Maria got a GREAT section.

(16)Maria Kirilenko (RUS) v (wc)Victoria Larrière (FRA)
Klara Zakopalova (CZE) v Lesia Tsurenko (UKR)
Anne Keothavong (GBR) v Melinda Czink (HUN)
(22)Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) v Greta Arn (HUN)

She should at least get to the Rd 16, where Masha will be waiting.

Best slam draw she's ever had tbh. Please don't screw it up. :hysteric: It'd be terrible if she retired or something, not defending her points here would suck.

Pavlyuchenkova isn't an easy opponent, sure she isn't playing great but she is capable of a lot on her day. Step it up Kiri!!

Nikkiri
May 27th, 2012, 12:12 PM
I think it depends on her injury. Her confidence is low because of it, but it's a good draw to get on a roll if she's healthy.

Oh yeah I'm back. :wavey:

It is good to have you back ;). Also Kiri wasn't too successful while you've been away. So its hopefully a good sign. Her draw is really good, in doubles as well, let's go ;)

Bonjour, I am back too!!!! :wavey:

I was in croatia for some days to take a little holiday, and there I did not have the opportunity to log in here on tennis forum ;)

..but I checked the draw in the videotext on the TV, and yeah, it's an awesome draw!! finally some good luck for kiri in a GS-draw :bounce:

now let's just hope she can take some advantage from it, last 16 would be so fantastic!! I hope her ankle is ok ...

maria will play the 4th match on Court 3, where they start at 11:00 AM with the first match

Ok it seems easy for Maria, there's like a world between these two player. If she doesn't overchoke, it will be 6-1 6-1.

By the way Victoria Larriere is really cute (lack of boobs though).

Zakopalova is playing quite well, why is she 44th only ?

Because she's not consistent at all. We saw it during that match, she started awfully, woke up at 0-4 and hit all the lines to finish the set. Then, she played quite bad during the 2nd set and didn't miss a ball at the end of the 3rd especially hitting winners from everywhere with her backhand.

Maria started very well but played badly during the main part of the match, very sad for her because she had a very nice draw playing Pavs after. She looked tired at the end and stopped grunting when she was leading 3-2, have no idea why, maybe the chair umpire asked her to or she felt that she had no energy left to grunt but yeah, a pretty bad performance:(

Maria pretty much handed her the match on a silver platter. Hitting the ball down the middle, short balls and that fucking useless slice. Her game is down the crapper. No fucking game plan at all. I am disgusted. Had no business losing that match. 4-0 40-0 up and then nothing. Pathetic. Ovi never stopped cheering for her though.. too bad she is just so uninspired. The whole stupid clay season has been one big joke. She should be ashamed.

Celeborn
May 31st, 2012, 01:08 PM
What a devastating loss :tears:. She really gifted the first set to her, you simply must not loose from 4:0 up. Otherwise she would have won quite easily, as it should be, cause she is the better player. Bad bad play, don't know what else to say.

How the **** is it possible to choke so much

I am asking myself the same, but I simply can't help supporting her

I also think it all has to do with her ankle too, she can't move as good as she want to :( what do you think?

but she still could/should have won her matches against knapp, pennetta and now zakopalova this clay season...she just lost them because of her terrible choking...she really should think of engaging a mental trainer or something..

Yeah, days like today are tough. Not sure if she will ever get a better slam draw and than this. What a waste of her good ranking and all the really hard work to get it :(. Her confidence is just not as high as it should be, otherwise she would have won the first set easily, even after that stupid thing at 4:0. But she collapsed :(

I don't think I will ever stop supporting her just because of the great the person she is. I never followed tennis as closely as I do it now and I think the moment she stops playing I will get back to watch only last round of slams, as it was before.

But today is really frustrating :(

Maria got a GREAT section.

(16)Maria Kirilenko (RUS) v (wc)Victoria Larrière (FRA)
Klara Zakopalova (CZE) v Lesia Tsurenko (UKR)
Anne Keothavong (GBR) v Melinda Czink (HUN)
(22)Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) v Greta Arn (HUN)

She should at least get to the Rd 16, where Masha will be waiting.
I guess Maria didn't realize she was in a great section of the draw. It looks like Makiri blew another golden opportunity. Funny how she made it to #16 her career high after her nice start to 2012 and then her game has plummeted since then and it can't just be because of red clay. Maria probably would have gotten a beating from Sharapova in the round of 16 but I still would have liked to have seen that match because Sharapova sometimes plays like crap against other Russina's including Makiri. But who is to say Maria would have won her third round match?

If Maria's new boyfriend who makes 15 million dollars a year is taking care of all Maria's bills and desires then I think that will quell Makiri's hunger on court in my opinion. I want Maria to be happy of course she is truly a great person but if she's not hungry the way Aga Radwanska is then Maria will never fulfill her vast potential. Her skill level is too good to just make it to #16.

