Sveta played like a GOAT. I've always thought she was one of the most talented players on tour, if she could only get her head together. She has a chance to win this thing, again if she keeps playing like that.

I am conflicted.

1/ People will say Agatha is an overrated pusher player who only belongs to top 20. I agree she is not top 5 material, but top 10 yes.

2/ Sveta totes can lose to Errani. :o

3/ She is always here when no one ever expects her, but never here when everyone expects and needs her to win. :o

OTOH

1/ Kuz, when ON, is very nice to watch.

2/ She is a Slam winner, and it's always good to see former Slam winners being back on the track.

3/ Svetlana))) must be ecstactic right now , watching it live

4/ Kuz-Vika would be an amazing match.

Well, that takes the sting out of Ana's loss for me a little bit. Feel like I didn't get up at 5 a.m. for nothing.

So we've got: [1] Azarenka, [2] Sharapova, [4] Kvitova, [6] Stosur, [7] Li, [9] Wozniacki, [10] Kerber.

No Williams sisters, Serbians, Clijsters (who didn't bother to show up).

This...well, that's the French, ain't it?

I am shocked. I didnt think Sveta could play like a slam contender anymore. If she can keep this up, her draw is very good.

Aga shouldnt play Brussels. Caroline won it last year and had her worst loss all 2011 in the FO.
On clay, a full week of play before a major is too risky. Better to take that week off

Amazing from Sveta. Everything was working for her today. I'd love to see her taking the title but I highly doubt she can sustain this level till the end.

As for Agnieszka she played really well at times but overall I think she was a little too passive and obviously shocked by Sveta's level of play. Oh well...onto the grass :)

Whats so bad about that? We might actually get a somewhat interesting match now, Aga would have massacred Ivanovic. We saw how much trouble she was having with Errani getting balls back, that would have been much worse against Radwanska.

Kuznetsova will not even get passed Errani  at least the Italian can consistently keep shots in play for at least more than 4-5 shots without committing all these UE's this troll of an Hagatha for a counter-puncher did today especially in key moements.

BTW British ES, Kuznetsova is now a contender for the title -- last time I heard that was with Ivanovic. :oh:

Vintage Kuznetsova, Sam Smith kept predicting she would choke, but even her mental game was strong today! :worship:

Aga, on the other hand, was way off her best form, she looked pretty powerless out there. The second set was much closer, especially at the start, but once Kuznetsova got a 4-2 lead, Aga was finished. Brilliant for Sveta, the next question is how far she can take advantage of this draw opening up for her.....

Sveta played extremely well. Composed and clean match. Aga never really got into it, she was vastly outplayed from the start and in every department.

Put stupid Sveta together with mentality of South American baseline grinder Hernan Gumy and you get balance. There was one small stretch in the 2nd set, where she almost turned into stupid ballbasher Sveta again, when Radwanska got up 40-15 quickly at 2-3. But unlike past matches against Wozniakci, she stayed composed, didn´t become lazy and rallied points to the finish properly.

Interesting match against Errani. On paper Sveta´s heavy topspin and placement should just kill Errani, but I´m still not convinced with her stamina. If it turns into a long match Errani has a shot.

Not a shock. Ever since Radwanska beat Sharapova at the open as an underdog, she struggles early in slams. She is the type that needs the wild card or qualifier to start her run. Once she drew Venus, she was dead because she has to peak way too early. Loss to Kerber last year because she peaked for her sister first round. Also a loss to Kirilenko.

Huge disappointement.
I don't know how many errors Kuznetsova had to made that Radwanska could win this. I always thought it will turn around at 2-3 40-15, i was pretty sure it will turn.
Great show-up from Kuznetsova although it's annoying that she only does this once a year.
For Radwanska: She played bad, today she had no game.

It was like a reminder of last years 3rd round between Hantuchova and Wozniacki.

Wozniacki (in 2011 as No.1) was overrated,
and so is Radwanska (in 2012 as No.3) at least on clay.

I really hope Radwanska can improve her game more and more and get a better second serve. Today she had so many problems with those topspin balls, it was really unbelievable that a Top3-Player has problems with Topspin on nearly every shot!

dsanders calls everything, and a stopped clock is right twice a day too.

I was almost fooled for the first time the other day into thinking Radwanska was a decent player and possibly even had a shot at the title .... then, today, I'm reminded how utterly depressing it is how useless she is against any top player in half-decent form. Seriously. She didn't even have the body strength to get Kuznetsova's heavy balls back into court - it was painful watching all her shots flop into the bottom of the net

So not only does she continue to fall pitifully short of a Slam semifinal, she's now in the past 12 months earnt only the same amount of points in Grand Slams as #25 Pavlyuchenkova -- yet will probably remain #3. WTA :worship:

Sveta :inlove: Knew she could do it. Really should waltz into the semis with this draw, but I can't deny I'm scared like everyone else that Errani is going to make her implode

Absolutely amazing by Sveta. If she keeps up that form the quarters is a sure thing. Beyond that, hard to say but Sveta certainly has a shot against every player in the draw if she keeps that up. Movement, shot selection, and shot execution all superb.

Very bad day at the office for Aga, she quickly lost confidence and made way more errors than usual. Very little was working for Aga at all. But it has to be said, Sveta can take most of the credit for that. She really did wipe all Aga's confidence away within a couple of games. Impressive.

treufreund
Jun 1st, 2012, 12:42 PM
Exactly, Radwanska is a talented player BUT she needs to hit the gym, get physically stronger like Justine Henin IF she wants to beat the big girls. She needs more power in her game and a bigger serve.

