This week, the late Whitney Houston becomes the first woman to place three albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart at the same time.

"Whitney: the Greatest Hits" holds at No. 2 with 174,000 (down less than 1% according to Nielsen SoundScan), "The Bodyguard" soundtrack jumps 38-6 (47,000; up 176%) and "Whitney Houston" motors 37-9 (30,000; up 72%).

Chart Moves: Whitney Houston's Album Sales Rise 144%; Madonna's Post-Super Bowl Slide; Adele's 'Rumour' Returns

She's also found at No. 16 ("I Look to You," 19,000; up 109%), No. 30 ("My Love Is Your Love," 15,000; up 312%), No. 39 ("I'm Your Baby Tonight," 13,000; up 262%), No. 105 ("The Preacher's Wife," 5,000; down 30%), No. 126 ("Just Whitney," 4,000; up 57%), No. 133 ("Whitney," 4,000; down 43%). One more title is at No. 73. It's a three-CD bundle of "Baby," "My Love" and "Just Whitney." It sold 7,000 (up 423%).

Whitney Houston Has No. 2 Album, Grammys Push Big Gains On Billboard 200

Houston's Album Sales Climb:*

In total, for the week ending Feb. 26, Houston's albums sold 320,000 (up 29% compared to the previous week's haul of 247,000). She also sold 373,000 tracks this week -- down 75% compared to the week previous (1.5 million). Since her death, she has sold 668,000 albums and 2.76 million tracks.*

As physical stock of Houston's albums are finally reaching retail outlets, we see her older catalog sets moving up the list. Since her death on Feb. 11, the bulk of her album sales have come from digital downloads, as most retailers didn't have physical copies of her albums on-hand.*

This past week, downloads made up 8.4% of her total album sales. That's a steep drop from her digital share the week previous, when downloads were 54% of her overall album sum*.

A Historic Top 10*

Houston's placement of three titles in the Billboard 200's top 10 amazingly marks the first time in almost 44 years an act has accomplished the feat.*

The last time an act scored three simultaneous top 10 sets was on July 6, 1968, when Simon & Garfunkel were at Nos. 1, 2 and 10. That week, "Bookends" was tops, followed by "The Graduate" soundtrack in the runner-up slot and "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" at No. 10.*

Billboard launched its first all-encompassing pop albums chart on Aug. 17, 1963 -- which combined both mono and stereo albums. Previously, we had separate tallies for mono and stereo recordings.*

Since then, aside from Houston and Simon & Garfunkel, the only other acts to net three albums in the top 10 at the same time were the Beatles; Peter, Paul & Mary and Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass. (All did it on various weeks between 1964 and 1966).*

Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass holds the record for the most concurrent top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, with four (April 4, 1966).*

Don't Forget the King of Pop and the Fab Four:*

Presently, the Billboard 200 ranks the week's biggest-selling albums in the U.S. -- regardless of their age. Thus, this is why Houston's self-titled 1985 debut is among the more recently-released in the top 10 this week.*

However, as of the chart dated Dec. 5, 2009, the Billboard 200 altered its rules to let older albums -- also known as "catalog" titles -- to chart alongside newer releases.*

Thus, it must be noted that had the Billboard 200 allowed catalog albums to chart previous to then, both Michael Jackson and the Beatles would have claimed three simultaneous top 10 titles that year.*

On the now-defunct Top Comprehensive Albums chart (which ranked both new and old albums), Michael Jackson posthumously notched three or more of the top 10 for seven different weeks after his death on June 25. For two of those frames (July 25 and Aug. 1) he owned an incredible six of the top 10 best-selling albums of the week.*

Later that year, on Sept. 26, 2009, after the Beatles' reissued and remastered its studio albums on CD, the fab four earned five of the top 10.

