Tough draw Barty. Few too many drop shots and double faults, but the experience helps.

NID. Can't read much into this match. Barty is irrelevant and useless.

Disappointing from Ashley, thought she had a chance in this match but the df's made it hard. She was hitting the ball very well apart from too many dropshots. Now has a good chance of defending Wimbledon

The difference between a Wimbledon champion and a Wimbledon junior champion.

Well done to Petra! Easy win for her and good start to the tournament! :worship:

But Barty, talented junior as she is, is clearly not good enough for the main tour yet. A few good wins in rubbishy Aussie ITFs do not mean much at this level. I am hoping that the Wimbledon authorities are taking note of this performance and do not give this girl a third consecutive GS MDWC, which seems undeserved - junior champions have been demoted to QWCs in the past and it seems unfair for Wimbledon to give a MDWC to an Aussie ranked outside 300 when Brits are banned from MDWCs if they are ranked lower than 250.

Yeah, your fave looked much more impressive yesterday against Brianti.

Normal match from Petra but Barty certainly because of her age/inexperience sucked pretty ; she's not really accustomed to this kind pace - so not much to take from this.

We'll see against stronger/better opposition where Petra really is at.

She did better than Cadantu is doing haha. Clay was never gonna work for Barty with her serve not being so strong yet. Grass is a totally different story as we saw with Tomic/Pironkova last year where the faster surface makes up for lack of power!

Petra conserved energy for later rounds. :yeah: Seems like Ashley will have to go the same painful road all teenagers are going these days, which is very slowly to the top. Maybe she'd play better against an unseeded opponent though.

In a broader sense, I think this once again confirms the greatness of Martina Hingis, who was able to win maiden grandslams and dominate the field at Barty's age.

No. For me, it's a stat. Per game makes more sense to me than comparing say 30 W in a 12 game match to 30 W in a 30 game match. There's a thread with these stats for the top 10 in the RG sub-forum. www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?p=21522266

My point is is that I'm sick of people being so fricking condescending about any positive result Kvitova has this year. Despite not being in-form consistently and dealing with a string of nagging injuries in 2012, she's had some great results, especially Fed Cup, and, oh, making the SF of a grand slam -- her best-ever performance at the Oz Open. Barty played poorly, yes, but Kvitova had nothing to do with that? She kept her UEs down, served decently, returned well, volleyed well, and overall played a steady, solid match. So instead of saying well done, instead we get (from a Shrieka fan no less) "not particularly impressive." Whatever.

Ok, I was wrong, I was a fool thinking Barty will be impressive (meaning 6-7 games in total ). I'm glad I didn't watch this match.
