Kanepi choking SOOOOOOOOOOO much but she made it. Wozniacki and her constant moonballing are a disgrace for tennis. She's completely useless. Back to Denmark.

Finally able to say, Well Done!, to Kaia
Was beginning to feel for her so desperately.

As for Caro: you just can't junior-level-moonball your way through a slam. Sorry. Never been done.

Caroline fought like a champ. Easily one of the greatest fighters on tour. Too bad. Still, she doesn't lose any points, so that's not bad.

The umpire is a fucking idiot, though. He cheated Caroline out of a game in the second with that idiotic call. He must be fucking blind, the idiot. Glad she won that set.

The haters will love this, but even they have to admit the girl is a massive fighter.

Embarrassing, for both in a way.

Kanepi from mps at *5-2 lost something like 14 or 15 points in a row, still got to deuce, when Wozniacki was 40-0, but ended up losing the set anyway. Almost a repeat then in the third.

Horrible, horrible match. :o

:sobbing: Up to 6-1 5-2 Kaia was operating a clinic -- a total demonstration of clean organized tennis, controlled offensive tennis at it's best. Working the high balls on Wozniacki's crappy technique then lining up the killer shots.

That was best-of-five Kanepi won 61 61* 61*

Unbelievable win! I was so sure she will lose it after that unbelievable second set. But she found a way.
A nervous, tight way. But she found one.

At 16 11 30-40
Wozniacki ended a rallie - seeing a ball from Kaia in the out - then the referee said it was in. Wozniacki was arguing for 1 minute and tried to bring up the supervisor!? "Can I get the supervisor?" unbelievable.
I never heard someone called for the supervisor because of one ball in the out/ or not.

Nervous Kanepi is shy, has fear in every shot and tried to wait on an error from her opponent. Her opponent did not make any errors on important points until the end.

Besides the choking, Kanepi has a nice all around game. I liked that she was mixing up the pace, throwing in slices and moon balls with her flat, power shots. She constructed some really nice points during those rallies. Her movement also seems to have improved a lot. If she can get to the QF and face Sharapova, I think it would be a nice competitive match.

As for Woz, her game reminded me once again that she has no business returning back to the top 5. Today was the first time I also found Woz rather annoying on the court w/ her behavior.

The scoreline was way more than that nobody deserve. :o

Kanepi was playing perfectly fine up until 6-1 5-2. Working the points excellently, blasting away Nobodniacki's paceless shots with ease, and Nobodniacki was struggling to deal with the sheer heaviness of the Kanepi ball. And then, she [Kanepi] decided to start pushing and hoping that she'd be handed the match. Dead wrong. Luckily she re-grouped well in the 3rd after that horrendous choke and just implemented the same gameplan which got her the initial big lead.

Hopefully we don't have to suffer through that nobodies pusher, drama queen antics for much longer and her top 10 days are coming to a close.

Kanepi needs a head to close out matches quickly and cut down on the choking. She has an amazing game, not a brainless ball basher, cause she mixed it up for clay specifically to trouble Caro today, which was working until she started to mess up. I am proud though, that even with the second lapse, she pulled it out. Patience served her very well in the end.

Oh Caroline. So much for "Sunshine". Showed her true colors by behaving like a whiny little bitch several times, berating the umpire with some tacky and irrelevant "diss", and spending way too much time arguing calls. She was rude and seems like she has adopted the ironic route of challenging education or intellect just because she's annoyed.

Anyway, frustrating match, no matter who you were rooting for. Embarrassing for both, but the better player (and fighter) won.

Poor Kanepi had to opponents: Wozniacki and herself. She was much better today than Wozniacki but barely managed to win against herself. I'm happy with her win at the end and I think next time similar situation will be easier for her.

For Wozniacki: I like her defensive abilities. But it's sad that she was too successful with this tactic as she is frozen in this style. I think she is not so bad attacker as many people believe...

Dude, OMFG....So fuckin proud of Kaia for finding a way to win after that huge choke in the second...Kaia was by far the better player throughout the match...She only hung around because Kaia choked...I will say it again, Wozniacki is simply disgusting...Arguing like a stupid ass bitch about one ball and calling the supervisor? That is so classless...She has no weapons, moonballed to death and thought she would win after Kaia choked...So glad Kaia found a way to win which is all that matters in these matches...Serena wasn't as fortunate against Razzano, but Kaia deserves it after that choke against Kvitova at Wimbledon...She really proved me wrong after that 2nd set and saving those break points at 1-1 in the 3rd...Kaia is just as much a fighter as La Borz otherwise she wouldn't have finally won...They were both fighting for different things...La Borz's game just doesn't transpire against big hitters...You just can't push and hope your opponent will choke a huge lead and hand you a match? Without the chokes in the 2nd, Kaia played flawless and really exposed the vulnerability and weaknesses of La Borz's game...Her game is jyst never going to win a slam and the more players who expose her in this kind of way, the more players who will start wiping the court with her...I am amazed it took this long for WTA to expose this crap game of Wozniacki's...So glad her and her childish drama-ensuing antics have been marked "Defeated" in this tournament....Kaman Kaia...Great win in the end no matter how long or painful it was...That is what sports is all about...Who has what it takes to finish and Kaia finished today the victor...Great opportunity for a QF here again...As for Wozniacki, good riddance bitch...You are no threat despite what your bandwagon fans have to say...Fighting til the death is irrelevant if you don't wind up the winner...Change your arsenal of nonexistent weapons, learn how to not "push," develop some type of gameplan, and stop relying on errors from your opponent to get you through, otherwise its curtains for you in the Top 30...Thank you Kaia for taking out this irrelevant, childish piece of trash from a slam...Bravah dearie, bravah

2 Winners and only 5 UE in the third set a .... was it a fight? if she realy wanted to fight she should have taken some risk

Kanepi in third set made 18 winners and 12 UE , it was she on whose racket was the match and Caroline did not want to do anything with it ..... She was just praying that Kaia would have sent balls out or in the net .... And it worked for her when Kaia got nervous. But it's not the way matches are won at Slams

Don't misunderstand me. I'm a fan of Kanepi and i just wanted to correct and underline that Kaia can use moonball as a tactical way on clay.

Well, a great evil is never easy to extinguish and Kaia made sure that watching Wozniacki lose would become a cathartic experience once more.

Unlike all the other chokers on tour, Kanepi has the ability to put on one of the worst chokefests of the year, yet I knew that she would at least make it competitive in the 3rd, unlike my other faves Jankovic and Zvonareva who would eat a bagel.

In the meantime, my experience was "enhanced" with reports that my only other fave left in the draw, Gorges, lost the 1st set after blowing a nice lead. It all resulted in eating a 200g Milka and smoking a pack of cigarettes.

What a chokefest from Kanepi : should have closed out the match much earlier in the 2nd set...

At Wozniacki side : Again the same clueless game : she clearly doesn't know what she's doing on a tennis court. No Improvement : she just sinks dipper and dipper into the abyss of mediocrity. Maybe she fought and eventually won the 2nd set but it was more because Kaia choked. Was often far away from the baseline, was dominated, passive : the usual wankfest people have to endure with her... And the way she's behaving since month or even a year, her future is dark ! Time to ditch for good her manipulative father and ditching FuglyRoy because she can't combine Love and her work which is tennis : a sign of a huge lack of maturity. And I say it again, I don't think her priority n°1 is tennis... She's wasting her talents, she's wasting her career ! If she wants to be relevant again : she has to do a 180° ASAP ! Otherwise she'll be on the path of the like Jankovic and Safina to name some. Her lack of commitment and her huge lack of wanting to fix things that aren't working since a year baffles me ! She's in a slump, I know : I can live with that but I can't accept she seems to be happy of not taking her tennis seriously anymore and her 0% desire. Her priorities are off-court. She'll never win a slam with such disastrous mentality.

Kanepi did a good job, initiating the moonball rallies, since Woz would simply moonball it back because she is simply incapable of taking loopy balls on the rise aggressively nor deal with paceless, deep shots. This gave Kaia the opportunity to set up the points with her infinitely better technique and skill.

I was chuckling through a lot of that match, mainly at the inevitability of Kaia's choking. Got to give some credit to Woz for fighting back in it despite that bad line call against her.

But then Caro's tactics are the same old rubbish. She really needs to take a good look at her game now. Even Annabel and Mats on ES were criticising her for moonballing.

You can imagine that when someone is number one and they are happily sitting there then they don't want to change what's working for them. Or they feel it's too much of a risk to do anything drastic. But Caro is no longer in that position so she should feel more free to make a more radical change to game-style/technique. She could have won this match if she could hit through her forehand, among other things.