It's time for Maria to send daddy home and ge a real coach to help her save her career. But I don't expect that to happen because Masha does not want to break up their strong family ties. But she needs to. Wozniacki's dad is in the way of Caro improving too. This is common in tennis. As fragile as Maria's knees are she needs to be healthy to max out her talent. I hope she can find the fire for this summer because of she doesn't she will get pounded and her ranling will suffer bigtime. If Kirilenko is not healthy she should be resting and getting healthy because if she isn't running well she isn't going to win matches let alone winning another WTA title.

The way Maria is playing she might be out of the top 30 by the end of the year. I just hope she can get healthy and start moving great again because if Makiri is not moving well she will be easy prey for most of her opponents.

But today is really frustrating :(
We should absolutely never stop supporting Maria because she is a gem. :D But the thing is I believe we think more of Makiri than she actually thinks of herself as a tennis player and as a person. I wish she had a much bigger ego than she does.

And for the life of me I can't fathom why as well as she moves and with the great footwork that she has that Maria is so bad on clay and grass courts.

It's time for Maria to send daddy home and ge a real coach to help her save her career. But I don't expect that to happen because Masha does not want to break up their strong family ties. But she needs to. Wozniacki's dad is in the way of Caro improving too. This is common in tennis. As fragile as Maria's knees are she needs to be healthy to max out her talent. First of all, Sharapova played always well against Maria, it is just that Maria knows her very well and likes to play against her. Secondly, she isn't in the top 10 because she is too tiny, first and foremost. She has to work for the win in every single match of hers, unlike, for instance, Sharapova, who can win even on an off day thanks to her height. And there are many others. With Maria's game this is just not possible.

The last two months have been terribly disappointing, but she will come back to a good form, if she wants it and continues to work hard. And I think she still wants it. But sadly, it is very unlikely that she ever wins a slam, but this doesn't make her a bad person or less talented. I honestly think this is just due to a lack of physical requirements.

I don't know much about Radwanska's game, she is obviously doing something right, but to win a slam will be difficult for her as well for similar reasons.

By the way, look at Kiri's doubles partners. Pennetta started to play better back than, Azarenka became number 1 and Petrova found interest again in tennis. That is saying something and I like it.

By the way, I just looked at the result thread in GM, Sharapova really has the most ridiculous fans I can imagine. Absolutely pathetic.

I like your posts, there is not much more to add...

but I still can't believe what happened... even after that horrible 1st set she still had great chances to win it in three...
that's an example how you can waste a promising draw :bigcry:

I guess there isn't a good draw for kiri as long as she is her toughest opponent. I mean, at the moment, she can lose to everyone, she even can lose a match when she is leading 6-0 and 5-0 40-00 I guess :bigcry:

but as others sad, as long as she plays on the tour, I won't stop supporting her, impossible..

There is no doubt Maria's size or lack of size and weight and power is the main reason she has never made the top 10. I also believe she is mentally beaten up and physically beaten up after 10 years on the WTA Tour. :( Once other finesse players like Maria lose something mentally thier games collapse. Look at Jelena Jankovic. She's a good bit bigger than Makiri no matter what the WTA Tour guide says but Jelena worked so hard to become #1 that once her mind started to get burned out a couple years ago her results went south fast. Very fast. :tennis: :bolt: I hope the same thing does not happen to Maria. I know Maria has phyciall issues with her legs but I just hope she can get mentally tough enough the next couple years to play her best tennis. But I have my doubts at this point. Makiri is a great girl who is having a very good tennis career and a great life. But she should be better as a tennis player than she is.

If Maria had Aga Radwanska's desire and fight on court she would be in the top 5 and Aga would not. Maria has superior size, talent and power over Aga yet Aga is the much better tennis player. That should not be the case and that is largely on Maria. Sure Aga is smarter and tougher than Maria but Masha has more game than Aga does so it's painful to see Radwanska in the top 5 while Maria has struggled so mich to make the top 20 in her career.

Celebrorn, great point about how Makiri's doubles partners become better singles players after they play doubles with Makiri. :yeah: That is true. And it goes back to Sharapova in 2004 as well. ;)

The loss today was bad but losing the 4 - 0 40 - 0 first set lead today may be something Makiri never fully recovers from. It's hard to believe Maria could lose that first set. But she did.

And they are not tennis people by trade. Or maybe Makiri believes what she does is none of her fans business. :shrug;

I would like to see Kirilenko take a few days off to see if she can heal up with her injuries. I would love to Masha to have a fine grass court season but I think that's a big reach at this point.

But so much depends on how healthy her legs are. She had the thigh injury early in the year and now she has ankle issues. Playing Strasbourg was a bad idea for Maria when she should have been practicing in Paris for the French Open.