I doubt WHYB is going to be a single at this point. They've already squandered quite a big amount of time with releasing YDO and TTT (flops that almost never seem to have even been released), and now they're going for Bday Cake which is going to suffer the same fate probably. And a new album is already being worked on which will probably be hyped by the time summer comes around. They were foolish not to make WHYB a single.

Kathryn merely lacks digital sales right now, which I'm sure will get a boost once the music video comes out and thesong will gets its biggest exposure. Airplay is increasing every day for POM so she is bound to climb higher again on Hot 100.

This is a general statement, but I hate how radio stations don't say what the name of a remix is. It took me forever to find the remix I liked for Rolling in The Deep was the Villa Remix.

Now if anyone can help me find this really good remix of Somebody that I used to Know that was played on z100. It had a lot of bass, you could still hear the regular beat though. Also his first verse is cut into 2, so there was an extra chorus in between.

He's going to debut at #1 next week. Pretty much a lock already.
It isn't a lock yet. Fun are back to #1 on itunes, have far more radio and also those streaming points.

We'll see. But the hype over that atrocious song is embarrassing.

http://www.billboard.com/#/news/justin-bieber-s-boyfriend-debuts-at-no-2-1006664552.story?utm_source=most_recent

Fun.'s "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, tops the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for a fifth week, just holding off Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," which bounds in at No. 2 with the second-highest-ever debut digital sales week.

"Boyfriend" opens atop the Digital Songs chart with 521,000 first-week downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Since SoundScan began tracking digital sales (which first contributed to the Hot 100 the week of Feb. 12, 2005), only Flo Rida's "Right Round" has debuted on Digital Songs with a higher total (636,000, the week of Feb. 28, 2009).

The opening digital sales total for "Boyfriend" is also the fourth-best for any song, debut or already charted. Here are the all-time top five digital sales weeks, according to SoundScan:

636,000 - "Right Round," Flo Rida, Feb. 28, 2009
610,000 - "TiK ToK," Ke$ha, Jan. 9, 2010
559,000 - "Grenade," Bruno Mars, Jan. 8, 2011
521,000 - "Boyfriend," Justin Bieber, April 14, 2012
509,000 - "Born This Way," Lady Gaga, March 5, 2011

"Boyfriend" likewise logs an impressive first week of airplay, debuting at No. 24 on the Radio Songs chart with 40 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. Among newly-released songs by male soloists in the chart's 21-year history, only two have arrived with greater audience totals: Eminem's "Just Lose It" (52 million, Oct, 9, 2004) and Michael Jackson's "Black or White" (41 million, Nov. 23, 1991).

As previously reported, "Boyfriend" registered a history-making bow on the mainstream top 40-based Pop Songs radio airplay chart, launching with 3,961 first-week plays, the best first-week plays sum for a song by a male artist in the chart's almost 20-year archives.

With its No. 2 start, Bieber notches his highest Hot 100 placement. He had previously ranked as high as No. 5 when "Baby" debuted (and peaked) at No. 5 the week of Feb. 6, 2010. (He boasts one other Hot 100 top 10: "Never Say Never" (No. 8, 2011), featuring Jaden Smith.)

Despite the massive first-week numbers for "Boyfriend," fun.'s "We Are Young" leads the Hot 100 for a fifth week. The song slips 1-2 on Digital Songs with 363,000 downloads sold (down 6%). On Radio Songs, "Young" pushes 4-2 with 104 million audience impressions (up 19%), enough to give the song top Airplay Gainer honors on the Hot 100 for a fifth consecutive week.

A notable factor in the chart battle between "Boyfriend" and "Young" is the latter song's upper hand in streaming. "Young" remains atop the On-Demand Songs chart with 1.18 million on-demand streams (flat from last week) in the chart's tracking week, according to BDS.

"Boyfriend," however, logs almost no streaming points among its Hot 100 points total due to its lack of availability on most streaming services during the tracking week, which ended Sunday. Also granting an edge to "Young," albeit slight, was the song's availability at all digital retailers, while "Boyfriend" was released as an iTunes-exclusive track.

