Routine enough win. Makarova next

Six of her seven double faults were in the first set. I'm not too worried about her serve as long as she keeps adjusting it well.

Doesn't sound like she played fantastic, but it's hard to argue that much with a 6-4 6-2 scoreline  Doublefaults undoubtedly a worry though, after holding them down so well all year up until this tournament.

I think Makarova might give her a tougher match than the AO, possibly a 3-setter, but Maria should definitely end up winning it no matter how long it takes to get there.... she's going to have to step it up if she gets Li in the QFs though.

It's a concern that her DF spell seems to be back, but it's still a win I guess..

Can't see her losing to Makarova, although I can see a Sharapova Special.

Oh and on the DF apparently they've been pretty high among most of the players so far...

It`s was alright performance from Maria. She should`ve won more easily if not for the DFs and mini errorfest late in the first set. Still i`m pleased that she won it in straight sets. :clap2:

It's no more than a 50/50 proposition that Li can get by Sabine.

Good enough scoreline I guess .

Play better in your next match. I want another Serena-Maria match so bad here. I don't know why but I think the tour needs another encounter like that in Miami.

Horrendous match. Sloane had no strategy and her court positioning was absolutely horrific. She has the tools to be successful, she just no idea how to use them. :o

Only positive for Maria was that her 1st serve was working well.

Oh God, she'd get either Lisicki or Li in the QFs? :o

I'll laugh a little if Sharapova gets a draw like Makarova/Lisicki/Stosur and then Vika again in the final.

Would Makarova and Lisicki become her bitches (i.e. +5 h2h differential) if she beats them?

And I want 10 victories over the Mugstralian.

Not sure about Makarova, but it would be only her 4th win over Lisicki.

And yes, much as I like Sam, Maria BADLY needs to make amends for that YEC defeat :tape:

I don't know what's happening in Miami but she hits more dfs than she did since the beginning of the year. Maybe she's trying to go for more on that second serve, maybe she thinks it's the way she'll be able to beat Vika and other top players. If you take away the DFs she would have won 8 pts out of 12 on her second serve, that's not bad at all lol. Hopefully she'll be able to control more those serves tho.

Sloane won 6 games off Martha, yet Martha can barely scrape out 5 against Vika? LMAO...Martha, please your brain injury is very worrying and once again Davenport never misses a chance to throw some shade...LOL...."Is Vika in Maria's head?"...Davenport: "Oh, absolutely," followed by a shady laugh...This Davenport is just too good...LMAO

Anyways I forgot to ask, does anyone have stats?

Davenport actually tends to overpraise Maria, she always has. She likes Maria a lot.

Davenport knows what she is talking about and honestly I would be worried if Vika wasn't in Maria's head after losing badly to her in 2 big finals just this year. She is in Maria's head and Maria will do everything to beat her, that's how it works with Pova and all best players.

What's up with her serve again? She seemed to be getting it under control, but now the double faults are back again. Apart from serve, it seems like it was a routine win for her.
