View Full Version : Who do you wanna see? Supermodels from the 90s or no-name-18-year-olds?

Do you like to see the >>old<< Super models from the Super model era of the 80s and early 90s or new faces in adds?

Cindy Crawford (46), Christy Turlington (43), Claudia Schiffer (41), Naomi Campbell (41), Linda Evangelista (46), Tatjana Patitz (45) & Helena Christenson (43) are all in their 40ties but still working as models and getting big deals. Probably better ones than the young models :worship:

Due to the demographic change, fotoshop & botox all of them can compete with today's topmodels like Doutzen Kroes (27) & Co.

They still got their >>names<< whereas models in the 21st century are not as popular like the 90's models who used to be Super stars.

These days big companies prefer to advertise with Hollywoodstars, music stars or Anna Kournikova :haha:

Who do you like to see in your favorite campaigns?

Claudia Schiffer in GUESS campain now and then (back in the 80s and the new one from 2012 - on the right)

Definitely the old school models. They were/are superstars and were actually beautiful unlike the pale, gaunt, alien looking things walking the runway and gracing the fashion campains these days.

I feel bad for the 40+ year old models even though they get paid well. At their age they should be able to live a little, not work out even hard to try and defy gravity and have to look after their faces even more rigorously.

It highly depends to whom you're making reference to -- in the crop of 'unknown models' there are lots who are super-popular, I'll not use Karlie Kloss 'cuz first she's American in the US, second she also does all these VS crappy stuff too which considerably increases her star power -- but IDK girls like Jac, Vilkeviciute etc. do have a good share of popularity in the fashion underground world.

Of the up-coming models only Kate King and Groeneveld have potential to be super-stars but in different areas, Kate has that incredible sex-appeal when I see certain of her street-styles = VS which can/would/might skyrocket her, Daphné has a uniqueness for the underground, the rest (majority) are boring, uniform and plain (Skriver for example, I barely can remember the new comers names anyways so many they are) -- of the models now considered as 'has been' in the industry, Vlada Roslyakova, Lily D. or Dziahileva were quite stars too, ok, they weren't really 18 then but still.

To the question well the system works on mass consummation the problem is there's no unique model anymore it's almost all the same faces considering the proportion of girls they send in there thus the probability of having numerous and too much look alikes.

They should also stop brainstorming the High Fashion runways with certain of these useless commercial Victoria's Secret models when their inspiration is low -- unless for Candice Swanpoel I really like with Miranda Kerr so as Rosie H. Witheley. Chanel Iman sucks very strong as a HF model, her Editorials easily one of the worst in the past decade but as a woman she's breathtakingly hot and very beautiful, a dream girlfriend -- probably I'll ask her out one day we'll see. ;)

There were just a number of style, social and other factors that all came together in the late '80s and '90s to create the era of the supermodel--it really was an exceptional time when models were as famous as actresses. We've shifted back toward the more traditional 20th century approach of looking to Hollywood for our glamor.

On the other hand, it is nice to see some companies realizing you don't have to be 18 or 19 to be attractive.

But I don't think you're going to see models who have the same kind of high profile as before, no matter how attractive they are, at least not in the near future.

Then again, I'd take a sturdy lass like Lena D, Jo-La or Andi over a model any day anyway.

There is a reason for that.

The fashion industry doesn't wany big name stars demanding megabucks. They would rather the girls were anonymous and thus interchangeable, that way they can pay less.
Also, it's a fickle and ever-changing industry that always demands the newest and freshest.

I would rather see a new face every five minutes so I'll go with the no-name 18 year olds.

And the list goes on... Their weight was perfect (they were a bit thinner than the ones in the 90's but they were still perfectly healthy and didn't look skinny), they had personality, etc. Many models now are hideous and skinny, they look like Skeletor's daughters.

She still looks better than 95% of British women in that pic. I mean you clearly see in that photo that she's a beautiful woman caught in a bad moment. I also remember lots of people talking shit about a bad pic of Heidi Klum without make-up

http://www.topsocialite.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/heidi-klum-nomakeup.jpg

She then appeared in some kind of event or party or whatever without make-up and she was GORGEOUS.

Oh please. Kate Moss is not overrated, everyone talked about how disgusting and horribly aged she was for like 5 years. A photo where she's tired, wearing no makeup and probably hadn't had her 4-monthly fillers done is not an accurate representation.

She's extremely hot for a 38 year old, see my photos.

I don't think many of these women who have been around for a while show any more human beauty to me than the Venus de Milo or Michelangelo's David in Florence. Many of them just don't have a presence or immediacy to me, in these latest shoots they feel so remote.

I don't like these new sticks either. So I don't know - I think as a culture we've lost track of where beauty is to be found. In the editing room, or in the world and people around us?
