View Full Version : Fiona Ferro

Apr 12th, 2012, 01:47 PM
Hi everyone!

A deserved thread for Fiona who is a young french prospect for the future. She was born in march 1997 and is doing very good on junior circuit.

she's training in Nice at the ISP Academy. Her actual coach is former Alize Cornet coach when reached rank n°11, Pierre Bouteyre. She won the french championships at 12 in 2009 and semis at 13-14 last year (losing to Muntean). Fiona improved very nicely since a year.

She reached Florence finale (G2) last week and is now in Cap d'Ail Semi finale facing Bara of Romania. Here a video of her at 12 years old when she won the french championshipshttp://www.fft.fr/actualites/tennis-media/les-videos/fiona-ferro-championne-de-france-12-ans-2009?page=1&theme=Junior

Good luck to her!

She ended up withdrawing from the semifinal against Bara in G2 Tennis Open Junior de Cap D'Ail. :(

I don't know much about her, but I just noticed 16-year-old Ferro is in the QF of 50K Contrexeville, after only a few tournaments on the ITF tour! Has anyone seen her play before? How much potential does she have?
Next up should be tough: T. Bacsinszky.

May 17th, 2014, 06:03 PM
Fiona is 17 but not showing big impression yet. Even in junior she doesnt have great results seems like she doesnt care that much...

dont know if she's still been coached by Pierre Bouteyre (Alize Cornet former coach) but looking to see her play at Roland Garros as she got Main draw wild card!

May 26th, 2014, 12:38 PM
Fiona just lost 1-6 5-7 against sabine lisicki at Roland Garros R1

Well lot of things to work for her

1) serve: so weak and inconsistent, has to work hard on it

2) lack of power : she was trying to hit her shots but lisicki was firing her and let her far from the ball

3) her game is still too much "junior", she showed some good sense of the game in the 2nd set, she was leading 4-1 but couldnt sustain it,

4) has to work hard to build her body

Jun 1st, 2014, 08:00 PM
She's playing junior RG now, and just beat seed 13 Olga Fridman 2 & 3 in R1. :yeah: R2 vs. (SE)Akvile Parazinskaite. :cheer:

Jun 3rd, 2014, 09:01 PM
Beat her 1 & 3. :) :yeah: R3 vs. (1)Ivana Jorovic :scared: :cheer:

Jun 5th, 2014, 12:15 AM
Well she lost, 4 & 2. Expected a closer match, tbh. :(

Jun 5th, 2014, 12:49 PM
Well she lost, 4 & 2. Expected a closer match, tbh. :(

jorovic improved a lot more than her, she will be world n°1

Fiona needs to work a lot harder to improve and set herself to the itf/pro tour imo

Jul 1st, 2014, 12:52 AM
Skipping Wimbledon this week. :o

And playing 25K Denain instead. R1 vs. (8)Chieh-Yu Hsu. Allez! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

Jul 1st, 2014, 11:09 AM
I dont understand why she doesnt play Wimbledon ...
But, well, it's her choice, maybe not a bad choice after all.
She beat Hsu last week, or was another Hsu ?

Jul 4th, 2014, 09:17 AM
She begins to be really regular. I never saw her, i heard some people tell that she needs really work, but actually she made some goods results in ITF! Skipping Wimbledon for Denain was risky but yeah, well done Fiona!

Jul 4th, 2014, 10:10 PM
She beat Molinero!!! :woohoo: 6-7(4) 6-4 6-2 :inlove: :yeah:

Great that after losing a tough 1st set she didn't lose her focus and fighting spirit! :yeah:

SF vs. (Q)Estelle Cascino, who defeated (4)Julie Coin in 3 sets in QF. Fiona is the favourite, but she'll have to fight hard! :cheer:

Jul 5th, 2014, 11:15 PM
Won 6-4 7-5. :yeah:

Fiona in the final!!! :woohoo: :yeah: She won't regret skipping Wimbly for sure now.

Final vs. (5)Andreea Mitu. Mitu is the clear favourite, but I believe Fiona can make this a real match, hopefully it will be a good fight. :) :cheer:

Jul 6th, 2014, 10:18 PM
Lost 6-4 2-6 1-6. :awww:  Too bad she couldn't keep it on after grabbing the 1st set, but Mitu is a very talented and dangerous player, and playing a competitive final against her is great. :yeah:

Congrats on this week Fiona. :yeah: Skipping Wimbledon proved to be not such a bad decision afterwards. :)

Jul 7th, 2014, 10:36 AM
She received a MDWC in 100K Biarritz this week. :D R1 vs. (4)Pauline Parmentier! :scared: Allez!!! :cheer::cheer:

Jul 8th, 2014, 06:07 PM
Match interrupted at *2-4 30-40. Rain, I suppose.

