Welcome to Charleston, USA! In the present state of the WTA calendar, this tournament has managed to sustain itself as the lone green clay tournament of the year. Needless to say, this unique surface as well as its Daniel Island location in South Carolina makes for a beautiful and intimate setting and has led this event to become a player and fan favorite event. After Swiss Patty Schnyder's retirement last year, this tournament lost a player who had one of the strongest connections with it. However, Russian Nadia Petrova has a similar link to boast now and she is entered once again this year, as a very dangerous unseeded team with Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva. The top seeds, Americans Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond have been nearly unstoppable lately second seeds, Czech Květa Peschke and Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik, who have just returned to action, would like to have their say this week. If they can get past the first round that is, as the Czech team of Iveta Benešová and Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová has continually proved to be dangerous. Another favored team this week includes one of the defending champions, American Vania King, who is taking on a new partnership this week with Australian Anastasia Rodionova after her apparent split from former partner Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova, who actually meet King in the first round as she pairs with Spanish stalwart Anabel Medina Garrigues. With such depth in this unique tournament, this will be a week to remember on the PYW doubles circuit. Vote now as the Family Circle Cup begins!
