Wow! 9-0 and nearly 10-0 when Lepchenko closes her match out too :spit: Who would have seen this coming?

I think this is a good win for Sloane. Yes Makarova can be up and down but she still seems to play well at the slams and I was pretty nervous for Sloane coming into the match. Great job Sloane! :)

Well done Sloane! Only followed the sb, but was nice to see that she was able to hold serve late in the 2nd, and after going down a mini break in the tb, and squandering 2 mps, that she was able to get it done.

Sloane :yeah:

She's in a nice portion of the draw too with Beth up next, then potentially Cetkovska. Keeping her Olympic hopes somewhat alive.

Wow. Funny match. Okay apparently I didn't watch the match, but if the stats on the website is correct, then it's quite a miracle Stephens won it, coz she hit fewer winners, more UEs, and actually won 3 points fewer than Makarova did.

naah...I'm guessing she's a "fluke" just because she dared to beat a certain player in Australia earlier this year:lol:

For those of you who champion Serena Williams as a sure fire winner here; might bear in mind that she lost at the ’12 AO Open to …..

While carrying a foot injury. I don't know why you bitches fail to remember that very important detail.

I don't think she's a sure fire winner here, this is clay. I fail to see why you have to bring up her name in here? We've already forgotten about AO. :wavey:

This is a good win for Sloane she's doing very well and handled the pressure! Great to see a young black tennis player do well at a grand slam!

I didn’t mean to rain on Sloane’s parade and I certainly congratulate her on her victory. I concede my comment would have been more appropriate in another thread and so I’ll follow my own advice.

Awesome Sloane :yeah: So glad she didn't choke :D Makarova is not a good clay court player so this result shouldn't be a surprise

It's Sloane though. She isn't some kind of GOAT (yet) and Makarova is still a 'good' player on tour. Very good win, especially since Main Draw Grand Slam victories aren't a given for her.