Jim Courier was talking before about how he can't understand how someone with her physique can't seem to generate more power. Which is not to say that I think she should become a ball-basher. But she could properly turn herself from ultra-defensive into an effective counterpuncher, i.e. someone who can finish a point off when the opportunity is presented.

This is why I've been banging on all year about Kanepi being a nightmare match-up for Woz, especially on clay. She's not a Gajdosova-type brainless ballbasher who goes all-out on EVERY shot and donates a bucketload of UEs, but she has enough consistent weight of shot and the ability to move Woz from side to side over and over that Woz simply doesn't have a chance if Kanepi's nerve is holding - a big "if", admittedly, as we saw. And it's for this reason that Azarenka and Sharapova would've been destroying Woz over and over for the past year if Woz was good enough to get past the scrubs to get through to a match with them.

Same old shit from Woz. Atleast hopefully this match should've killed off her fans' deluded theory that the reason for Wozniacki's slump is that she's been "choking" As we saw today, it's only her continually strong mental toughness that's not made her slump even worse than it is. Shame, I was rooting for her to make the QFs so that (a) she would have more ranking points in the past 12 months than "real #1" Serena, and (b ) so that Maria could play her. Oh well.

What's one thing got to do with the other? Kaia choke yeah, we all know that, she's quite prone to it. However, you know there was another player on the other side? Caro could have easily gone of the match at 6-1 5-1, but she didn't, she fought, she didn't come up with winners but she lowered the UE, made Kanepi play the extra ball and think twice before going for it. Plus all the mental battle in this match was very much up and down for both players, that's what I call fighting you can call whatever you like.

I actually think that what lost the match for Wozniacki was her forehand. Time and time again her Backhand would have good depth but her forehand was landing on the service line.

Her serve was surprisingly decent, her movement and backhand were good as always. Ive said it many times before and I will say it again.... if she does not fix the forehand she will continue to be lackluster.

The rest of her game is more than competitent enough, its just that horrid Forehand stroke. When one of your wings is landing so shallow in the court on a consistent basis it just gives the opponent the opporunity to step in and crack it.

During the 2nd set I constantly kept thinking to myself "Kanepi step in on those forehands!" because they were just screaming to be punished.

PS : I still have little flame burning for her. She's a very nice girl but unfortunately, she doesn't have someone in her staff telling her what's she doing is very wrong. Instead of hanging out all the time with FuglyRoy : what about going on courts and working hard to get your level back ? The saddest part is that Wozniacki´s fans still think she changed something in her gameplan down 2-5 0-30 in the second set, that she is mentally tough or that she just has to go back to even more error free pushing. They just can´t understand that the other players have figured her out.

They don´t overhit low-percentage flat shots anymore, instead they topspin and rally with margin for error till Wozniacki due to her poor technique leaks a very short ball that can be attacked or makes an error. If the first wave of attack isn´t successful the opponents just reset the point with another moonball till Wozniacki leaks another shortball to attack. This pattern repeats itself over and over again. Until Wozniacki learns (if possible with her technique) how to take and attack a topspin/moonball on the rise, she´ll be jerked around the court till she makes her own mistakes or gets punished with a high percentage winner.

Most powerful players in the top 30 are capable of using these tactics, proven by the fact that some of the most erratic brainless bashers like Görges, Safarova, Kanepi and Ivanovic have used them successfully. The day Gajdosova gets it, is the day Wozniacki goes back to challenger level.

These days Wozniacki is even scared to at least aggressively place short balls with a topspin forehand. Instead she moonballs them from the service line. It´s something Mansour Bahrami wouldn´t even do in a comedy match, because it´s so lame.:tape:

Kaia commented before the match:
If I play good and patient with Wozniacki, then it will be a good match. I have played with her many times and I think there will not be any surprises for me in her game

Kaia started so well.

After 61 52 it was a nightmare, luckily with a happy ending:sobbing:

Anyway, she's not in the QF just yet. Rus had to play well to make it this far, and stranger things have happened.

So far I'll just enjoy the moment.

I actually thought Wozniacki played well in the second set from 5-2. She started to be more aggressive with her ground strokes and it was Kanepi who resorted to moonballing, especially off the backhand side. Caro's dropshot in the tiebreak was stunning.