Below the tightly-contested fight to the finish atop the Hot 100 this week, other action abounds.

Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, rises 4-3. The collaboration, which tops Alternative Songs for a seventh week, dips 2-3 on Digital Songs but with a 17% gain to 244,000 downloads sold. It advances 20-16 on Radio Songs (52 million, up 23%) and remains at No. 2 on On-Demand Songs (961,000, up 10%).

U.K. boy band the Wanted slips 3-4 on the Hot 100 with "Glad You Came." The song falls 3-8 on Digital Songs (169,000, down 8%) but continues its ascent on Radio Songs, where it climbs 6-4 (95 million, up 15%). On On-Demand Songs, "Glad" descends 3-4 but with a 3% uptick to 645,000.

Kelly Clarkson's former three-week No. 1 "Stronger" rounds out the Hot 100's top five, dropping 2-5. Nicki Minaj's "Starships" slides 5-6 and Flo Rida's "Wild Ones," featuring Sia, and Katy Perry's former leader "Part of Me" hold at Nos. 7 and 8, respectively.

Two pure pop acts, meanwhile, score Hot 100 top 10s in their first chart appearances.

One Direction, the top tier's other British boy band phenomenon in addition to the Wanted, jumps 11-9 with "What Makes You Beautiful." The song rises 7-5 on Digital Songs (199,000, up 22%), 53-42 on Radio Songs (32 million, up 21%) and 15-11 on On-Demand Songs (476,000, up 22%).

At No. 10, Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" darts from No. 18 as the Hot 100's top Digital Gainer. The track roars 9-7 on Digital Songs (182,000, up 32%), debuts on Radio Songs at No. 73 (15 million, up 80%) and jumps 5-3 on On-Demand Songs (662,000, up 24%). The song's success is yet another sign of Bieber's influence, as, as previously reported, he has championed "Maybe" through various forms of social media.

"Maybe" recently spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. This week, "Boyfriend" opens atop Bieber's home country's signature chart, marking his first Canadian Hot 100 No. 1.

Check billboard.com tomorrow (April 5), when all rankings, including the Hot 100 and On-Demand Songs in their entirety and Digital Songs and Radio Songs, will be refreshed, as they are each Thursday.

It is a song that grows on you. When I first listened to It I thought "how in he hell is this in the top 10?" But the actual chorus is very catchy... the rest of the song is incredibly slow sounding. If Id have to guess this will be Gotye's one and only #1 in America but atleast it was a neat one :).

Anyway 40k is fairly pathetic for a band claiming to be superior to One Direction, the latter having sold WAY more. It seems like they are all little bitches who need to **** about everybody. They've bitched about a lot of other artists too.

HALLELUJAH!!!!!!! LOVE the Harvard and SMU "covers". Such a great little song that I probably wouldn't have discovered half as soon as I did. It was like 5 or 6 weeks ago and I was looking at the Billboard chart and I didn't know the song at all. I think it was 10 at that time. It wasn't what I was expecting. I thought she might be some kind of Disney girl or sth. But she's totes awes and you need look no further than her audition for Canadian Idol. And CMM is pop music perfection! :inlove:

Carly Rae Jepsen Hits No. 1: 'Call' Connects Atop Hot 100
by Gary Trust, N.Y. | June 13, 2012 11:15 EDT

Carly Rae Jepsen sends her pop culture juggernaut "Call Me Maybe" to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, dethroning Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, after eight weeks at the chart's summit.

"Call," the choice for buzz-worthy YouTube sing-and/or-dance-along videos from everyone from Justin Bieber and some high-profile friends to the Harvard University baseball team, rises 2-1 on the Hot 100 courtesy of gains on the Digital Songs, Radio Songs and On-Demand Songs charts.

The cut logs a fourth week at No. 1 on Digital Songs with a 4% gain to 296,000 downloads sold in the chart's tracking week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. With its latest sales frame, it passes the 3-million mark (3.3 million) in downloads sold to date.

On Radio Songs, "Call" lifts 4-2 with 117 million in all-format audience (up 14%), according to Nielsen BDS. It also climbs 2-1 on the mainstream top 40-based Pop Songs radio airplay chart.

As on the Hot 100, the song succeeds Gotye's track at No. 1 on On-Demand Songs, where it pushes 2-1 with 1.1 million on-demand streams, according to BDS.

With her Hot 100 coronation, Jepsen is the first lead female to top the chart in a debut visit since Ke$ha sent "TiK ToK" to the top for nine weeks beginning the week of Jan. 2, 2010. Before that, Lady Gaga was the last rookie female to conquer the Hot 100 on a first try when "Just Dance," featuring Colby O'Donis, began a three-week command the week of Jan. 17, 2009.

Jepsen is in good company: following "TiK ToK," Ke$ha has added seven more Hot 100 top 10s, including her second No. 1, "We R Who We R," in 2010. Lady Gaga, of course, has become not only a chart force but also a worldwide household name. She's banked 10 more Hot 100 top 10s after "Dance," including two more No. 1s, "Poker Face" (2009) and "Born This Way" (2011).

"Call" was first a hit in Jepsen's home country of Canada, as the Mission, British Columbia, native took the song to No. 1 for four weeks on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 beginning in February. After fellow Canadian Justin Bieber Tweeted his affinity for the song to his more than 20 million Twitter followers and produced a video in which he, Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale sang it, the U.S. success of "Call" surged. Jepsen is signed to the Schoolboy Records imprint, established by Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun.

Gotye's "Somebody," meanwhile, slips 1-2 on the Hot 100 after its eight-week reign. The song remains atop Radio Songs for a fourth week (141 million, down 3%), holds at No. 3 on Digital Songs (213,000, down 14%) and descends 1-2 on On-Demand Songs (1 million, down 4%).

The Nos. 3 and 4 songs on the Hot 100 remain static from last week: Maroon 5's "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa, and fun.'s former six-week Hot 100 No. 1 "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, respectively.

One Direction's former No. 4 hit "What Makes You Beautiful" rises 6-5, swapping spots with Nicki Minaj's "Starships" (5-6), while Flo Rida's "Wild Ones," featuring Sia, stays at No. 7.

After the song became her 22nd Hot 100 top 10 last week - the fifth-best sum among women in the chart's more than five-decade history, Rihanna's "Where Have You Been" pushes 9-8 this week. It bullets again at No. 9 on Radio Songs (74 million, up 14%) and powers 32-23 on On-Demand Songs (335,000, up 17%). On Digital Songs, "Where" falls 6-7 (132,000, down 9%).

Katy Perry flies 19-9 on the Hot 100 with "Wide Awake," the second single from her "Teenage Dream: the Complete Confection" reissue album. First single "Part of Me" debuted at No. 1 the week of March 3. "Awake," Perry's 11th career top 10 dating to her first, the seven-week No. 1 "I Kissed a Girl" four years ago, and her eighth consecutive top 10 single promoted to radio (six of which have topped the Hot 100), claims dual top Digital and Airplay Gainer honors on the Hot 100, bounding 12-4 on Digital Songs (173,000, up 60%) and 35-14 on Radio Songs (49 million, up 40%).

"Awake," which Perry first performed live at the Billboard Music Awards (May 20), is approaching the 50-position On-Demand Songs chart, with 215,000 on-demand streams (up 69%) in the survey's tracking week.

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Bieber's "Boyfriend" slides 8-10. With the teen superstar's third studio album, "Believe," due Tuesday (June 19), another track from the set, "All Around the World," featuring Ludacris, is the Hot 100's Hot Shot Debut at No. 22. It starts at No. 5 on Digital Songs (157,000). Last week, fellow preview cut "Die in Your Arms" entered the Hot 100 at No. 17 and Digital Songs at No. 4 (185,000).
