I think we may need a thread to discuss Danish tennis in general (non-juniors). Maria Jespersen is starting a pro career at the moment, and some others like Anna Signe Rasmussen and Malene Stripp, who are in their last junior seasons, have already tried their luck on the pro circuit a few times in 2012. And I guess there will others the next few years. Creating a new thread for each player might be a bit excessive.

This thread can also be used for Danish Fed Cup discussions now that Caro isn't playing on the team.

Maria Jespersen, 20 years of age, is the most recent Danish pro player. She's been playing as a qualifier i Greece this week, and performed pretty well in some tough matches.

$10,000 Heraklion, Greece

QR1 Maria JESPERSEN (DEN) d. Alessia CAMPLONE (ITA) 7-6(5) 6-1
QR2 Maria JESPERSEN (DEN) d. [13] Giulia BRUZZONE (ITA) 6-3 3-6 6-1
QR3 Maria JESPERSEN (DEN) d. Sabrina BAMBURAC (GBR) 3-6 7-5 7-6(8)

1R [2] Jasmin STEINHERR (GER) d. Maria JESPERSEN (DEN) 4-6 6-3 6-3

Pretty good effort against the 2nd seeded player! Here's Maria's own report from the match (brutally excerpted and translated from an article here (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/taet-pa-4542.php)):
We both held serve during the first set until I broke her love at 5-4! I'd been serving really well in the 1st set. I also began the 2nd set really well but I lost the concentration and didn't really believe I could win. I lost the set 6-3.

Then I began to play again like I had done in the 1st set. I was immedialtely up 3-1 with three breakpoints to 4-1! I was serving with new balls at 3-2 when I started to think too much about it. The pressure was growing and it was really important to hold serve. I had won my previous service game to love with four perfect first serves. But she was returning really well so I was broken to 3-3.
The last three games were really close but she eventually won the set 6-3.

We talked after the match, and she told me about her own struggles earlier in her career when she had gone through qualification only to lose against one of the top seeds in the first round of MD. She also told me, that the most experienced won today, but she complimented my game - my time will come. I'm already looking forward to my next tournament.

BTW: I got a new nickname at this tournament. Players and coaches call me Karlovic! They're all very impressed with my serves and the countless aces I've been serving here in Greece.

GL to Maria on the pro circuit!

Very true, so poor. Good that we have the WTA website :)

Main Draw is done today at 16:15.

TV2 News will have news about atleast Caro's Draw as last year...

Apr 7th, 2012, 02:20 PM
Det går ikke for godt for Svarre... :o 0-11...

Apr 7th, 2012, 02:23 PM
Hvad godt kan det være at give en ung en chance når hun ikke er nær at vinde just one game... ?

5-0 30-30... can she hold.....

Apr 7th, 2012, 02:24 PM
Nej 06 06. finito...

Apr 7th, 2012, 02:33 PM
37m 40s. Det er s'gu hurtigt selv for en 60 60'er. Håber ikke hun tager det for hårdt. Arrangørerne, eller er det WTA, skulle have dummebøder for det her.

Apr 7th, 2012, 02:37 PM
Hvis Alipieva kan tage 3 partier, vil det være en dundrende succes for hende. Ikke at jeg tror det sker efter 2 kampe allerede i dag.

Apr 7th, 2012, 02:41 PM
6-0 6-0 is not really surprising. I don't think she will take it too hard. Pro players like Barbat and Ejdesgaard have also been double-bageled in Copenhagen. And Svarre is not even an elite junior. But why she got a Wild card? I don't know.

Apr 7th, 2012, 02:44 PM
Jeg tror da Simone tager flere end 3... ;)

@backhandsmash: cheer up :) No need to be worried. Kvitova schooled Caro at 2010 Wimbledon 6-2 6-0. Caro didn't win much more points than Frederikke Svarre today (percentage wise). But Caro was ranked #4 and Kvitova #62! It seemed like a disaster for Caro, but she had her best year ever after that event!

Noone expects Alipieva to creat miracles. I'm sure it'll be great for her no matter what the outcome. Only I hope Simone isn't too tired having already played two matches today (she also won her doubls SF at the junior's today).

