View Full Version : WWW Miami QF: [1] Azarenka vs. [7] Bartoli

After Azarenka's mess of a match today, this could go either way. Vika could step up and play a very good match after escaping her 4th round, or Marion could keep up the good form she showed against Kirilenko.

H2H is 8-2 (7-1 if you take off retirements) Vika
Every match has either been 3 sets or had a 7-5, 7-6 set bar 1.

Most likely Vika, but Marion has more of a chance than usual to scrape a win.

Hm. Marion is a headcase, so I'll go with Vika.

If Vika shows up the way she did today, I think Marion will win because she is one of the best players mentality. Vika shows up the way she has been playing all yar I think she will win. So who knows

In 2011 Vika played tight three setters in all 3 openning matches in Miami (vs players out of TOP20), but in QF, SF and Final she trashed such players in easy two sets like Clijsters, Zvonareva and Sharapova.

Miami is last place in world where Bartoli have chance to improve hers so bad h2h record vs Azarenka IMO.

Vika, Marion is not a tough opponent for her most of the time, don't know why it would be different this time. She recovered well from that tense match against Barthel, so why not now?

Vika in straight sets. Not sure if Bartoli can win more than 6 games against a slanted (after her near loss) Azarenka.

For the first and probable last time I'll vote against Victoria --

Today's match pretty a shocker ; she herself knew she should probably have never won this match. She won and could have double effects, either she comes stronger or comes like she did today again.

The problem of dominating is that players comes like 500%, if they have the power shot-making skills :tape: and Victoria just didn't seem to be ready at all, no quick tactical/strategical adjustments when she saw she was taking water from everywhere, just hopes. Like as if Cibulkova totally freezed her. :tape:

Marion is the type of player who has the same mentality -- she'll play her game.

For my personal well being, Vika looses, end with this streak, move on.

I think Vika will win this in 2. She played her stinker and still won.
She'll be more focused for the next match

Either Marion in 2, or Vika in 3

I had the same thought. A lot of Domi's errors near the end may have been coming from fatigue.

The first syllable of that last word may be Bratoli's undoing.

oh yeah i guess

Interesting to hear Marion on radio just after her win yesterday. She knows what she has to do vs Vika, especially to serve like she did vs Makiri. In Stanford 2010, Marion led by 6-3 3-1 before to fall down.

The courts are playing like glue, and Marion doesn't hit that hard to start with. I can't see her hitting through PID. Their close matches were on grass and supra-quick Stanford.

Mehriunn Bartowlee (as Anglos like to call her) v 2.0 is basically a high % power grinder who doesn't even try to hit through anyone, but outlast them in flat CC rallies. Not the sort of game likely to pose Toria any trouble, and of course Bartowlee, heavily stomping around the court in her inimitable flat footed way, remains as easy to wrongfoot by players who can shift the direction of the ball as ever.

Toria seemed to have flatlined during the early stages of the Scrubulkova match, with nothing left in the tank both physically and mentally. But then managed to regain focus and use the court's comical slowness to her advantage, even though she still couldn't get any kind of pace on the ball.

The only way Toria is losing this is if she decides it's time to tank. Which I'm not sure she didn't consider doing during the Scrubulkova match only to later change her mind when she scoreline began to look too humiliating.

I am surprised how close this poll is. I do agree that Vika is due for a loss. Last match may be an indication that she is mentally tired, but who knows when she will actually lose. Based on probability Vika should win, but Marion obviously has a decent shot.