I'm not sure, it will start all over again, but it kind of would have been the same if they have continued. So I think it should be ok for both. But great fightback, to me it looked as if it was all over. But one bad point ( I think it was at 2:4 15:30 where one of them hit an easy ball at the wrong side of the net, the racket crossed the net so to speak) and suddenly the optimism was back and Nadia/Kiri started to play great and the others missed more. I'm checking in to bring Makiri some good luck in her tres difficile (very difficult) French Open doubles final currently in a rain delay. :D  :smooch: I hope Maria does not let another golden grand slam singles and doubles opportunity slip through her fingers in this doubles final. Maria and Nadia are up a set but down a break in the second set. Sara Errani may press a little bit after the rain delay to get this important doubles final over as soon as possible because at this point a long doubles final could hurt her chances against Maria Sharapova in the French Open final tomorrow. Errani really should be focusing on Sharapova today in her singles practice. But here she is stuck in a very tough doubles final instead and that may cause her to stress and press to end the doubles final pronto so she can rest for her huge singles final tomorrow.

Patience is a virtue. Makiri can wait all day for this match to resume. Errani can't afford to wait and that may affect her play when the match resumes. I hope so anyway. Udachi Maria and Nedia! :bounce:

Argh. Vinci/Errani hold for 6-4 2nd set at Ad Vinci/Errani from 15-30 to 40-30 to 40-40. :( Win it in 3 Maria/Petrova.

Maria/Petrova were down 4-2 2nd set but rallied to 4-4.

It depends on the moment, now it's Maria but at the end of the 2nd, yes, it was Nadia.

Disappointed, but I think Errani/Vinci were just better on this slow surface, with clever shots and great focus. Maria and Nadia commited too much errors.

Face it we're probably never gonna get one. Sigh. Kiri played really well for a lot of the match. Disappointing yet again.

Thanks for the updates Protoss.

I am really sad Makiri lost another grand slam match she was leading in. I wish Maria had the tennis brains and tennis heart of Francesca Schiavone and Sara Errani. If she did she would be much better than just top 20 in singles and top 10 in doubles. There is no reason with Makiri's talent level and with her great hands and footwork and shotmaking ability that she should have never been in the top 10 in singles by now. I sometimes feel she is just coasting along in her career. Maria is having a good career and a great life but she could be doing more than she has to this point in my opinion. And at age 25 she may have played her best tennis by now but I hope not. I hope Adidas can hook her up with a good coach who can help her unlock some of her fine potential that she keeps buried within her.

We are using Errani now as an example? Sometimes you just need a bit of luck. Maybe one day a draw will open up for her too. She didn't lose this match on her own.. actually in both her doubles finals she played really well. It's disappointing but lets not get carried away. Theres nothing wrong with not being a top 10 player I wish people would realize that. Pennetta was older than 25 when she started playing her best tennis. Anything can happen. And Kiri is a fighter and a hard worker she is trying to be the best she can be, no doubt about it.

I felt Kiri was the best player on the court today. She hit some amazing shots. However, Kiri and Nadia had some real bonehead errors, and that is the reason they lost today. It is really disappointing after starting the match so well. I feel that there is no way they loose this match up on on grass or hard court. So hopefully Kiri will be able to heal her ankle in time for Wimbledon.

Very sad :(. My stream died in the 3rd set, probably the missed break points at 1:0 were already decisive :(

Does someone have the ceremony? Someone said Kiri's speech is a must ;).

Oh I remember Date-Krumm gave her a grasscourt tennis lesson last year there :oh:

Maria has to learn grass tennis fast for the OG.

Hmm I know you're joking but I don't really think she can. When she got to AO QF her leg was already falling off. Errani got to the QFs and now she's in the final and won doubles too. Kiri would have to work alot on her fitness.
Also, Kiri doesn't have a surface where she is clearly one of the best players in the world like Errani has clay. Right now her best chance to go deep at a major would be in the USO because it's on hardcourt and it's not in the beginning of the season.

MK, Makiri needs to work on her fitness or conditioning? I think she's been in very good shape and fitness for the first 10 years of her WTA career. She is leaner than all the other players. She works on her fitness. But I think she may lack something where conditioning is concerned. Makiri is not as durable as she needs to be and Sara Errani is the perfect example of an undersized player who has great conditioning that carries her through the late stages of tournaments in singles and doubles. Maria has more natural talent than Errani but Errani is the well conditioned warrior Maria has never been.

Also if you remember the Kirilenko / Sharapova match from Indian Wells 2012 Makiri was clearly the more impressive player that day but she still lost because Big Masha a tennis heavyweight kept pounding on Little Masha a tennis lightweight for 3 sets and that took it's toll on Kirilenko. :tennis: :smash: I can understand why Maria struggles against the power players but I can't accept Makiri's terrible record against non power players like Errani, Jelena Jankovic, Aga Radwanska and Caroline Wozniacki. That is on Makiri.

That said Maria is in the top 20 in singles and top 10 in doubles and that is a fine acheivement for her but she can do better in my opinion.

The first step would be to get a coach. Errani, Kerber, Petkovic (etc.) all are having success and all of them have a coach. She should stop being stubborn and find someone, someone good.

But I think she is just happey paying her dad to be her coach. This way she keeps the money in the family.

Years ago Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova shared alot of fans here at WTA World. Are there any other Little Masha fans here who are happy for Big Masha winning the French Open and career grand slam today? I am. Just curious to see if there are others.
