the DRAMA :hearts:

Sloane has developed her game very well, her forehand has become something quite spectacular, although she almost choked after several MPs waste and faced BP when serving out the match, she knew that she needed to go after her shots and she did with a wonderful FHDTL. :yeah: very impressive, with a lot of support from the crowd, she could easily become the star of American tennis.

Fran  she did fight her heart out with some outbursts displayed which got her a warning by the umpire, according to Chanda Rubin, the call was uncalled for and she thinks the umpire should let the players play and not become involved with the incident. I agree with her.

Anyway, a very nice match, for a fan, I still hope Fran will keep playing and I hope Sloane will go far in the draw.

This is a solid win for Sloane she defeated the 2010 French Open champion and a former top ten player. Nice to see Sloane maintain her composure even though she was cheated out a match point by a stupid lines person! It is just horrendous these bad line calls.

Second set was so much better than the first in terms of quality of play. Nice to see that Sloane kept her cool during Franny's hot and cold periods.

MP was brilliant. :worship: I thought she was gonna choke after wasting MP's at 6-3 5-3 and then getting down 0-30 while trying to serve it out.

Easy R2 vs Amanmuradova or Malek. Looking good to defend her R3 points and maybe get another shot at Ivanovic.

So what's your point? In a tennis match there are two players on opposite sides of the court Sloane did her job and won the match. It isn't Sloane's problem that Schiavone is on the down side of her career.

Sloane is a beautiful girl, lovely smile at the end. Her game is good, a lot of good things about her. Strong forehand, strong serve and great physicality (speed and strength). Definitely a fan after today. She got a bit pedestrian at times in the second set, but when she went for her forehand she was a pleasure to watch! The point to win this match :inlove::inlove::hearts: I want to see her in the 4th Round against Caro. A nice v Serena would be great too, would love to see that!

Fran  Calm down and come back stronger. Or retire if you want, whatever.

My point is sloane is over-hyped in the tennis world. Girl doesn't have a consistent serve and a backhand.

I've been gradually warming up to Sloane for over a year... but this match put me firmly in her corner.

She has a great personality, great smile, and great game.

She is now my Vice-Snickers.

Keep going, Sloane! :bounce:

I think Sloane is actually a better player than Schiavone at this point. She's been around awhile and had some decent results in the last year. This wasn't really an upset.

NID. 2nd set could've been even easier if she'd actually stepped in and dealt with Schiavone's loopy short balls properly, rather than the "power pushing" she was mostly doing (as usual).

I genuinely like Francy* (its not Franny, BTW) but I wish she'd "call it a career" either this year, or after RG 2013 @ the latest. She'll make a fine coach or Eurosport commentator, but I don't think she'll ever be a top (singles) player again. :(

* Take that, you who think I've just followed the tour to hate on the Strange Suissie and Sneaky Sesil, since Ms. Famous for Being Famous stopped playing. :p

Sloane :woohoo: I think when Franny retires she will replace her in my faves list

I feel like Francy is going to call it quits pretty soon. She needs to because I feel like she has lost her drive, but I think the perfect end of Francy's career would be to win another fed cup :hearts:

Love sloane and she did play some great tennis today. The only thing I wish she did a little better is to not have the tendency of being passive in times where it would pay off to be more offensive. She did that against Fran late in the second and nearly lost the set.

That winner on MP was  :hearts:

Quite a victory for Sloane! Only real obstacle left to the QFs is a beatable Anna Ivanovic.

Very nice stuff from Sloane. Had some moments where she lapsed in concentration or got tight, but all in all stayed committed to going for her shots, and that won her the match.

Sloane winning in straights? There were some fun points in this match and some sloppy ones but that's to be expected. Shame 1 of them had to lose. Sloane for sure is a crowd favorite and will continue to be so at the USO.

My point is sloane is over-hyped in the tennis world. Girl doesn't have a consistent serve and a backhand.

Poor thing chokes to some degree in every match she plays as well. She'll still probably reach R4 and beat Ana though .

I loved her interview - the part about not going into a third set to spare her grandmother's poor heart was hilarious and when she was asked "is Sloane Stephens our next superstar", she responded "She is." with a huge smile on her face... It is good for the tour to have cocky youngsters around, livens things up a bit after a few rather humdrum years. The dynamics on tour this year remind me a bit of the late 90s, *sigh* the glory days...

Schiavone should've retired after the Olympics but even that is just stretching it.

No power, no passion...she let Stephens walk all over her.

Stephens is indeed a developing player, but right now, she has more personality to boot rather than her game. It was a great win for Stephens, but on the same side of the coin, an embarrassing loss for a former GS champion :o
