Thank goodness she got through that one. The 4th round is here for the taking for her if she plays well enough

And does that mean she moves back into the top 10 at Caro's expense?

Romina said "fuck off" to her coach? :hysteric:

 She should win this... clearly better player in this match.

With a looney scoreline like that, I'm guessing Marion's antics were legendary.

If Marion had lost that match, incredibly 44% of the Top Half would have consisted of players from outside the Top 50. And Woz would have still been Top 10.

Terrific match, missed the second set but the third set was extremely high quality from both of them, Oprandi was giving Marion absolutely nothing and was hitting plenty of winners herself. Marion stepped it up after Oprandi got to game point to make it 5-3, hit about 5 winners over the next 8 points. Fought extremely hard for it and its great to see that back. Way less double faults than what we've been seeing but shes said she's figured out the new motion to reduce the pain in her shoulder. Very encouraging.

Win obviously meant a huge amount to her after a tough few months, ran straight back over to hug Walter after the handshake. Pretty big support from the crowd too which was nice.

Not really. Only 4 or 5 'allez's in the last 7-8 games when it got tight.

Dammit. Really bummed. Romina was playing beautifully. Great match. Sadly towards the end Romina got a little, just a little, tight and Marion fought extremely well too.

Unfortunate and a result that was against the run of play (Romina actually won more points 86 to 80) but that's how it goes sometimes and credit to Marion for showing some great resilience.

Good fighting from Marion, though it should have been easier against an opponnent who hasn't got a backhand. That said, Oprandi was great at times, shame she has to slice her backhand most times.
Marion always looks like she's about to die on court yet she runs and runs even after the match is over

Only fighting spirit won her the match.... her attacking game was pretty much nowhere to be seen :o

Romina! :help:  :smash: You really could and should have won this match.

The fact that she hit like 50 times more beautiful shots etc. than Bartoli throughout the match is only a small consolation, really. :fiery: :awww: :banghead:

Oprandi was the better player gamewise.
But Bartoli is mentally in another league.
Not only Bartoli is one of the best players in the world in terms of mentl strength, Romina was very nervous in the end. And angry.
She should and could have won this match against a Top 12 player.

2nd set was pure magic from Romina, outstanding shots.
She is so talented, she can play so many different things.
She played a few sensational dropshots.

In the end 2 dropshots were not so good and Bartoli played some aggressive tennis.

Tight and interesting 3rd set from both.

Say what you want about Marion... She is playing pretty poorly for her standards, yet she continues to gut out wins. Same can't be said a lot of good players who are out of form right now  Make R4 now :yeah:

Romina  She played a great match again, but got a bit tight towards the end as she did against Petkovic, but unfortunately couldn't gut this one out  Hope she can stay healthy because she has a beautiful game to watch :yeah:

Saw most of the 3rd set. I knew Oprandi's reputation as a dropshot mistress and thus was actually quite surprised Marion had even taken a set.....but then I saw that Oprandi's groundstrokes were even more scrubbish than I could've anticipated, so even Marion in shit form and with her 2nd-round mental block was not going to find a way to lose this.

Avenge Pavs now please Marion :yeah:

The French supporters at the match (some stayed on from Gasquet's match, which was on the same court) :worship:

And the Swiss fans were trying to rival them but failed, IMO :spit:

what an unfair result
Romina deserved this match more, hope someway this performance gives her some confidence because finally she's FIT (not italian federation :oh:) and her game is on fire so she has all the cards to enter in top50 playing in this way :)
