PS. Wouldn't it be so anticlimatic if Serena won now and Hampton was the only American to loose and ruin it for everyone

Or if Hampton won and Serena lost, now that would be too much.

Varva Lepchenko isn't a real American isn't she Eastern European?

Wow! What a roller coaster. Varvie imploded during the second set up 5-1 and losing it in tb after having mps. Last game took forever, but glad she got it done.

Way to go Varva! 10-0 for Team USA!!!

Varva Lepchenko isn't a real American isn't she Eastern European?

She and her family came to the States years ago to escape persecution from I think Uzbekistan... she considers America her home and just got her full citizenship this year.

Immigrants have always made the best citizens and have made the biggest sacrifices.

Serena and Jamie tomorrow should make it a clean sweep. Incredible!

And we are guaranteed to have Bethanie or Sloane and Christina or Lauren in R3. INCREDIBLE.

Great fight from Varvara - A lot of players would have crumbled in that third set after letting such a big lead and match points slip away in the second, fantastic effort to keep it together and close it out in the end :)

Yup, there was even a thread about it in GM when she ceremoniously received her US citizenship :bounce:
