2012 Miami PM is career 40th final for famous Russian Superstar, so its perfect moment to make serious check-point:

Two years ago when she played (and won) careers #30 final in Strasbourg her records in finals is amazing 22-8 (almost 75%), very close to all times greatests percentages in tennis history (if we count only "serious" ATP and WTA players which reach at least one GS final). In the meantime something dramatic changed with hers mental side in finals, so despite fact that Maria in last 8 months reach more than ever big finals in such short period (she reach 4 finals out of last 6 mandatory events - but lose all 4 in straight sets), she lose 8 out of last 10 careers finals with also pathetic 5-17 sets record!

So what is yours explanation - why some proven champion which used to play abot 110% of hers abilities in last two years have so big problems to show at least 70% of hers talent in final round!?

Maybe you should consider who she played against - and even more, the time she played them - in those last 2-8 finals.

Gosh... Are you a fan of Maria Sharapova, as you seem to put so much effort in counting those beans? She got very badly injured, had a career-changing operation, and her confidence is suffering as a result, so her results - particularly in the finals, when the stakes are really high - will reflect this, hardly surprising.

That's what injuries can do to you, mess up your mind.

I don't think that Pova chokes in final matches - she usually had a cakewalk, but fortunately in finals her opponents just were much better.
But she was lucky to play against her pigeons couple of times (Stosur and Jankovic) and managed to win

she won 3 of the first 4 finals she played after the injury so it hardly explains why she went on to lose most of the following ones

Yeah, against Ardvisson and Barrois
Another thing is, 2011: 4 finals in the whole year; 2012: 4 finals by March. I don't think it's so bad. :shrugs:

That's what injuries can do to you, mess up your mind. No! Thanks to injuries Maria for example not reach any mandatory final for more than three years between february of 2008 and april of 2011... but right now she is #2 in the world and only in last 8 months she reach 4 (out of last 6) mandatory finals! Her level of play is very high again since last season, so shoulder injury problems are solved - but in finals she simple sucks!

she usually had a cakewalk, but fortunately in finals her opponents just were much better. So You thinking that player which in career first 4 GS finals in 3 cases beat in straight sets former #1 players Serena, Henin and Ivanovic, and in others big finals also beat several others former #1 (Clijsters, Davenport, Jankovic), but now have big problems to win single set in finals - have such record because in career first 30 finals hers opponents are so weak, but in last 10 its all "real-deal"!? You are just wrong about this.
