PYW Doubles Monterrey

Welcome to Monterrey, Mexico! This is the middle in the series of three Latin American events of the spring season on the WTA circuit, but it is the only one to fall on hardcourt. Due to the fact that Monterrey has two other events to compete with this week and isn't before the prestigious Indian Wells and Miami hardcourt events to serve as a warm-up tournament, the line-up isn't quite as strong as last year, which saw players like Czech standouts Iveta Benešová and Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcova and American major champion Vania King in the final. However, the top-seeded Italian duo of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci have certainly had their share of success, particularly at the international level. Also in action, for the second time, is the new Argentinean pairing of Gisela Dulko and the recently-unretired Paola Suárez, who will actually face the fourth seeds and recent Bogotá champions, Eva Birnerová of the Czech Republic and Alexandra Panova of Russia in the first round, which will surely be a thriller. The bottom half sees second-seeded Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm and Chinese Shuai Zhang lead the charge, but there are many other teams in action in both halves, which will surely add excitement to the field.
