasnt Errani ranked higher than Kerber last year (I dont really follow either player hardly any until this year but I remember Errani often being top 30ish and Kerber being a total unknown with a really low ranking until her U.S Open run). I think Kerber will win most improved.

I think there should be an award for Most Unimproved Player.

It would make the tour more interesting.

What is the definition of newcomer?

Let's put it this way: when Begu won the award last year she was at 21 the oldest to win the award since 2000, and the only winner in that period to have been on the pro tour longer than 5 years. Sara Errani is 25, and turned pro in 2002, so it would raise a few eyebrows if she was awarded the newcomer award I think.
