If she took that injury timeout, then proceeded to win 5 of 6 games, I think it may have been a ploy to get her head together. Hey, whatever it takes. I doubt she's seriously injured if she was able to come back like that.

R2 is against Duque Marino (140, CH 94) or Boserup (316, CH 174).

It's against Boserup in R2; she beat DM in 3.

Please win this, Mirjana!

Was hoping she will face Duque Marino for revenge last week.
But hopefully this is better opponent for Miki.

And she's the last remaining seeded player in the bottom half, but it's gonna be hard to get past Mattek Sands, if she wins her 2nd Rd.

Good luck, Miki :bounce:

Woof. I ought to have dental surgery more often. (NOT!)

Completely missed the Lucic drama-ride.

Very lovely win for Mirjana, and I had been a bit worried about it beforehand. Alla is dangerous and had been playing well in other challengers, as noted.

And I presume Mattek-Sands beat Oudin? I saw that coming -- Melanie doesn't like to play her.

Well, interestingly enough (to me, anyhow), I had good chance to closely observe both Boserup and Mattek-Sands year before last in Stanford. Actually sat for the duration of their matches. Boserup was playing none other than Alexandra Stevenson (this was qualifying) and frankly didn't need to do a whole lot to win a tight, sort of ugly match.

Boserup is a very generic, garden-variety journey woman. Nothing really stands out about her. She's sort of "just there." No disrespect intended to Boserup.

Mirjana, however, has lost to her in the past, I believe ... But I think that was when she was going through one of her periods where she really couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

A fit, focused Mirjana will beat Boserup, but she has to be mentally sharp.

Kinda bummed she doesn't get to cream Duque-Marino, but winning the dubs title against her is enough mental retribution, I suspect ... And it's probably best not to face a mental derailment quite so soon.

More interesting will be how she matches up against Mattek-Sands. The impression I got from watching her "live courtside" is pretty much grit. She was a gritty, all-purpose fighter. Kind of like Mary Joe Fernandez-type for those who remember Mary Joe from her playing days. Sands was playing Jamie Hampton, as I recall, and I think she beat her ... But I had watched Mirjana play her matches and thought: "Wow ... These two [Hampton and Sands] don't have a shred of Mirjana's power." But, we shall see.

Mirjana on a good day can beat these girls. I am actually impressed with her win over Alla K.

I sorta thought she was going to stumble, there.

Onward, Lucic. Don't screw up against Boserup.

But Sands is certainly not as talented as Mary Joe was, and a Lucic in control of her serve and her nerve can blast her off the court. Could be another roller-coaster (gee ... Imagine that).

the head to head has them playing only once (this year) and Mirjana winning easily 62 63. I am hoping for a repeat!

They played at Midland indoors right after Boserup had won a 25 K harcourt event. That 25 K was impressive as Boserup blew away some good players. Since then, she hasn't really done anything, losing mostly in the first round of numerous challengers - until the win yesterday. Mirjana should beat her.

She should beat Boserup. And if she does big match against BMS, I would pick Mirjana or Bethanie to win this title.

BMS lost to Madison Keys who is in great form.
It would be equaly hard for Mirjana.

Yay Mirjana!!!
Does anyone know why her points did not change on BoiledEgg's ranking list? She had 626 points before he added the 14 and after (which I would think should be 640?). Is this a mistake? Or does this tournament not count or something? Of course today's win should give her 16 more points or 656 total) making her ranking 102. But maybe there is something I am missing here.

I think Mirjana can beat Keys. Keys is very young and may not have the patience to wait out Mirjana's powerfull but sometimes erratic game. I would think Mattek-Sands would be the tougher opponent for Lucic. We'll see.

Probably because the 14 points she got by reaching R2 is still lower than her 16th best result (taking into account the mandatory events).

Mirjana's match tomorrow is the only one not being played in the stadium

That's dumb that they are not being placed on stadium (well, it's a challenger, so I wouldn't say stadium, more like center court) - Madison Keys is an upcoming American player, and this has the potential of being very competitive, so dumb move tournament organizers. Why would they put a doubles match on center court over this?

The only thing I can think of is they don't want to give anyone too little rest for the match on Sat. so no third match on center court.

Whoah. You are correct. And you know Mirjana realizes this. And she doesn't like it one bit. She's a proud character. I expect she'll come out firing against Keys, with all her power on display.

Could be a wreck ... Could be a win. But she'll be at full power tomorrow.

So far Mirjana has a best16 of 638 pts = #107

And if...

Semifinal b16-658 = #105
Final b16-686 = #100
Winner b16-718 = #93

Obviously everything is based on this week ranking.
Karatancheva, Tsurenko and Puchova are gonna losing enough points to finish behind Lucic, so she'll probably reach at least #104.

Let's see and good luck!

If she loses today she'll be #104 next week.
SF= #102
F= #98
W= #94

Just watched Graf match form 99. One easy volley she missed to lose that second set...
If she didn't who knows where she would be today.
But, again, she's on court, probably figthing.. go miki

i just hope mirjana is not injured... also, i hope she'll won this match too... this is great opp. for mirjana to gain some confidence back and just to squeeze into top 100 again... to be honest, i was scared about her first match against kudryavtseva and it seams to me that training with Prpich is showing results already.... the ultimate test will come at the begining of the year-couple of tournaments at the begining of the year and ofcourse AO where, i hope, she secured MD.... if she still has the hunger she still can make some nice results like Wimbledon this year... i truely hope for better begining of the season than this year....:tape::):wavey:

Ugh, Mirjana lost, 57 16. I thought she would win this. I'm very disappointed--it was a good chance to reach a $75K SF.

Bummer. I thought she had a good shot at winning the whole event.

I wish she wouldn't lose so often to players ranked beneath her, but credit to Keys, who is in good form, clearly.

Mike gave her a bit tougher time than Mattek-Sands.

At least she ends the season ranked higher than she was last year, and at least ends it moving UP instead of down, with lots of matches in and even a little dubs title. Could be a lot worse.

Hope Prpic gets her to that breakthrough at the start of 2013. She's still stalled in the low 100s ... Can't seem to snap out of it.

But credit to her for ending respectably with some gutsy wins.

Mirjana is at #104 this week, up from 108.

She'll have a golden opportunity during the first quarter of next year to re-enter the top 100. She's defending only 40 points (at the AO) until mid-March.

IIRC, she was in a similar situation the past two years--with excellent opportunities to advance in the rankings at the beginning of the season--and she blew it both times. Hopefully next year will be different.
