I used to love her when she played tennis, but she has become a total attention seeker in her old age. First that "I'm a Celebrity" bollocks reality show she did here in the UK and now this. I suppose she'll roll out the whole "it's for charity" excuse...

I don't watch this show, because I can't stand seeing bad dancing, but good luck to Martina. I guess Monica didn't charm viewers. Martina is so much more used to reality shows, so she'll probably do all right (if she can dance).

Who is Katherine Jenkins? Basically, this show has so many people I've never heard of.

Katherine Jenkins is not a proper opera singer. She is a 'cross over' - she sings light pop classical. She is the most successful recording artist of her ilk.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same way, "just have fun with it"...Hingis wasn't too bad in her debut (English version) but nevertheless got booted off, Monica was like a manequin in her DWTS stint so she can only hope to improve on that dismal outing....good luck!

Thank you!

Martina looks GREAT! Reminds me of Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity!

I hope she does well. But failed footsie player Len obviously does NOT like tennis players. He slagged off Martina Hingis big time in the press when she was on the UK version. He is such a pretend cockney.

Good luck Martina.

Thanks for the YouTube link!

Martina has never looked so good! I mean she always looked fine, but the makeup/hair people really found a style that made her look great. Also, she's so gung ho, and she acknowledged that she's more sporty than feminine. Anyway, considering all things (including not seeing any of the other dancers), I think Martina did rather well for the first night. She is stiff, she is using her upper arm strength to her disadvantage, and she is too cautious. The criticisms were right on and not mean-spirited.

So nice of Chris Evert to come support Martina, too.

Still not going to watch this show.

She's not going to win, but she acquitted herself well for the first night.

Meant to add:

Is that Mitt Romney presenting? He gets around!

When has he ever been that lively?

She got a 20 out of 30 from the judges. Two other teams got the same score. Those 3 teams are currently tied for last, but they will be adding the judges scores from this week + audience call-ins to scores for next week's dance + audience call-ins before they eliminate anyone.

Martina is doing the "jive" I think next week.

Well 20 was the lowest score, so the average for all teams combined would be higher. They said generally it was the best first night of the show they ever had.

Martina looked fabulous! The judges' words were spot on, though. I have only seen the Youtube snippet of her dancing, so cannot compare to the others. To be honest there was not much real foxtrot in Martina & Tony's choreography. Foxtrot is a very difficult dance and so is jive for a beginner, so not an easy start for any of the participants.

Martina is up against some tough competition. It was the best opening show of DWTS I've seen. She looked good. Her dancing was a little stiff, but not bad (better than Seles for sure). She looked more uncomfortable than any other celebrity. She's the one I'd vote out based on the performances last night. Nevertheless, she's much better than some of the weaker celebrities from previous seasons.

I would be very surprised if Martina isn't eliminated tonight. She is clearly out of her element here; not so much the dresses and high heels she has to wear, but in ballroom dancing, the woman has to let the man lead her, and Martina is used to being the one in charge.

Martina Navratilova First Celeb Eliminated From ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 14

Martina Navratilova is a legend on the tennis court but tonight she became the first competitor eliminated in season 14 of “Dancing With the Stars.”

Navratilova and singer Gavin DeGraw were both in jeopardy after ending up with the lowest scores after audience votes and points from the judges were combined.

Navratilova looked disappointed when she learned she was going home.

“It was an amazing experience,” she said, after hugging partner Tony Dovolani. “I just wish it had lasted longer. I gave it everything I had but I blew it yesterday and it cost me.”

She also wished the other competitors “great luck.”

Navratilova’s combined score from performances on Monday night and March 19 landed her on the bottom of the leader board. Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins was the top-scorer on both nights.

The tennis star missed some of the steps during her jive on Monday, and her foxtrot from the season debut, while thought to be elegant and refined, was “too careful,” head judge Len Goodman told her.

As was Hingis in the UK version. They just don't have the fan base of other so called celebs. On a recent quiz show only 17 people out of 100 recognised who Hingis was from her photo! I was surprised but then not surprised. Tennis isn't as popular with the masses as some on here think.

Not true. But a male tennis player would fair better than a woman would IMO. Male athletes get Carrie Ann & Bruno horny and poor Len just has to deal with it.

Anna K apparently was asked to do it and said no. She says she gets quite a few reality offers (on the Ask Anna section of her website).

Well Monica was the first out when she went on. Anybody see a pattern here?

And Martina Hingis first out on Strictly Come Dancing a few years ago too.

Tennis is not popular.:oh: I am waiting Sharapova to be on the show someday if the show still exist.:oh:

Martina Navrartilova came second on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here here in the UK a few years ago.

I don't get that one of the stars is a professional dancer (Roshon Fegan)

I don't get why they are doing that. They have clearly done it before.

Yeah basically a crappy rip-off of Survivor involving celebs ITV invented that effectively replaced Survivor UK. Unlike Survivor no skills or game-play is required, its a pure personality contest that various Z-listers compete at on an annual basis.