I am in a pretty cheery mood today actually. But as you (or was it Jorn?) mentioned: She's being "thrown to the wolves" or something like that.
But maybe the whole idea of this WC circus, was to give the youngsters an idea of the level played on the WTA tour? I don't think so, though. ;)

Godkendt resultat fra Alipieva. Jeg havde faktisk forventet 60 60 i den her.

Apr 7th, 2012, 05:26 PM
It was OK! Match lasted 62 minutes. Simone won 35 of 97 points which isn't too bad (36 %).

Well done, Simone!

Apr 7th, 2012, 09:51 PM
Acceptable result by Simone. Still a total irrelevant match for her and Chakvetadze was only playing 50%. She hardly wanted to sit down during change-over. The WTA players must be shaking their heads over how the Danes are wasting their precious WC's :)

Danmark - Montenegro 1-2.

Fed Cup-hold uden Wozniacki rykker ned

Malou Ejdesgaard og Cecilie Melsted tabte doublekampen i to sæt.

Danmark spillede fire kampe ved turneringen i Egypten, men alle blev tabt.

Nu er det da helt sikkert at Woz ikke spiller Fed Cup før 2015 eller deromkring. :(

Apr 22nd, 2012, 02:07 PM

She's not very cosistant to put it mildly. A week ago in Linköping, she lost the fist set to Eva Paalma, then won the 2nd set 6-0, was behind 0-5 in the 3rd before she could win the match in a tie break. It's as if she can't stay focused for a whole match, and certainly not for a streak of matches. I'm not sure how her coaching situation is now after her dad got a two year suspension from ITF but that could be one of the reasons for her inconsistency.

Danish Indoor Championships is coming up (March 2-9), and most of the Danish elite and some of the best juniors will play (Barbat, Grage, Stripp, Jespersen, Francati, Rønholt etc.). Malou is not on the acceptance list (http://www.tennis.dk/Sektioner/Turnering/Individuelle%20turneringer/~/media/Files/Turnering/DM%20Inde%20og%20Ude/Inde%202013/deltagerlister%20DMinde13.ashx), so she'll probably play a 10K instead. Martine Ditlev is also missing.

I hope you get to see Malou and possibly some others in Madrid, Sombrerero loco.

I wrote a lengthy post about the state of Danish women's tennis elsewhere on this board. One of the things I particularly missed was Danish pro tournaments. Apart from the Copenhagen WTA 2010-12 there hasn't been any pro tournaments in Denmark since 2008 - not even $10,000! But luckily some effort has been put into this: There will be three 10K's for men already this year, and probably some women's 10K tournaments in 2014. The 3 men's tournaments of 2013 will have 12 MD WC and 18 Q WC for Danish players. Hopefully this will make the transition to the pro circuit just a little bit easier for the Danish players. It's really difficult and expensive to make the breakthrough at the moment. The young talents can't get any MD entries when they start out as pros because they don't have a ranking (ATP or WTA). And they don't get any wild cards either, because there are no Danish tournaments (and why should foreign organizers give wc's to Danish players when they won't get anything in return?). It's still not a big improvement but it's a step in the right direction. Full article from the Tennis Federation (Danish):

Well done. Karen Barbat is also in MD. Karen and Anna are a doubles team this week. GL to both!

Latest news: Barbat hit her knee against something sharp and got an open wound. She's had some stitches but luckily no surgery was needed. She should be able to train again shortly. Malou also got a minor knee injury in a qualifying final at the start of the week. She had to withdraw leading 62 52! But she should also be back soon. But it's not the best preeparation for the upcoming Fed Cup. Really bad luck.

This week 6 Danish women and girls are in the qualifying draw at a 10K in Turkey (http://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/tournaments/women's-tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100028704): Julie Noe, Emilie Elsvad, Karina Jacobsgaard, Sofia Helgstrand, Mai Grage, Martine Ditlev. It's not often we see 6 Danes i a q-draw at a pro tournament. Malou was also on the entry list but had to withdraw because of the injury.

The Danish Tennis Federation has nominated these players for the Fed Cup in May: Karen Barbat, Mai Grage, Maria Jespersen, Karina Jacobsgaard, and Malou Ejdesgaard.

While these players probably are the most likely to win any matches this team selection seems a bit unambitious. I don't know why they didn't select one or two of the younger up-and-coming girls. There's also a Fed Cup next year etc., and the younger girls could use the experience. Karen and Mai are from 1992, Maria and Malou from 1991, and Karina from 1980. Emilie Francati (1997) defeated Maria Jespersen in a big match a couple of days ago and would have been a much better choice - or at least a better choice in the long run regarding the future of Danish tennis.