Unfortunately for Caro she went back to taking all the pace of her shots in the third set. She needs to play every match aggressive and not try to take the most comfortable way for her to play in every match. Her forehand got shorter and shorter, whereas in the 2nd she was hitting in harder and deeper. It's a shame to see her lose but she really knows what she needs to do. A player of her size should dominate more.

As for Kanepi, she's an ok player but I can't see her doing much against a big hitter. I've never really thought much of her after her match against Clijsters in Canada two or three years ago. If she makes it past Rus Sharapova will destroy her.

As for Woz : to the lack of game she's adding a disgusting behaviour every now and then. All the arguing of calls just to break the opponent's momentum and/or simply break her rythm is LAME.

I miss the Kanepi of brisbane who thrashed everyone...

so do I. that Kaia would would win RG 2012.

Great that she pulled it off in the end. When she was on and kept her head cool, Woz had no chance, not even close. That missed putaway at *5:2 30:0 and failure to convert the two MPs in the second got into Kaia's head. But that she managed to turn it around after such a choke in the second is admirable. That may help her a great deal going forward. Had she lost that one... it would have been Wimbledon 2010 all over again.

I hope this was not a Phyrric vctory. GL against Rus, Kaia! Bring it on!

Where is the proof of that??

Her father brought her to #1. And maybe she would do worst without "FuglyRoy".

Maybe but since she's in a free fall it seems Piotr is clueless to find out what's wrong with her : When the recipe doesn't work anymore : you have to change so it's time for Caroline to be a woman and ditch Piotr. Where's the proof of that ? Just suspecting it but it may be one of another reason why she's so awful since a year.

I think that Piotr is a genius to have managed to get her to accomplish what she has, with so little talent. Now that the recipe doesn’t work anymore – most players having figured their game out – there is nothing else to do. Different coaches, ditching Piotr/Rory won’t do squat. They have to be content with her past accomplishments, enjoy the millions and watch her go do down in the rankings. She is the biggest overachiever the WTA has ever produced.

Sad, but true.

Gutsy stuff from Woz in the second set, but Kanepi really let her back into it. Nice to see her conquer her demons. Huge opportunity to make another quarterfinal.

Saw only the final set. Kanepi typically pumping heavy topspin deep into Wozniacka's side for as long as it took until she had the opening for a BH DTL or in-out FH to finish off or at least take over the point, or earned a puffball on the middle of the court to whack away with her FH. Wozniacka unable to do a thing with Kanepi's barrage of topspin and flat out pushing most of the time, even from the BH side - no depth on any of her shots.

Wozniacka's hissy fit (even though, after seeing the vid, I think that the ball was indeed out) shows that her decline will be ugly, very ugly.

Woz's Backhand was fine in my opinion. Could she have done better if she had an extra 4-6 inches of depth on that wing? Sure but it was more than enough to keep up with Kanepi. Most of Kanepi's Groundstrokes werent all that powerful honestly but she was able to "crank it up" when she needed to.

The glaring problem was Caroline's Forehand. When your depth is on the service line your bound to be getting hurt from anyone who tactically has a brain and isnt erratic or inconsistent as hell. You just step in, shrink the court, get Woz on the run, and push her further back behind the court.

If that forehand was not so pathetic she would not be able to be pushed back so easily. If she had good depth on both sides it would be a heck of alot harder to step in and "shrink the court" so to speak.

I am really worried by Caro at this rate...she could play well only when she was down in the second with no hope of a comeback...for sure Kaia helped a lot, but in that moment we had a flash back of the world n°1, she started to hit winners even with FH anticipating the moon balls attempt of Kaia, breaking her rythm and also with a drop shot and nice service...then again she disappeared, Kaia would eventually help with a massive choke in the 3rd, but this time Caro didn't step up and the match was lost...people here say things like buy a FH or such, but i think she got more something mental or one can't challenge Maria or Serena or playing awesome when it's about to lose, today she could hit over Kaia's awesome groundstrokes and in that moment her FH, yes not really fast, was a weapon, very solid and deep and often with a good angle....then she just sit back and started to push and the 3rd set was a crime against tennis from both

Quite simple really. Without Kanepi’s chokefest, there would be only 2 times 61 and it would be over. But except for the 1st set, every time she had to close out the match at 51, she’d choke. So Wozniacki won the 2nd set. At 51 the 3rd set, she choked again. Luckily, she finally closed it out at 53 to 63.
