Nice demo job by Na! :woohoo: Had a tiny bit of trouble closing it out but regardless, she is showing good mental fortitude in these early rounds, and her confidence seems to be growing match by match.

Na was 8-0 before those double faults

Great year for Steph! I recall before making the 2R in the AO this year, she hadn't made it to the 2R since 2005

One good set, one mediocre one. Enough to make it to the QF, but not enough for Kvitova.

This. But it's not unusual for Na to have good matches in the early rounds and then throw in a shitfest in a later round, or for her to struggle in early rounds and then pull herself together in later rounds. Impossible to predict.

Li Na is probably one of the most unpredictable player in the tour. Sometimes we call her 'AmazoNAs', 'coz she changes like the weather of tropical rain forests, one minute the sun's still shining, the next a pouring rain could come down out of nowhere.:rain:

Of course you approach a match against Foretz Gacon the same way you approach one against Petra Kvitova.

don't want to be too defensive, but I don't see how she was so mediocre in the 2nd set. I mean, 60 62, that match didnt even deserve a thread. seriously. or to lose 2 games to SFG means she was horrible, or something? maybe this is not the case, but the same thing happened before R1: people expecting Na to lose, to continue her so called slump etc. those times are over, she's been the most consistent player this year, except the top 3 (as for serena, I say she's a case apart), she's been more consistent than Petra this year, and this is the reason why I can expect her to reach at least the semis (not underestimating no one, not even McHale, figure Petra...). as always, it's always in her hand, or better, in her brain. she can be perfect or not, it depends on her bipolarism, but seriously, slump this and slump that... meh.

So, were are all those "experts" that were predicting Na bursting out in first few rounds? I guess she lost the least number of games so far

I'm very confident that if Na and Petra play... Na will beat her fairly easily. Na has been in VERY impressive form and Petra has been pretty average all clay season.

I think Na will waltz to the final where she will finally get anxious about defending her title.

Good win today though! :yeah: It's nice to see her gaining steam at the right time. Although, Foretz Gacon is absolutely worthless on a good day.

Good luck to Na moving forward!

This is what Foretz Gacon said about Na..

"The start of the match was tighter, but then she became sort of mechanical, like a windshield wiper."

Foretz Gacon is different in so many ways... Her tennis, and those glasses.
Anyways a very good result for Li Na.