Exactly but I don't know if she will do that if she is still too concerned with being "feminine." Justine was not worried one bit about looking like a tomboy at all. Any of the girls who do worry about being really girly are going to struggle with having the necessary firepower. Azarenka is also a tomboy. Sharapova, well, she is all that height and broad shoulders.

Here comes Sveta again with her random great Slam runs. WATCH OUT!

They are not even that random. Sveta rarely gets stopped before the quarterfinals at RG.

It would be much more random if Sveta lost early but doesn't lose early in Grand Slams very often.

Fact is, even when slumping, Sveta's great Slam runs are pretty regular.

there are innumerous number of so-called versatile players in WTA , but tennis is not about only variety , it's also about serve, power, precision of strikes, movement etc. Aga simply can not handle the pace and power of Kuznetsova.

It's like a well taught boxer , who knows about jabs, uppercuts and crosses knocked out in first round by a boxer who knows about left hook, left hook and it is enough .

Don't worry Aga fans, I'm sure she'll add to her many slam semifinal appearances in the future.

Moderators are very bad on this forum. All they can do is moving the threads to player forums and react for so called "racism" post.

Sexlana is now 10:3 in h2h. Did anyone know Aga was Sexlana's pigeon? Now 2:0 on clay, both at RG.

Yes, but Aga has a pair of important victories including at Wimbledon and another Slam (AO?).

Wow, I wish I could have seen! Looking forward to the highlights later. When Kuzzie is swinging freely, she's one of the Top 5 in the world for sure. She should have challenged Henin more back in the day on clay, but her head always got in the way. Then she should have taken over her title as Queen of Clay, but bad head again.

anyone read the rg report (http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/news/articles/2012-06-01/201206011338557050548.html) yet?

While Radwanska currently sits some 25 places above Kuznetsova, the rankings do not tell the full story. This was a match-up between a two-time Grand Slam champion and a young pretender who, while she has doubled her haul of WTA titles so far this year is yet to convince at the majors. Not only did Kuznetsova possess the big-match experience drawn from a decade spent mostly at the top of her sport, she also boasted a 9-3 head-to-head over Radwanska, including the last five times the pair had met.

so much life lol!!!

Azarenka's draw  Sorry, just ridiculous :hysteric:

Your post :hysteric:

1) If she makes the 4th round, she plays Domi... who has been snapping her opponents all tournament.
2) If she beats Domi, she'll probably play clay GOAT Stosur.
3) Radwanska losing actually makes Vika's draw more difficult. Vika fans would all love to have her play Aga in the SF. She is 6-0 against her this year. So Aga losing doesn't make Vika's draw easier.

Aga would have been a walkover to the final if they played in the semis

 Wow this should be easy.

1) She leads Cibulkova 7-1 in H2H. As much as I like Vania her opponents are hardly the calibre of Azarenka :tape:
2) She leads Stosur 6-0 in H2H.
3) Agnieszka, whilst having a dismal record against Vika, was the highest freaking seed in her entire half of the draw :hysteric:.

yes I totally agree with you ... Domi gave Vika a hard time at Indian Wells and Sam is GOAT on this surface and Sveta if she keeps up her form would be a tough opponent in SF ... with Serena out, Maria has an easier draw than Vika :oh:

You have got to be kidding? Li, Kvitova, Wozniacki - way tougher match-ups in comparison to Cibulkova (:tape: :hysteric:), Kuznetosva (could be completely off or on)...I'll give Stosur some credit but her match-up with Azarenka is woeful.

Tennis fans greeted the result and Agnieszka...

Aga's fans were at first in a state of shock...

Then they tried to hurt themselves...

Then they tried to attack other posters for no apparent reason...

Other TF posters tried to slap some sense into them (vspak  )

 Do you even watch tennis?

1) Do you remember their Miami match where Domi pushed Vika to the brink? This is clearly not a representative H2H. Plus Domi is barely dropping games right now. (And remember how good of a H2H Vika had against Marion until Miami...)
2) Stosur on clay is not equivalent to Stosur on hard.
3) Seed doesn't mean everything. There are much better players than Aga who are ranked lower (mainly Stosur, Svetlana).

Tennis is not simply about looking up H2Hs and rankings.

Not surprised to see all the anti-Radwanska posters out in force in this thread.

Personally I'm not inclinded to be critical of them. If ever there was a time for them to gloat this is it.

The result wasn't unexpected, Kuznetsova was the worst draw a top 16 player could have gotten in the 3rd round. On top of that clay is Aga's worst surface. And of course Sveta had won their last 5 matches going in. This was never going to be a walk in the park for Aga. Still she could have handled the situation better than she did. I expected a more competitive match.

Anyway, the result is what it is and if posters feel the need to proclaim what a terrible tennis player Radwanska is, this is about as fine and opportune a time as one could ask for. Personally I can't imagine celebrating a player's loss to the extent one sees in this thread but what the hell? Whatever makes one happy I suppose.

SVETAAAAAAAAAAAAAA:bowdown::bowdown: Awesome Sveta :inlove: :worship::worship:
What a beatdown! :drool::drool:
Radwanska said three years ago that it's simple to beat Kuznetsova, you just have to annoy her on court and make her think 'cause she's mentally unstable. Since then Sveta has never lost a match to her again, including some nice beatdowns along the way
Someone needs to upload the match on youtube. I'll enjoy every second of it

Domi right now is playing a ball bashing tennis. And it comes up very short against the likes of Li Na(Rome). But given her movement (better than Vika's on clay) I really wouldn't be surprised if she could manage to pull off the upset.
