Well done. Kerber's defence-to-offence is fucking amaze :hysteric:

There was a point in the 3rd set where a BIRD flew to the net and the umpired didn't call let

Unbelievable. Kerber is such a fighter. But sheŽll have to hit with more depth against Martic or sheŽll get blown off the court. :help:

A really mediocre showing for Kerber. Her serving and those loopy groundstrokes :help: no bite whatsoever on her forehand. Still good enough to grind out a win against the more aggressive and inconsistent player. I still expect her to beat Martic soundly, I doubt she will struggle with Martic's junk.

Martic doesn't hit big enough to blow anyone off the court. She's a great match up for Angie.

The train just keeps on gathering steam! Wouldn't be surprised to see Angie in another slam semifinal.

this was an obstacle, wasn't it ?

never thought she would serve it out, taking the 3rd easily at the end

Great work-rate by both players, both were pretty dead in the 3rd set. Kerber's 2nd serves looked more like drop shots in the end, and Penetta finally couldn't keep up, went for shots out of position and lost.

Kerber now 14-0 in 3-setters in 2012. :worship::worship:

same old Flavia as usual...she makes the game, she moves around the game and just runs out of gas when she doesn't close...she was the better player out of the two, but surely Angie knew Flavia's lack of matches in 2012 because of injuries would have take the toll, all she needed was just to push the ball back on court and let flavia selfimplode and that was exactly what happened.
I really like Angie so i wish her to go far with that open court, but once again (and twice with Angie) Flavia wastes a great chance for a well deserved place among top names on slams...well i guess we should be happy actually...a 3rd round with no practice before saturday isn't that bad...:awww:

She'll fold like a cheap tent at this stage of the tournament anyway.

Very enjoyable match from both players.

Kerber will have to consider playing more agrresive and not rely too much on her incredible defensive skills if she really wants to go far in this tournament. She has the skills to do it but was playing too far behind the baseline too often today.

Since we found out that Martic is from Croatia, her name has six letters and half of them are also in Majoli.

I always thought she had talent, when I first saw her two years ago in Portoroz. But she has been hiding it pretty well for a while. I have never seen her play as aggressive as here. The question is can she keep it together mentally against a fighter like Kerber.

This match was over once Kerber figured out that FlaviaŽs backhand was trash.

Kerber should have no problem with Martic, though she looks bit spent. Maybe thats just her usual, IŽm not expert.

i for once have to agree  Flavia's BH usually it's her strenght and it was quite ok today, but Angie knew that Flavia's worst surface is clay (despite what people thinks), because on it she needs more and more shots to close and mostly against great defenders she ends up either hitting a winner or with a horrible UE...most of all, Flavia's coming from a season with no matches played under good form (a part from Rome and Auckland and surprise, she was forced to retirement there) and she lacked of the mental edge to close the match, so she did the same thing that Caro did in 2009, let Flavia set the game and let her burn out of physical and mental strenght and that's what happened...

Insane retrieving, huge attitude from Angie. :speakles:

Not an easy start into the tourney. So this was really a test whether she can stand up to the expectations of being a German no1. and top tener the first time at a GS. Now she has to keep this up.

... Flavia's BH usually it's her strenght and it was quite ok today, but Angie knew that Flavia's worst surface is clay...Pardon?

Last time I checked Flavia is an Italian clay ace (with lots of her successes coming on on that turf) in fact clay is the worst surface of Angie, not only based on past years' RG results but also due to Angie herself admitting that when confronted in an interview

Flavia and Angie shares the same style of playing...they are both great counterpunchers, but unlike Angie, who has a good power on her FH side, Flavia really needs the opponents' power or the court's speed to hit winners on a regular base...
on clay she is good when she faces opponents with limited defencive skills as she can get them out of time and using dropshots, but she struggles with the ones with good defence and indeed if you go and check out she is a 3 times QF at the USO and only once got to the 4th at RG and her biggest wins came all on HC ;)

A most impressive victory for Angie against an experienced quality opponent! This match was high quality with maximum effort expended by both players. Two points which Angie struck were absolutely scintillating; one of the them was an outright winner returning a fierce volley at the net by Flavia (fifth game third set). Angie was full measure for her victory.

Between the US Open and here, they have put on two really good matches. Telling sign was that Flavia was gassed at the end of both. And that shouldn't be surprising, they both ran down everything.

i LOVED this match! there was such a great atmosphere on this intimate court, and the match was very intense (but fair). that was pennetta like her in her prime for a set and a bit. but kerber proved why she's been having such a terrific year.

Kerber is my favourite German player and clearly the best of this generation.

But this RG she is playing so far from her best. She played better in Copenhagen and Stuttgart. Her form got worse in the upcoming tournaments and the way she struggled with Govortsova :help: I saw two MarticŽs matches and she is playing amazingly.

Martic is going to beat Kerber. Although Kerber is the better player overall, not at the moment though
