 Mattek-Sands/Stephens in R3

A great turnaround after losing ten matches before Fes
and now she's snatching wigs left and right

First RG 3r for this lovely woman.

I'm so glad for Mathilde. She lost in previous years many closed matches. She deserves it.

Mathilde probably told herself this was like a practice match. ;)
I have never seen her playing so confidently from the baseline. Her serve did show some signs of nerves but she handled it pretty well for her standards.
Bravo Mathilde, lovely win !

nice to see Johansson win but now one of her/Stephens or Mattek in last 16 of RG is just not right

It could sound stupid or overdone, but Mathilde Johansson has one of the most entertaining games in women's tennis. She hits the ball in a perfect way, makes great winners and can find fantastic angles. And it makes it hard to cheer against her: she is a pretty, funny and entertaining girl :)
I wanted Petra to win, but I am too happy that Johansson is getting what she should regularly do. Very good chance to go to the third round :D Seeing how amazingly she played today, I really want her to go on :yeah:

I watched the last few games on Croatian national TV :spit:

Mathilde's ground game is really nice. No choking this time. Well deserved win :yeah:

Petra looks great in one match and then mediocre in the next ten.

Have to say I wanted Petra to win this battle of the beauties. She does have the much more interesting game as far as I'm concerned. But this does seem to be a match up that doesn't bring the best out of Petra for reasons I'm not really clear about.

Mathilde is now 3-1, with 3 straight set wins in a row, all on clay, against Petra. Contrast this with Petra's 4-0 H2H against Radwanska and one can only shrug ones shoulders in bafflement. Does this really mean Mathilde Johansson >>>> Agnieszka Radwanska? Surely not. But seriously, match-ups are a strange thing on the WTA tour.

I like Petra better and she had an open draw to go far, but Im glad Mathilde won. She played so confidently like she had nothing to lose. She has a winnable next round as well. Congratulations! :) nice to see Johansson win but now one of her/Stephens or Mattek in last 16 of RG is just not rightI bet you wouldnt mind Bratchikova against Govortsova

Wow, Johansson really surprised me there. She improved sooo much: her serve is solid, her groundstrokes are hit less hard but with more consistency and with good pace. She could have a good chance against Stephens for a 4R spot.

Agree. Personally, I find way more beautiful than some overrated players (looks-wise) on this board (like pova & makiri). She is certainly underrated looks-wise on TF.

I wish her best of luck in her next match. Making R3 is already a great result for her.

When you have a quadrant flanked by Lisicki and Cetkovska as the seeds, it seems almost less surprising that it is Mathilde or Sloane.

Is this a coincidence or what.... :secret:

There are a lot of French players. Often one sneaks up through a few rounds with a nice draw but when you have a lot of players to begin with and those players are well supported by the crowds to help them take advantage when a draw does open up, I would say it is much more to do with the fact that if you've got enough players in a tournament the odds are one or two will get nice draw. Let's not forget, they didn't all get nice draws. Mladenovic, Larriere, Cornet and of course Razzano (even though she did win) hardly got the kindest of draws, so I wouldn't exactly say its a coincidence. I'd just say its well within the laws of probability and nothing unusual.
