Hung Up by far. Madonna's swan song, as far as I'm concerned.

BTW, what about Hips Don't Lie? Wasn't it a monster hit that year - or was that in 2006?

I like "Sorry" by Madonna and "Don't Forget About Us" by Mariah more than the songs in the poll :).

Gotta go with Green Day.

We Belong Together :hearts: >>>> Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Hung Up is such an awful song (as is everything by geriatric Madonna).

I went for Mario's forgotten classic. Then Mariah and the first single by the Pussycat Dolls :o

We Belong Together was that song. It was on Urban radio, it was on Pop radio, and it was on AC radio. It was ALL over.

^It's also ridiculously overrated IMO.

Not as overrated as Hung Up. Absolutely horrible song with an almost equally horrible video.

Hung Up? Song of 05??

Stop that playing now. Very forgettable song. I totally forgot about it until reading this thread. The song came and went and no one cared.

Mario had a good song as well.

i wish the OP use the billboard chart, so Since You Been Gone or Hollaback Girl would be in the list. :oh: those two song bigger than La Tortura or Hung Up.

Hung Up had a okayish performance in the US but it was an absolute smash everywhere else. It's only folks that were <<< 10 years old at the time and/or never left their hometown that think otherwise.

Speed of Sound and We Belong Together were great songs too. :yeah:

People advocating for Hollaback Girl need to be shot.

what do the development of ones ears have to do with knowing the song was a hit?

I don't understand why many Americans dislike Madonna so much.
She is respected a lot everywhere and played on the radio all the time but that's not the case in the US it seems.

Msf Look at the crap they put on top of billboard. That answers your question They don't. My mistake. They have everything to do with knowing that "Hung Up" is an awful song. :)

thanks. Your minority view on one of the best selling singles of 2005 and the holder of the #1 spot in over 40 countries really matters to me. :)

Hung Up is one of Madonna's biggest hits, up there with Like a Virgin and Material Girl (not in terms of quality). It wasn't a mega-hit in America but it was everywhere else in the world.

I never heard We Belong Together on the radio - I bought the song myself off itunes as I'd heard it was Mariah's best track since the 1990's. And I've never heard that Greenday song either

James Blunt was unavoidable in the UK at that time, and I do love that song.

People can quote sales (all from reliable "sources" Im sure) until the cows come home, but no way do I consider a song that didn't chart in the UK and didn't crack top 20 in the US a bigger hit than Since You've Been Gone which had big success globally and is still played today all over the world.
