I got bored and didn't watch much.
Their seemed to be some good rallies halfway through the 2nd set. From the stats it looks like a pretty crappy match though.

Entertaining stuff. Sveta hardly put a foot wrong up until 6-2 2-1, doing a very good job of going after the second serve, also wasn't afraid to attack the forehand. Then it became a dogfight, with many breaks of serve and that horrific miss that set the tone for the rest of the breaker. Didn't watch the decider, but as Jules first serve picked up late in the previous set and judging from the match stats, I guess it didn't let her down after that.

Good win Julia, good serving in 3rd set and good fight, wasn´t a great match but important win for Julia as this should give her some confidence for the future, she has too many up´s and down´s in her game yet, I hope that wins like that help her to get mentally stronger at least! :)

But same here, that last service game wasn´t convincing at all, but lucky that she faces Sveta :tape:

1st set was really good , tough conditions but not many mistakes, showed that she is normally the better player but then..:silly: I mean, she is famous for her chokes but that was just too much, awful, Görges wasn´t able to take control over the match, gave her the break right back to a *43 lead in 2nd set but even that wasn´t enough for Sveta to win it :lol: :help:

I am very happy for Julia that she managed to turn an entertaining match around after she was a set and an early break down. As she won the TB very solid and the decider (firm service games, no BPs) with a break up, Julia should gain confidence and some momentum for her next tasks at Indian Wells & Miami (against Vika she had nothing to lose but can only win).

Very unlikely. As Top 20 player Sveta had a respectable start of the season (race: # 21), her overall results after French Open 2011 are good enough for Top 30.

This match kept awaking in me Proustian reminiscences (of the nightmarish variety) of all those tight matches Nicole lost to Kuznetsova - this matchup is just so similar.

But whereas Nicole would completely outplay and boss around Kuznetsova for 85% of the match only to fold when it mattered, Julinha played unspeakably shite throughout, particularly on return, but eventually found a way to win by steadying herself and allowing Kuznetsova to throw away the match.

Stats are misleading - it was even worse than they suggest. :tape: I remember both Julinha and Kuznetsova had a positive winner to UE ratio in the first set, and it was total shite. Even when Julinha began returning Kuznetsova's serve here and there late in the second it was poor quality because Kuznetsova started stinking up the joint (seemed tired - clearly not working to improve her fitness at all). Conditions very tough for Julinha's elaborate swings and stiff footwork.

In the first set I thought the "old" Sveta (who was no. 2 in the world) was coming back, but alas the "new" Sveta (world no. 27 soon to be 30) arrived :sad:

She needs a new coach and a male one to boot. She played so much better when she was with that Spanish male coach. I don't think female coaches are strong enough for her.

Kuznetsova has a complete game, but her concentration/desire is lacking.

There is no other explanation for such poor results :shrug:

She probably thinks, "Oh well, I got final twice here, can't be arsed."

I assume she'll do well on clay, but yeah, glad Julia won, shoddy display, too many loose shots, needs to step it up and stop bottling as her timing is so up and down.

Kuzzy could bounce back at another big clay tournament/GS, but it just depends on if she's in the mood. She's won 2 GS so whatevs :shrug:

I was following the score via mobile phone and I totally saw this coming. Didn't watch it but it's not really that hard to imagine how Sveta played in the 3rd set. Let me guess: pushing (badly) and playing to middle of the court, grunting as hard as she can, not moving her feet, serving a la Errani. Same old story.

Whatever Svetlana. Enjoy your girlfriend's great body company and start playing tennis again when you care.

Watch Sweater go into Roland Garros ranked #41 and unseeded and not drop a set en route to the title. Then get back into the Top 11 and go 15-18 between Frenches before losing 2R at RG '13 to LL-Julia Cohen.
