Definitely easier than I thought it would be. There's still a few bolts that need to be screwed on properly but other than that, Sam is playing incredibly well.

Yay Sammy. Was potentially a very difficult match up, but Sammy was solid throughout. I liked that when she hit a few errors in a row she was able to quickly recover and start playing some good tennis again.

So many of my faves are doing well. It's kind of scary.

More than a chance I think. Vika won't gift her as many errors as Nadia did, but she also has nowhere near the power, so I think this Sam should beat Vika. The things that Vika does that bother Sam on HC won't bother her nearly as much on this surface, and Vika won't be able to effortlessly pick off Sam's serve like she usually does either.

It's too hard to say, IMO. They've only ever met on hard court. The match-up issue (and it is a big one at that) will probably be a whole lot different.

Interesting fact - Sam won the USO, beating Nadia in the 3rd round en route. ;)

Yeah, even before RG started, I knew Stosur would be a solid contender. Besides Sveta (if she's on her game), Stosur really does have the best, overall clay court game out of everyone in the draw. I actually think the red clay is a better surface for her than hard court--just complements her kick serve and top spin forehand so much.

There is just something about Stosur i dont like or appreciate and its not like there havent been servebots with huge forehands before, Kathy Jordan comes to mind or Barbara Potter for the folks who know recent tennis history. I just dont want Stosur racking up moer slams when neither of those two got one and they were faaaar more accomplished.

This is how Ive ALWAYS felt about Schiavone since she won her slam. But for me, its easier.. I mean the likelihood Schiavone will be that lucky to win another slam is million times smaller than Sam winning a slam.

Schiavone is okay, but not slam material, they were and are so many players better than her (yes, Dementieva including) who dont have a slam. Zvonareva has beaten Schiavone trillion times but has no slam, faced peak Serena in a Wimbledon final and peak Clijsters in a US Open final, while Schiavone got to the final by retirement and defeated a Stosur who once ran around her backhand to hit a FH return to the stands  thats how good Sam was in that match.

Back to topic- this match. Nadia played badly. There was a series of errors in the beginning of the second set, like three netted FHs and one netted BH from Nadia that gave Sam a safe lead and didnt have to do much afterwards. Sam so needs to step it up. Shes been lucky with the draw so far. But she will lose to Cibulkova ;)

I just watched the match on Tennis Channel VOD. That was a close match for a 68-minute match. It was better than you lot reported above in the thread. :)

If Nadia's serve had been popping, I think she could have taken it. Sammy had her lapses, but she had already had some breaks in store to overcome those lapses. Basically, Nadia's serve wasn't there, and that is the key to her game.

Faaaar more accomplished? How accomplished? You must be kidding yourself when you don't want Sam to wins more slams just because yours favs had none? Why would I be jealous of her? I don't like her game and I think she's overrated and I think she won a slam on her opponent's nerves and umpire's incompetence. Oh my some people are still not over it I see. Sam deserved that USO title. Yeah she has some mental problems especially in Aus  - but she handled the pressure fine at USO especially in those tough matches leading up to the final.

And you're saying Sam won the match on Serena's nerves, so then it would seem Serena didnt handle the pressure that well...

The more you say the more you trying to contradict yourself. As you said you don't like people who can't handle pressure and on the other hand you said her opponent which is Serena was nervous. I wondering where did all that nerves come from? Isn't it pressure? We all human and we all have nerve. Talking about nerve Sam should be more nervous because is less experience than Serena, but she earned the win by playing smart and aggressive tennis and didn't even give Serena any chance to play her game. So get over it.

You answered your own question.

Listen, it's obvious to everybody, except yourself apparently, that your hatred of Sam all comes down to the fact that she beat Serena in that final. But that hatred, and the things you post to justify it, are not supported by any reasonable analysis.

Nobody is asking you to like Sam, and nobody, least of all Sam herself, is claiming she's in the same league as your fave. But your characterization of her as the epitome of all that is despicable in tennis is not shared by anybody serious and knowledgable in the world of tennis, including Serena herself. Serena has long since moved on from that disappointment, as have the majority of her fans. Is it too much to ask for you to do the same? Or at least to keep your bile to yourself?

So Serena has 41WTA titles, 13 grand slams and you think she was nervous, against Sam, who at the time had 4 WTA singles tiles and no grand slam titles, defies logic.
It's history, I'm sure Serena has moved on, 'bout time you did too.

Says the fan of the player who lost a GS final and a GS 1st round due to pressure.

And regarding that one point due to "umpire incompetence." First of all it was a correct call. Secondly, no one who watched that match can seriously say that point had anything to do with Sam winning that match. It really benefited Serena much more than Sam, as the crowd really started making a fuss, and Sam lost her next service game.

As usual, Serena fans have some pretty jacked up recollections of what really happened. This isn't quite as bad as their statements that Serena was disqualified in the '09 QF against Clijsters, as if they can't recognize that getting a point penalty on match point is NOT a disqualification, but still, that anyone could bring up that hindrance call in the the '11 USO final as something that harmed Serena is delusional at best.
