If I was a director to holding a new WTA tournament..the first thing I would seriously want to do is meet the directors of this tournament and find out what their secret is! Even before this tournament..the previous ones held indoors (non clay) and Filderstadt also attracted star studded fields - take 98 for instance - Hingis, Kournikova, Serena, Novotna, Sanchez Vicario, Pierce, Venus, Martinez, Davenport, Mary Joe Fernandez etc

it is simple they are sponsored by porsche. top 8 seeds get a porsche to drive for the week. all players get gifts left in their hotel from porsche. players are treated like royalty. it is an expensive thing to do but porsche must want to do it.

Basically, Porsche pays for everything, as was stated.
And the WTA wants to force the tournament to up their prize money, but won't actually impose any sanctions when they don't.

No, that's the problem. The money is definitely there and despite the general lack of interest in women's tennis in Germany the event sells very well as well. When I ordered my tickets in early January the choice of seats was already rather limited.

There isn't really any room to expand the facilities though, they already use the neighboring Schleyer-Halle for the second court. I guess it will always keep the status it has now.

Why would Stuttgart aim to become a Mandatory? For 25% of the prize money and 50% of the ranking points they get the same quality of field. Nobody knows what side business they do with the players, but I doubt it costs an extra 1.5 million dollars.

What the heck is your problem?

Yes, there is a general lack of interest in women's tennis in Germany, especially in the media. Petkovic's final in Bejing hardly even made the news sites, aside from the slams pretty much nothing gets covered in mainstream news here and the Berlin tournament is dead because no one wants to sponsor women's tennis here (aside from Porsche).

As such it is pretty surprising to me that the tournament has no big problems selling tickets. Take Copenhagen as comparison, they have a player who's all over the media and still they have trouble selling out their little venue.

Yeah, lots of room... but that doesn't do any good for an indoor tournament, does it? What are they supposed to do? Build temporary arenas on the free space? Not going to happen....

Huh? Stuttgart is the worst chance for points during the whole year. You get 470 for winning an event, that matches top 20 players against each other in the first round. It´s actually smart scheduling to avoid this event. You are much better off resting and playing Brussels later.

I can't wait for some really random 1st round match like Sarin vs Vika.:hearts:
Or Li/Stosur vs Schiavone.:lick:

I can recall Mauresmo vs Dementieva some years ago as a 1R-er here. :sobbing:

 to myself then. Thank you!

And for Vikapower - the top 8 is seeded, so this is actually the only tournament where we could have a match between top 10 players in the 1st round. And this would have been quite a butt-kicking match between the no.1 seed and the highest unseeded player and they would still be top 10 players.Or some quite close according to the rankings and match-ups meetings between the one I mentioned.
In addition, as you said Vika owns Sarin.:worship:

yes but Radwanska is sure to rise to #3 in 2 weeks :oh:

Many posters here think Maria played sub-par tennis on her way to those finals and was on the ropes many times in 3 set matches ... and the same thing for Aga :secret:

for the WTA it would look bad if their #2 and #3 lost their 1st match in Stuttgart ... so of course the best way to prevent that is to give them BYE, then Q v Q ... on the other hand, Wozniacki has to face Jankovic 1R and Kerber 2R ... Na has to face Safarova 1R, Hantuchova / Cibulkova 2R ... and Sam has to face Peng 1R, Goerges 2R

P700 = Premier 700 :scratch:

Then subtract those 120 points and be happy how dramatically different Martha's and Agatha's rankings are in that imaginary list.

I'm not sure she'll need that to happen. Match up or no, I'm pretty sure an in-form Sam wouldn't have been high on Maria's list of preferred opponents in just her second match on clay this year. I think Sam has a slight edge in this one.

As if it matters.
Ludmilla is back and in fiery KROTT!!! winner hitting form, and will simply bash her opponents off court.
On the other side, Woosniaki also looks like she is shaking off her slump and should be able to roll through easily.

Despite their unexpected success last year I predict both Sharapova and Li will have a losing record on clay.

The only mystery quantity is Azarenka will have to see if she is ready to step up and be an old school #1 or will she be content with a flukey super dominant three months and check out for the rest of the year

Of course its Maria's fault. How dare she be the World No.2 ? and deserve all those privileges as set by the WTA her  ?? :shout: Totally all the qualifiers should get a R1 bye as well? And since you are very pressed about it, Li Na should also be made a mandatory player for a Bye in 1st RND, so she gets some points at least  , and you finally shut the F up?!
