Welcome to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! This is the first week of the year to have only International events, with this one and the one in Acapulco, Mexico. With the prestigious BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, USA and this hard court event as a warm-up, many players have been drawn to this southeast Asian city. The top seeds are Aussies Casey Dellacqua and Jarmila Gajdošová while the the rest of the draw includes many interesting Asian teams, such as young meeting old with Taiwanese Hao-Ching Chan partnering Japanese Rika Fujiwara as the third seeds and the unseeded Taiwanese pair of Kai-Chen Chang and Chia-Jung Chuang trying their fortunes here.
