Australia -
Swimming in general. Magnussen "missile" couldn't fire :tape: But really though, his defeat was kinda pleasing given how big his ego is. // Cate Campbell had a bout of gastro that made her withdraw from 100m free and lose in the semis of the 50 free // Rice/Schippah with their respective injury woes
Triathlon (women's) - Jackson faded, Densham led but was bettered by at the end, and Moffatt :tears:
Rowing - Drew Ginn. For all his smack talk of the Brits he couldn't delivered :o
Athletics - Michael Pitt's long jump
Rowing - Kim Crow. I really wish she won. But alas, two silvers it will be.
Cycling track - Anna Meares. girl deserves some love after her epic comeback from that horror crash, but Pendleton will probably win it all.

It doesn't help that the Aussie media is putting so much pressure on these guys though. Feel really bad for them. Those TV ads aren't helping either. Swisse vitamins (one of the sponsors) "Ain't no stopping me" is really annoying and so far the athletes in that ad have really been subpar.

It's so strange how Spain has been one of the dominant sports nations over the last few years and yet they've been so awful this Olympics.

For the U.S., Zagunis not medaling in fencing was pretty shocking. Wieber missing out on the all-around probably cost the U.S. a medal in women's gymnastics. Phelps getting 4th in one of his races. Overall though the U.S. team is performing pretty much at expectations.

Very interesting but the populations listed are current populations. I wonder if this list takes into account the population at the time of each games.

Her downwind sailing is not good and she gets fucked in light winds, I heard from someone who competed at Irish nationals that she doesn't do well at Irish nationals if the wind isn't heavy.

She's only 20 so 4 years of improving those two aspects of sailing and she could medal in Rio but its unlikely I reckon.

Now that I think about it, NZ could've medaled in track cycling - women's team pursuit. We had world champion individual pursuiter Alison Shanks on the team :tears:.

Could've snuck in a bronze maybe.

That's alright, AUSZEALAND (as some of your papers are now calling it) has helped your status :lol:

I feel sorry for your Swim Team, All mouth, but couldn't deliver on the results. Maybe Rio. Not enough team cohesion either,

I'm not having a dig, but I look up to your Sporting mentality, Kiwis could learn alot from Australia in that regard to competitiveness.

As for New Zealand, We have done well, Defintly think if it wasn't for the stoppage in Dressage in the Team Eventing, Andrew Nicholson would of snuck in with a medal of somesort (for Individual Three Day)

I'm not entirely sure if NZ should adopt Australia's mentality :tape:
See: Mike Diamond/Emily Seebohm/James Magnussen amongst the few.
The supposed Aussie "favourites" (men's hockey) seem to peak early and go on progressively worse as they go deeper into their tournaments.

Yeah, NZ has been really surprising. So happy for Mahe though, I think I shed a tear when he passed the finish line.

I see you guys are up to 2, but wow I did not realize that! Quite shocking to be honest.

It's a pretty big wake up call really. Australia at the 2008 Games had 14 golds, 6 came from swimming. And this time around, the lack of spark in the pool has really showed how dependent Australia is on swimming to score the golds. We kinda sucked in rowing too - last time we won 2 but this year 0, that being said team GB is just too good. And I really doubt Matt Micham can hold on to gold this time around at the diving.

Well, this is only a fail because of the past U.S.'s dominance in the 400, but I was really hoping to see LaShawn Merritt win the 400. Instead, there are no U.S. quarter-milers in the final! Unbelievable. Now they might lose the 400 relay as well.

Also, McKayla needed to get that second vault. Too much hype? I don't know. But she's a damned good vaulter.

Saudi Arabia : Equestrian Team Jumping

They probably had the best horses and were the team to beat in the final but ended up winning the Bronze medal.

Sad for them, if they'd won it would give two fingers to the European equestrian establishment. A two fingers it so sorely needs.

The European equestrian establishment is so stuffy and needs a shake up of some description. The Europeans almost feel they deserve the success over the nouveau riche countries of the Middle East and South America.

Hopefully Sally Pearson!

Sally was great - fully deserved that and very likeable athlete.

Was gutted for Pendleton though as that interference in race 1 was on both sides - Vic only came up as she was trying to avoid Meares elbow shoving her off the track - that should have gone to a decider.