Hopefully it's for the best as she was not exactly in a good position. :sobbing: :)

Jul 8th, 2014, 09:46 PM
Btw, this week she reaches a new CHR of 385 (up 4 spots). :awww: :cheer:

Jul 9th, 2014, 11:28 AM
Lost 2-6 5-7. Was up 3-0* in set 2, but got caught back to *3-5. :sobbing: Then she held at broke at 4-5* to level it up to 5 all, but then lost the next 2 games. :smash:

Too bad she couldn't grab that 2nd set, I think she really could have done that, but that's still a decent showing against the RG 1/8 finalist. :)

Oct 14th, 2014, 03:38 PM

Jan 15th, 2015, 04:24 AM
Fiona's match is streamed, starting now, allez! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

Jan 15th, 2015, 04:50 AM
Fiona Ferro definitely needs to revise her technique/stroke production (especially her FH) if she wants to enter the top 100 one day and play well on all surfaces (and not only on clay).

Jan 15th, 2015, 04:56 AM
Up 6-1 :bounce: Playing well so far, taking the ball early, playing deep and imposing her pace. Moore is abysmal thoug :tape:

Jan 15th, 2015, 05:54 AM
Moore finding the court in the 2nd set and Fiona is struggling... :o 6-1 5-7 :tears:

Jan 15th, 2015, 06:28 AM
Lost 6-1 5-7 2-6 :sobbing:

As soon as Moore started to find the court, Fiona started to fade and flop :o :tape:

Jan 15th, 2015, 12:04 PM

Fiona's match starts around 4h50mins :)

You must spread some Reputations .... Mercii:kiss::wavey:

Jan 16th, 2015, 04:19 PM
well just watched the match and many good things to note for Fiona even if she didnt get the win

1) she did improve from the last time I was her play :

-her serve : she has a more stable serve, solid 1st serve but has to work on her 2nd serve cause she will get murdered against much better players
-her backhand : her less strong side if compared with her forehand, more solid for sure, she can slice it too

2) her qualities :

well dont know who were the commentators but the lady speaking was very positive about Fiona and how she constructs her point and yes she 's thinking very well her game, using nice angles, heights, she can have some variety

3) what to work on:

-her pace : her shots are not doing munch of damage, of coure she can hit harder at times but against higher ranked player she will be eaten alive
-her physical condition : she looked tired in the 3rd set and to climb the ranking she must become a "beast" lol

I think she must keep working hard on being more consistent and perhaps come to the net more, get even more variety to her game cause the tour lacking that.

Jan 16th, 2015, 04:22 PM
I thought she improved as well. :) The lady commentating was Bojana Bobusic, a recently retired Australian player, she's nice and quite insightful!

Jan 16th, 2015, 04:26 PM

yes was nice to listen to her comments. Many who was observers in that match said good things about Fiona potential. I think the same but still in building, in construction

hopefully this year she'll win ITF tournaments:)

Jan 16th, 2015, 05:46 PM
She's playing the junior AO warm-up tournament... and got a tough section :o Allez! :cheer:

G1 Loy Yang Power Traralgon International

(7)Fiona Ferro (FRA) v Mia Horvit (USA)
(wc)Maddison Inglis (AUS) v Yue Yuan (CHN)
Katherine Sebov (CAN) v Viktoria Kuzmova (SVK)
(12)Katie Swan (GBR) v Mayuka Aikawa (JPN)

Jan 18th, 2015, 08:14 PM
Fiona won 6-7(5) 6-3 6-0 in R1, and then beat (WC)Inglis 4 & 4 in R2. :)

R3 vs. Sebov :cheer:

Jan 19th, 2015, 08:20 PM
She fell to Sebov, 6-2 2-6 4-6 :awww:

Sebov is a good player, she routined the #1 Shilin Xu and the Orange Bowl for instance a couple months ago... Too bad Fiona couldn't keep the momentum after taking the 1st set fairly easily though. :(

Jan 24th, 2015, 11:10 PM
Fiona lost to (Q)Anastasia Gasanova 3 & 4 in R1 of the AO yesterday. :( Disgusting draw tbh though, she drew like the toughest qualifier ever (better than most direct MD entries)

Jan 25th, 2015, 11:37 AM
she must stop playing juniors to train in order to be competitive for the pro tour

she's still working with Pierre Bouteyre but he must make her work her weaknesses which are the serve, her backhand and lack of power. She's only 17 but find her quite "skinny"

Jan 26th, 2015, 12:31 PM

Feb 3rd, 2015, 01:43 PM
Wow, Fiona is playing 50K Burnie this week, and she beat Varatchaya Wongteanchai, 2-6 6-1 6-1 in R1! :bigclap: :D

R2 vs. (8)Andrea Hmavackova :scared:

Feb 4th, 2015, 06:25 PM
Fell to Andi, 5-7 3-6 :awww:

Nice showing this week :yeah:
