According to the press, today she said that she is not getting married in November to her fiancee, Sasha Vujacic.

She also denied it several months ago when the rumor first surfaced. And several times since then.

if im not mistaken, masha's trying to clear up the rumor (regarding her marriage plan in 2012). she said its all just rumor that snowballed.. so there's no official plan for masha's wedding so far.

The ap wire story in my local paper just presented her checking for pregnancy as straight news. That makes me feel like my constant bashing of our USA political reporting has been on the mark. One thing I did wonder....if her fiancee knew from personal lack of action that she could not have been pregnant by him....(do not know that for sure)....would he have been 100% sure she was joking.

IMHO masha is an old fashioned type girl with strict upbringing , so i think she will wait for marriage before doing anything improper. I dont know about Russian culture or how traditional it is toward marriage though.

and masha dont seem to be a 'party girl' type who slept around. she seem like a strict / boring / square girl since little (based on some interview where she admit her friend accused her for being a boring girl because she want to sleep early)

then again, having a relationship is more than just sex.. way more than that..

So, it's official now.
Maria must be very annoyed to answer all this question about Sasha and upcoming marriage. But as we see it doesn't affect her game, she's very strong person.

If true, that's a shame. I really think Sasha helped in getting her career back on track

Seriously? Are we 100% sure this is true? Because it might just be the media pitching a story and taking words out of context :o If it is true, I can't help but point out the fact that Maria doesn't look very heartbroken... I mean, if it happened three months ago, you gotta wonder-after all, she did win RG (which would be right after the breakup) and Olympic silver... So, either she's really good with keeping stuff to herself and coping with her emotions, or she (which is hard for me to imagine) doesn't even care that much at this point  Or they are simply still together...

Well we knew it... So why the surprise? :p  It's just gonna be a bit problematic in press today.. for Maria.. UGH I hope this didn't throw her off - she wanted to hide it.

IMO it was after RG! Hence the Wimbledon...

Italian commentators also said it during some match yesterday on ES, I don't know if they had some other source or just talking about Gazzetta's article... but I don't see reasons to doubt what they say. :p

If we count exactly three months, it's actually right at the beginning of RG... But, the article said that they were pretty much on a road for the break-up for quite some time now, and she seemed to do fine in that period (Stuttgart, Rome...). Anyway, we all kind of saw it coming (absence of the ring, Masha not really talking about it...), but it still came as a shock to me. Anyway, I won't believe it until I hear it from Maria herself...

But the problem is - Maria wants to hide it, so you won't hear it from her. And she is excellent at hiding her real self... You think always is all great for her in life? Probably not, and she seldom (never) shows that on court or in pressers.

I think if she's asked outright if they've split up, she'd probably answer. Now that I think about it, she's carefully avoided actually saying outright that they're still together when she's been asked about Sasha the last few months...

em, let's see; -in Wimby, Kopcova asked her - we are used to seeing emotions in your box; last year Sasha was with you in the box... Maria laughed (nervously if I may add ) and said, well, now he is preparing for the next season so he couldn't come, maybe next year...
-on E! News before London, she was aksed if Sasha will go to London, she said he cannot because he has started the preparation training...
- in London 2012 - she was aksed about the wedding and about Sasha, where was he - she said - well we know what she said;
- on CBS morning - she avoided answering directly, on the Sugarpova promo - she said now she doesn't time to plan her wedding because she is so busy;
- and in USO she said about the wedding and about Sasha being in Istanbul...

I think so too. I mean, what's the point of hiding it, especially now that Sasha apparently broke the silence. I gotta hand it to her, how she always gives the smart answers, answering the question, but at the same time, not revealing anything that she doesn't want to... The girl's got some skills :worship: I really wonder whether they'll ask her something in today's presser after the match and how she'll react

Edit: @Maja12 None of them actually asked her whether they were still together, all those questions were based on the assumption that everything was still very much in the motion...

She won't be pleased that it's out there now because clearly she was gonna wait until the end of the season to announce, or just let everyone figure it out b his/the ring's continued absence. If it was 3 months ago then, it's clear that it isn't affecting her tennis. I just hope that now it's out in the open, there's still no effect.

I agree. The last thing we need is for this to be a distraction. I think that's one of the reasons Maria didn't say anything before. She wants the focus to be on tennis, not ex-boyfriends.

The news are getting all over the internet now (just checked the google news search). I think it is certain someone is gonna ask the question today.

If this is true, I think Sasha could have at least waited until after the USO unless he was fed up of being asked by the media. Having said that, I think Maria will be ok. She has been ok for 3 months now. She also has the right to tell any interviewer or moderator that she will not answer questions about her personal life from the start.

We all knew this was coming a long time ago. Maria was waiting for the right time. I hope they are still good friends as he seems a decent bloke. He hasn't dished on her or cashed in on their story.

Sasha was in the past always the first to anounce that something special had happened... so I am not surprised Sasha broke the silence... well, and like Maja said... why the surprise... the signs were clear...

And the relation has gone down to the drains before the final decision to quit... and in these months Maria perfomed well on the tennis courts... (Rome, Roland Garros!)

I'm sorry for Sasha, like MSV I think he is a good guy...

Let's see how Maria will deal with this in the press... and on court... I am confident it won't even be a hiccup... Our Lady is in Control..

better to break up engagement if they found out they have incompatibilities / someone caught cheating, than to go ahead with marriage and found out later..

sigh if sasha really caught cheating, that says a lot about his personality.. glad they broke up if that what happens..

After bulldozing NCAA finalist Mallory Burdette 6-1, 6-1 on Friday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the No. 3 seed from Russia confirmed speculation lighting up the Twittersphere that she had broken off her engagement to ex-Los Angeles Lakers forward Sasha Vujacic.

"I was waiting for someone to actually ask me that question, but nobody did directly," the 25-year-old said in response to a news reporter's question.

She added: "I have never really been the person to announce things. I never announced when we were together or never announced that we were engaged. I never have in any of my previous relationships, as well."

Her separation from Vujacic was no secret to other women on tour.

"A lot of players already noticed he didn't show up at any tournaments this year, especially the European tournaments, and you don't see the ring so much on her hand," said fourth-round opponent Nadia Petrova of Russia, who beat Czech Lucie Safarova 6-4, 7-5, also Friday. "It's kind of been obvious."

2006 U.S. Open champion Sharapova said the breakup with Vujacic, playing professionally in Turkey, occurred at the end of spring. She called it a "challenging decision from both of our ends," but it hasn't had much impact on her tennis.
