I mean of course they don't copy their lyrics but still, the copy the beat that makes their songs famous  Everyone remembers Beyoncé's 'Crazy in Love' as TOOOOO TOOOROOOOOOOOOTOOOOTOOOOROOOOTOOOO. Well guess what:

Totally. Just told Sammo that. No biggie. He/she never heard the actual term, I suppose. Not a crime. :)

lol it means u take a part of an earlier song and make it a part of yours, of course u need to ask permission for that to the artist/record company, or you get in trouble;)
Like the famous Jennifer Lopez "Get Right" and Usher "Ride", J.Lo took a part of that song without notifying Usher and she was served, but that was like 6 years ago (I dunno if she did it on purpose or with no intention cuz get this, that song from Usher is actually unreleased, but they happen to have the same producer who was pretty popular back then but nowhere to find now Rich Harrison). Didn't know what happened next, didn't really followed that news:lol:

This method is actually quite common used by rap/hip-hop producer.A few that I can think of:
b5NXlIlygts
Ja Rule featuring Bobbi Brown "Thug Lovin'", the course sampled the one and only Stevie Wonder's "Knock Me Off My Feet"
UwSuPXMHhaE
Janet has always been a great sampler, for example
AnyqVRijCNw
"Got Till It's Gone" sampled Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi"
94bdMSCdw20
And then
ugRN1T6Cl-M
"Son of a Gun" (man how I love this song) sampled Carly Simon's "You're So Vain"
b6UAYGxiRwU
What's so interesting with Janet Jackson is when she sampled someone's old song, she always invites them to be part of it. It's the case with the 2 songs I mentioned above:lol:

Pretty sure she sampled the song for Heartbreaker also.
I wonder if we'd still like a lot of these dance songs if it had original music as opposed to a sample.

anyways I think it's ok if u sample because it shows you've been inspired by certain people, but at least don't make it blatantly obvious  I think that majority of artists who sample only do it for a couple of songs at most though.
edit: kanye west  how can he be labelled as a song writer

Really sad that it takes other songs to compose a lot of these chicks' tracks. But I don't put all the blame on them. Their producers encourage sampling (an indication of how sucky the industry has been for years).

Surely everyone knows about sampling?
I thought this thread was about songs that dont sample another track but the general makeup of the song seems like a copy.
Like how Born This Way by Gaga is very similar to Express Yourself by Madonna yet doesn't sample it.

Beyonce and Jay-z's "Bonnie and Clyde 03" sampled Tupac's song "me and my girlfriend". A bit annoying to see Jay-Z making money off Tupac since they were dissing each other before Pac died.

talking about that, making huge amount of money from a sample after someone's death