Anyway, good luck to the girls. There are four pools with three nations in each pool (draws are not made yet). In order to get promoted to a higher group, Denmark needs to win their pool AND win a promotion final against one of the other three pool winners. Difficult task with only one ranked player on the team.

I'm surprised Karina didn't do better sicne Emilie Elsvad was able to take Barbara Luz to three sets. Today's good news is that Mai Grage got a LL spot. Come on!

Martine plays doubles here in Turkey with Sweden's Donika Bashoda. Martine is the only Dane in the doubles draw (I miss Malou, who would probably have played with Mai as prep for Fed Cup)!

Brief news:

Another Danish GP tournament was played last weekend. A few weeks before, junior Emilie Francati impressively won a GP tournament defeating Fed Cup player Maria Jespersen in the SF, and pro player Anna Signe Rasmussen in the final. This time Maria Jespersen won convincingly defeating Emilie Francati in the final 64 61. Which is good and sort of justifies Maria's inclusion on the Fed Cup team. But it's also very solid by Emilie to reach two Danish 18+ finals in a row. She seems like the main Danish junior to keep an eye on at the moment.

10K Bastad, Sweden, is coming up this weekend. Unfortunately Barbat, Grage, Ejdesgaard, Jespersen and Jacobsgaard are busy with the Fed Cup, but there's still a lot of Danish women on the list.

Fed Cup play begins Wednesday 8th of May. Draws are not made yet. I'm afraid my expectations are not very high, but I'm still curious about a lot of things: who'll play the singles and how will they do; who are the preferred doubles players; is Barbat's knee OK - and Malous? GL :)

Anna Signe Rasmussen, Julie Noe, Frederikke Svarre, Cecilie Melsted, Karina Jacobsgaard, Malene Stripp. No Danes in MD. I wouldn't get my hopes up too high for the qualies. The best Danish women are in Moldova with the Fed Cup Team. Noe, Melsted, and Stripp have not played for ages, but I'm glad they're finally back. GL everyone!

We finally got a press release from the Danish Tennis Association about Fed Cup:

Barbat is injured, Martine Ditlev has replaced her. Karin Jacobsgaard was initially selected but can't go to Moldova because of her civil job. She' playing qualies at 10K Båstad, Sweden, instead. The Tennis Association also explains that Emilie Francati is having her final exams at the moment, which is a higher priority for her. Otherwise she would be with the Fed Cup Team. Good to know! Silly me, thinking they neglected her ;) Good luck in Moldova. Play well and enjoy it :)

Klara Alenas (SWE) d. Cecilie Melsted (DEN) 6-3 6-4

Frederikke Svarre was up 7-5, 4-1, 30-0! Too bad.

A big Danish clash is coming up in the qualifying finals today: Anna Signe Rasmussen vs. Julie Noe! Julie hasn't played at all since a retirement in February, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of form she's in. I've missed her; so I hope she's recovered completely. Both girls were quite impressive i QR1 but I suppose Anna must have an advantage, having played at some pro tournaments lately. Too bad they have drawn each other today but at least one of them gets into MD :)

Cecilie Melsted hasn't played since February either (I've missed her too!). She doesn't seem to be back at her best form yet. Impressive score by Karina. She and Julie deserved their q-wild cards. GL today.

Fed Cup draws

Pool A: Egypt (1), Armenia, Malta

Pool B: Morocco (2), Denmark, Namibia

Pool C: Ireland (3), Moldova, Kenya

Pool D: Norway (4), Liechtenstein, Cyprus, Madagascar

Seeded nations in parenthesis. There's no relegation since this is the bottom level at Fed Cup. In order to promote, Denmark needs to win their pool and win a play-off match against the winner of pool C or D (probably Ireland, Norway or Liechtenstein). Liechtenstein has the highest ranked player among these nations (Stephanie Vogt). No ranked players on Denmark's team. Come on girls! :)

Well done :yeah: Karina, once ranked 432, is back into the rankings! She hasn't really played a lot of tennis the last couple of years, so this is some kind of indian summer, I guess.

She won three 10K's in 2001, 2003 & 2005. Won her first Danish 18+ doubles title in 1997! And she's performing better at the moment than the other Danes playing on the pro tour (Barbat, Ditlev, Ejdesgaard, Rasmussen etc.). Up against Belgian Bonavetura (ranked 398) in the SF. I'm afraid Karina's journey ends here. Good week in any case. GL!

The Swedish Tennis Federation had a brief newsstory about Karina Jacobsgaard yesterday. Karina has played a lot of matches this week (she played qualies too) and was a very tired before yesterday's QF. She wasn't even sure she would be able to play the match! She somehow managed anyway.

Karina is an alternate for another 10K in Båstad next week, so she'll probably have to play qualies again tomorrow (assuming she loses today) unless she gets a MD WC or chooses not to sign in for the event! Lots of other Danes on the acceptance list, btw.

I'm also exicted about the Fed Cup match today :cheer:

I accidentally stumbled across an old Danish U12 ranking list from 2002. It made for an interesting retrospective read.

Danish U12 rankings, girls, 08/08/2002

1 Caroline Wozniacki Farum 453,57 18 1990
2 Malou Ejdesgaard KB 40,45 23 1991

6 Mette Dahl Lyngby 14,04 22 1990
7 Ida Buchwald Gentofte 13,75 17 1990
8 Kathrine Lund Hansen KB 13,30 21 1991
9 Victoria Rode Bager HRT 12,05 17 1991
10 Bine M. Lind Kolding 11,99 21 1990
11 Karen Barbat OB 10,31 12 1992
12 Julie Warnøe Nielsen HIK 9,41 21 1992
13 Sofie-Amalie Smidt-Nielsen Køge 9,25 15 1990

20 Maria Lind Taarbæk 5,66 15 1991
21 Maria Jespersen Helsingør 5,30 15 1991

Caroline was obviously in a league of her own. Seems like 1990-92 were good years for Danish tennis, as many of Denmark's present pros and Fed Cup players are on this list (Caroline, Malou, Karen Barbat, Maria Jespersen). Karen Barbat was still a U10 player, but was already quite good. This list sort of suggests that you have to be top 20 or so already at age of 10-12 in order to become an elite player but Mai Grage is an interesting exception. She's born 1992 but wasn't ranked at all this early in her career. It wasn't until she became a U14 player that she really started to climb in the rankings and eventually emerged as perhaps the biggest Danish talent since Caroline.

A few of these girls became solid U14, U16, and U18 players, but half of the girls have vanishesd completely from tennis sometimes in their teens. The girl ranked #12 is my avatar, btw.

I'm not so sure about the looks though. Never thought of that. But I'm aware my avatar has puzzled quite a few posters here on TF. I've got some questions about it in private messages, and I've also replied regarding this a couple of times in threads (also on GM). Mystery solved :)

Danish Championships 2013 has started!

You can find all about the event at the tournament facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/DM.Helsingor) including OOP (site is in Danish). I assume lots of pictures will be posted during the week. And there will be live streaming Thursday and Friday (QF and SF)! I'm not sure about the quality, and it's probably only from one court.

Favorites for the singles event: (1) Maria Jespersen, (2) Mai Grage & (WC) Malou Ejdesgaard. Karen Barbat is resting after winning two 10K singles titles and suffering from another knee injury. Other notable girls missed this week: Martine Ditlev, Emilie Francati, Simone Alipieva. Could still be a great week.

Danish Championships 2013

(1) Maria Jespersen d. Elisabeth Nørgaard 60 60
(Q) Stefanie Jolak d. Laura Gaarde Andersen 61 63
Cecilie Melsted d. (Q) Ida Krause 76(3) 60
(6) Frederikke Svarre d. Anna Riisgaard 62 61

(4) Ulrikke Høyer d. (Q) Ditte Marie Egelund 61 60
Sofie Bjerringgaard d. (Q) Mariah Sommer 60 61
Julie Noe d. Jessica Toluie 61 64
(7) Malene Stripp d. Ella Hedeboe 62 61

Kathrine Berge d. Emilie K.S. Hansen 60 61
Frederikke Uhrskov Støchkel d. Sofie Skovbo Jensen 26 62 63
(3) Anna Signe Rasmussen d. (wc) Malou Ejdesgaard 75 46 61

Anne Gylling d. (8) Emilie Elsvad 61 63
(Q) Emma Marie Jensen d. (Q) Sofie Boers 63 62
(Q) Anna Marie Møller d. Josephine Visler 76(5) 36 76(10)
(2) Mai Grage d. (Q) Rebekka Hillingsø 61 60

No big upsets apart from Malou's defeat perhaps.
Only seeded player to lose in R1 was (8) Emilie Elsvad.
Rønholt hasn't been near her best for 6 months or so. Seems to struggle. Won't be a match for Anna Signe Ras.
Grages quarter (with 4 qualifiers!) is a cakewalk.
The 2nd quarter seems like the most even. Julie Noe is probably the favourite although unseeded.
Ida Krause (U14 player) was 2-0 against Cecilie Melsted in 2013 but Cecilie won yesterday when it mattered the most.

Anyway, Cecilie seems over the hill (I hope not, but it seems like it). She was probably the most talented junior in the generation after Barbat and Grage, and she's still probably the only girl younger than Mai Grage that has ever beaten Mai in Denmark (in a GP Masters final at that!). She was a Danish Championship finalist as a 15 yo; has won more junior championship titles than anyone in DK. WTA debut (qualies) at 15 years of age. Always very solid at 12-16 years of age against anyone. Once ranked #4 or 5 in Denmark. Now ranked #41!

Danish Championships 2013

(1) Maria Jespersen d. (Q) Stefanie Jolak 60 60
(6) Frederikke Svarre d. Cecilie Melsted 36 76(3) 64

(4) Ulrikke Høyer d. Sofie Bjerringgaard d. 63 61
Julie Noe d. (7) Malene Stripp 6-6 ret.

(5) Emma Rønholt d. Kathrine Berge 62 61
(3) Anna Signe Rasmussen d. Frederikke Uhrskov Støchkel 63 60

Anne Gylling d. (Q) Emma Marie Jensen 63 63
(2) Mai Grage d. (Q) Anna Marie Møller 60 60

Mai Grage against two U14 qualifiers in the first two rounds :help:
Høyer vs Noe is an epic clash. Doubles partners, same age. Julie won 62 63 at U18 Championships a month ago.
Rønholt vs Rasmussen will be another big clash. Amazingly, 15 year old Rønholt is leading 3-0 H2H the last 52 weeks! I know I said Anna would win, and I still think she will. But I'd like to see the youngsters break through, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for Emma.
It hurts seeing Melsted struggling, but I'm glad Svarre is doing so well. She's had a really rare development, always progressing at a really slow rate. But constantly improving. Well done :yeah:
Maria Jespersen seems heading for the final (against Mai). Solid work.
Malene Stripp
Well done by Sofie Bjerringgaard (U14) to reach 2nd round again (she also did that at the indoor championships).

Aug 7th, 2013, 09:41 PM
Livestream from the Danish Championships should begin tomorrow at 13:30 CET. I'm not sure about the quality or how many courts. Probably only Center Court (beginning with a men's QF, followed by Mai Grage vs Anne Gylling). A heavy downpour is expected tomorrow so delays are possible!

Singles finals will be streamed Saturday in cooperation with DR (Denmark's Radio). This will probably be a better production, and Jens Anker Andersen will be one of the commentators. He's coaching some of the junior girls from Gentofte, like Emilie Francati, Emma Rønholt, Helena Francati, and Rebekka Hillingsø, so this could be quite interesting for the Danes.

Aug 8th, 2013, 01:50 PM
The livestream (http://dmtennisstream.dk/) is amazing quality (it's also possible to follow the livestream on facebook. There's a link to fb too)!

A men's QF now (Ørnø vs Shabib). Mai Grage vs Anne Gylling coming up. I'd prefer one of the other three quarterfinals though: Jespersen vs Svarre, Høyer vs Noe, or Rønholt vs Rasmussen. Grage vs Gylling is the least interesting on paper. Grage is probably too good. But I'm glad the streaming works - and in such an excellent quality!

Aug 8th, 2013, 08:15 PM
Play suspended because of heavy rain (as expected). Schedule will be pushed one day, so finals will be played Sunday. I don't know if the streaming of the finals will be affected.

Only one of the women's quarterfinal started today: Noe leads Høyer 6-3 0-0

Danish Championships 2013

(1) Maria Jespersen d. Julie Noe 36 62 62
(2) Mai Grage d. (5) Emma Rønholt 60 75

I saw most of Maria vs. Julie on the livestream (the entire match is online now at the facebook link, btw.). Good effort by Julie Noe, Maria was a huge favourite here. Nice comeback by Maria.

I didn't see Mai vs Emma, but I assume the 1st set was a bit closer than the scoreline suggests. The two SF started simultaneusly and we could just see a bit of Mai vs Emma at the edge of the picture when some camera angles were used. Maria & Julie were well into their 7th game before the 1st set of Mai vs Emma was over, and there were some deuces in the Maria/Julie SF.

Anyway, the 2nd set is a very good result by Emma. Mai seems to be in exceptional form at the moment (having lost only 2 games in her previous 7 sets before today's 2nd set). Emma is 15 yo and should be able to come closer the next couple of years if she keeps progressing.

Emma and Julie
Maria and Mai :yeah:

What a great final, though!! :cheer: GL to both!! When is the doubles final?

Aug 10th, 2013, 07:03 PM
Sunday's finals will be streamed here:

11:00 CET Women's single final Maria Jespersen vs Mai Grage
Followed by Men's single final
Not before 14:00 CET Women's double final Grage/Ejdesgaard vs Jespersen/Rønholt
Followed by Men's double final

Please note: It's possible that the doubles matches won't be streamed!
Jens A. Andersen, coach of Francati, Rønholt, Hillingsø and others will co-comment.

In the Danish Club Division, the Semis are this Saturday!! :bounce: The final and bronze medal match is Sunday!

The 1st semi is LYNGBY H vs HELSINGØR.
The 2nd semi is KB H vs ÅRHUS 1900 H.

Gotta cheer for KB, though!! :cheer:

Sep 4th, 2013, 07:16 AM
That's the men's semis.

The wome's semifinals are:

KB vs Hvidovre
Gentofte vs Birkerød

KB is a huge favourite against Hvidovre. The other semi, Birkerød (with Karen Barbat, Anna Signe Rasmussen and others) vs Gentofte (Maria Jespersen, Emilie Francati, Emma Rønholt) could go any way. I guess it depends on whether Emma and Emilie will be back from Cyprus Saturday (I hope not!).

Sep 5th, 2013, 03:47 AM
Oops! :oh:

Sep 8th, 2013, 06:19 AM
Results from the team semifinals Saturday September 7:

KB d. Hvidovre 4-0
Mai Grage d. Natasha Nielsen 61 61
Karina Jacobsgaard d. Sille Tranberg 61 61
Malou Ejdesgaard d. Emma Tranberg 61 63
Emilie Elsvad - Emilie K.S. Hansen 60 60

Birkerød d. Gentofte 4-1
Karen Barbat d. Maria Jespersen 67(4) 62 [10-5]
Anna Signe Rasmussen lost to Emma Rønholt 36 64 [8-10]
Anne Theil Gylling d. Sisse Folmø 36 76(5) [10-5]
Malene Stripp d. Ella Hedeboe 62 64
Rasmussen/Barbat d. Dyrberg/Jespersen 61 36 [10-6]

KB vs Hvidovre went as expected. Birkerød vs Gentofte was in fact quite close with lots of matchtiebreaks. Gentofte missed Emilie Francati, who was playing in Cyprus. But Emma Rønholt got back to Denmark in due time and got her 5th straight win over Rasmussen. Impressive.

Also nice to see that Eva Dyrberg is still playing although she quitted pro tennis more than 10 years ago. She is one of Denmark's best female players ever, and was ranked #77 @WTA at her peak. She won Wimbledon doubles as a junior, and the US Open doubles with Clijsters (juniors)! She began studying medicine immediately when she quitted pro tennis early 2003 (or perhaps even before when she was still a pro player?). She is now a medical doctor.

Almost all the gold-winning participants from Team KB are playing a 10K in Greece (http://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/tournaments/women's-tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100029904) 23 September - 29 September 2013!

Emilie Elsvad, Ulrikke Høyer, Julie Noe, Malou Ejdesgaard, and Karina Jacobsgaard are on the acceptance list. Only Mai Grage is missing.

Here are some photos from last weekend when KB won the women's Team championship (from tennis.dk):

Pretty good by the Danes (Team KB). Qualifying finals today (GL!). Karina Jacobsgaard has a direct MD entry (if she plays).

Karen Barbat did qualify for the masters but chose to play Team tennis in Sweden instead. Emilie Francati only played three of the 9 tournaments in the GP series but won one of those and was RU at another tournament. She also qualified for the Masters - as did Anna Signe Rasmussen. I don't know why they skipped it. Therefore the level at the 2013 Masters was a bit sub par compared to the last couple of years. Well done by Mai :yeah:

Good week for Martine in doubles. She was on the Antalya acceptance list next week, but she has withdrawn. Reaching the doubles SF in Egypt probably made it impossleble to be in Antalya in time for the qualies.

Andrianjafitrimo had a busy day today. She had to finish a postponed singles match from yesterday. Then another singles match, and finally this doubles match with Martine.

Martine Ditlev gave a walkover in the Q final in 10K Antalya. I hope she's OK.

Anna Signe Rasmussen lost 64 61 in the Q final in 10K Stockholm.

Karen Barbat qalified in Tallin (EST) 15K. And she won R1 MD against (6)Ana Vrljic (CRO) 61 62! Well done.

Karen got another win today beating Viktoriya Tomova (BUL) 63 67(9) 61!! :yeah: Nice job, Karen!! She has a tough QF match against (1)Timea Bacsinszky (SUI). GL Karen!! :cheer:

Feb 12th, 2014, 08:40 PM
Really good wins by Karen. Vrljic is WTA #220, and Tomova is #402. The Norwegian Fec Cup coach said a week ago that Karen played like a top 100 player (source: tennis.no). I'm not sure if he was honest (maybe he said that more as an excuse/explanation to Melanie Stokke's loss). But it really seems like Karen is in good form at the moment. I don't expect another win though. Tough QF. GL!

Karen lost a tough one to Bacsinszky, 64 36 16. But it seems that Karen is playing very well, lately. Excited to see what is to come for her!! :) Karen is playing the 10k in Helsingborg, Sweden next week. :cheer:

Feb 20th, 2014, 11:28 AM
Karen won 61 61!

Olga Ianchuk won the 10K Stockholm last week (60 60 in the final)! Really good result by Karen. GL in the SF - probably against Susanne Celik (SWE), who's leading 4-0 in the 3rd set in her QF right now.

Feb 20th, 2014, 07:46 PM
Karen's opponent in the SF will be (2)Jasmine Tinjic (BIH). Celik blew a 4-0 lead losing 6 games in a row. Tough loss for Celik, and a very tough SF coming up for Karen...

Danish Indoor Championships 2014, 28 Feb - 08 Mar

Top 8 seeds:
1 Karen Barbat
2 Karina I. Jacobsgaard
3 Mai Grage
4 Ulrikke Høyer
5 Emma Rønholt
6 Anna Signe Rasmussen
7 Emilie Elsvad
8 Malene Stripp

Notable players missing are Emilie Francati, Julie Noe, Martine Ditlev (who hasn't played in Denmark for more than a year) & Malou Ejdesgaard (and obviously Wozniancki). Karen has been in excellent form lately and is a huge favourite to win the title. Julie Noe seems to be playing a G1 junior ITF in Thailand instead. I have no idea what Emilie Francati is doing (she's not on the G1 Thailand acceptance list).

wow malou not playing at all, even there. its sad and disappointing =(

Feb 23rd, 2014, 10:05 PM
^It looks like Malou's playing days (at least professionally) are over...

Feb 25th, 2014, 09:40 PM
^ It certainly looks that way. Notice also that Malou's own club KB is hosting the tournament! I would at least expect her to play this tournament if any. I miss Malou...

Maria Jespersen is also missing on the acceptance list btw.
I'm looking forward to the main draw though. Mai Grage & Barbat could end up in the same half, which would be brutal. But we may also see "new" players having a great run now that Maria, Julie and Emilie aren't playing.

Mar 3rd, 2014, 09:11 AM
Barbat has withdrawn from the tournament. She's playing 25K Preston this week instead.

Main draw is out. Twins Emma and Sille Tranberg drew each other in R1! But there seems to be many interesting matches coming up.

Mar 3rd, 2014, 06:38 PM
$25,000 Preston, GBR

Karen Barbat (DEN) d. (9)Myrtille Georges (FRA) 62 63

WD! Barbat is #583; Georges is #297. Another seeded player awaits in QR2, (8)Tereza Martincova (CZE).
