Dream run :oh:
Actually great tournament for Oudin. I think she didn't win two matches in a row for two years or something like that.
GS wonder girl is back!!! :woohoo:

Not a bad scoreline, considering. AMG is ranked 27 and Mel put up a tough fight in the first set, won the second, but ran out of steam in the third. Keep building on this, Mel!

In relative terms this was a very good week for Mel. Things are looking up at last. :)

But there was this early in the third:

@BenRothenberg Tale end of Anabel Medina Garrigues berating chair ump about non-overrule. Went on for a while, threw off Oudin. http://yfrog.us/f27o8qz (http://t.co/24pVU5xn)

In all seriousness, AMG is probably still top-20 level on clay, so this is actually a very respectable scoreline for Oudin

Mel played a good match against a tough opponent, something to build on.

Good luck to AMG going forward.

Nobody outmoonballs AMG!

Seriously, though, it has been some good competition from Mel. Nice to see that she hasn't given up, even some unkind sorts thing she should.

Wow if Mel actually won that first set who knows what could have happened. Glad to see she had some success here because this has summed up her last two years of tennis:
It's one of the sadder scenes on the tennis court:

Talked to a very happy Melanie Oudin. Finally feels like she's starting over. New coaches, now training in NY. Playing 3 50ks next.

Per Melanie Oudin, USTA will award 2012 RG women's WC based on cumulative results from three green clay 50ks. No playoff this year.

Not a bad week for Oudin really. It was so good I blogged about her

Didn't AMG beat Venus here one time?

This would be a somewhat acceptable result when she was playing well, to be honest. Nobody's saying a 6-0 deciding set is good, but she went toe to toe with a seeded claycourt specialist for 2 sets and maybe could have won. She'd been barely winning GAMES in ITF's and qualified here beating 2 decent opponents. Definitely an upside.

Keep going Mel! Rock those 50k's.

She looks really strong in this pic. Playing 50k's now is the right thing. Has to get her ranking up and her confidence

Like it matters, didn't Radwanska get bageled in a set, just a few weeks ago? Put it into perspective, AMG is ranked about 275 places above Mel, so pushing AMG in the first, and taking the second set is an accomplishmnet for her. Especially considering AMG is a Spaniard and clay is her best surface.

Grasping...putting Oudin in the same sentence with Radwanska???. Radwanska lost the first set to the # 1 player in the world 6-0. Not the third and deciding set with everything on the line.

While you're at it, why not put Melanie in the same sentence with Chris Evert?

Great week for Oudin, although 12 points is a poor reward for it, that is what she would get for winning a $10k ITF, which is a sad reflection of her ranking reality - she will only limp back to around 296 in the world with this performance.

Posters are right to mention the $50k ITFs, this is where Melanie needs to earn the points to move back up. It will be very difficult for her to get into Roland Garros qualifying but with a bit more time, Wimbledon qualies is a possibility if this turns into a bit of a Melanie streak.

Anabel - not a good start to the clay season, as her subsequent loss to Rodionova underlined. Still, red clay is more important really....
