Dubai R1: Goerges def. Kuznetsova 2-6 7-6(2) 6-4monmonito Feb 20th, 2012, 04:29 PM congrats Julia! TTomek Feb 20th, 2012, 04:29 PM Sveta  saul1333 Feb 20th, 2012, 04:29 PM Good stuff :yeah: FORZA SARITA Feb 20th, 2012, 04:30 PM Sveta is such a headcase  so pathetic :weirdo: Julia enjoy your fistpums because you can beat only these headcases :weirdo: Jimmie48 Feb 20th, 2012, 04:30 PM Julia! :cheer: The first set was cringe-worthy but nice work to get back into the match and give Kuznetsova the chance to blow it :) madmax Feb 20th, 2012, 04:31 PM Jules:bounce::cheer: better player obviously won Steff_forever Feb 20th, 2012, 04:31 PM well done JULE !!!! :yeah: nxt up the invincible shrieker :( Excelscior Feb 20th, 2012, 04:31 PM Crazy Match. Sveta. Mmmhhhh. And always expected the unexpected from Julia. Speaking of that. Now she plays Azarenka. Let's see if Julia can make another name of/redeem her self after last years clay court season beating the #1 ranked player twice (with crooked eye)? TheBoiledEgg Feb 20th, 2012, 04:31 PM how many matches as Sveta lost when from the 1st brainfart in match she completly loses the plot  she had this in bag but we've seen it too often before Break My Rapture Feb 20th, 2012, 04:31 PM Yas. Well done JuGs. améliemomo Feb 20th, 2012, 04:31 PM svetlana has become so predictable:tape::tape: jasonbloom Feb 20th, 2012, 04:31 PM Please welcome the new queen of choke:bowdown: HuHu Feb 20th, 2012, 04:33 PM http://i44.tinypic.com/25fm810.jpg Holdsworth Feb 20th, 2012, 04:33 PM Such a mess.. Sexlana should retire.. Julia, congrats TennisFanForever Feb 20th, 2012, 04:34 PM Typical Kuznetsova scoreline :oh: G&R Feb 20th, 2012, 04:34 PM Well done Julia, tough conditions out there. Svetlana totally lost it after the first set FakeMashabator Feb 20th, 2012, 04:34 PM typical sveta..good luck against vika, julia :) TuxedoSlam Feb 20th, 2012, 04:35 PM The only good thing about Sveta were those fluorescent shorts  Sharapovian Feb 20th, 2012, 04:35 PM Some help from Sveta to get back into the match  but nevertheless well done Julia. MaSharp Feb 20th, 2012, 04:36 PM Congrats to Julia, but Svetlana...:S She damaged my draw for Dubai...:/ NeKo Feb 20th, 2012, 04:36 PM http://i44.tinypic.com/25fm810.jpg omg at UEs. Congrats Julia, but she should make less UEs against Azarenka. Xepher Feb 20th, 2012, 04:38 PM Sveta  the final game was such a fail Invisible Fan Feb 20th, 2012, 04:44 PM I got bored and didn't watch much. Their seemed to be some good rallies halfway through the 2nd set. From the stats it looks like a pretty crappy match though. flareon Feb 20th, 2012, 04:46 PM Sveta soon out of top 30  well played julia never gave up and deserved it in the end. that tiebreak from sveta  RagingBull99 Feb 20th, 2012, 04:48 PM omg at UEs. Congrats Julia, but she should make less UEs against Azarenka. Even Jules can't produce 40 UE's in 45 minutes. Nalby fan Feb 20th, 2012, 04:49 PM Just when you think there's no way for Sveta to be a bigger headcase, she goes and misses that absolute sitter of a smash in the TB. Great fight from Julia however. :hatoff: matty Feb 20th, 2012, 04:50 PM I miss the old Sveta--hope she comes back soon  Shinjiro Feb 20th, 2012, 04:50 PM Entertaining stuff. Sveta hardly put a foot wrong up until 6-2 2-1, doing a very good job of going after the second serve, also wasn't afraid to attack the forehand. Then it became a dogfight, with many breaks of serve and that horrific miss that set the tone for the rest of the breaker. Didn't watch the decider, but as Jules first serve picked up late in the previous set and judging from the match stats, I guess it didn't let her down after that. Michael! Feb 20th, 2012, 04:58 PM Good win Julia, good serving in 3rd set and good fight, wasn´t a great match but important win for Julia as this should give her some confidence for the future, she has too many up´s and down´s in her game yet, I hope that wins like that help her to get mentally stronger at least! :) But same here, that last service game wasn´t convincing at all, but lucky that she faces Sveta :tape: Sveta  :o 1st set was really good , tough conditions but not many mistakes, showed that she is normally the better player but then..:silly: I mean, she is famous for her chokes but that was just too much, awful, Görges wasn´t able to take control over the match, gave her the break right back to a *43 lead in 2nd set but even that wasn´t enough for Sveta to win it  :help: Mitten Kitten Feb 20th, 2012, 05:01 PM Sveta was beyond horrible  dsanders06 Feb 20th, 2012, 05:06 PM :o New low for Kuznetsova? Stonerpova Feb 20th, 2012, 05:17 PM Happy for Goerges, gutted for Sveta. How the mighty have fallen  Tennis Observer Feb 20th, 2012, 05:20 PM I am very happy for Julia that she managed to turn an entertaining match around after she was a set and an early break down. As she won the TB very solid and the decider (firm service games, no BPs) with a break up, Julia should gain confidence and some momentum for her next tasks at Indian Wells & Miami (against Vika she had nothing to lose but can only win). Sveta soon out of top 30  […] Very unlikely. As Top 20 player Sveta had a respectable start of the season (race: # 21), her overall results after French Open 2011 are good enough for Top 30. FedererBulgaria Feb 20th, 2012, 05:23 PM Good match Johnbert Feb 20th, 2012, 06:17 PM jules  Vikapower Feb 20th, 2012, 06:37 PM :D Julia, that's more like it. Cilla Feb 20th, 2012, 06:45 PM What is the ratio of Sveta's losses from a set & break up? I'd love to know :tape: Belmont Lad Feb 20th, 2012, 07:01 PM Sveta :help: Sombrerero loco Feb 20th, 2012, 07:07 PM sveta  doomsday Feb 20th, 2012, 07:08 PM The end is near. LightWarrior Feb 20th, 2012, 07:20 PM What the deal with Kuzny's newly chopped forehand ? Did she borrow it from Pironkova ? rucolo Feb 20th, 2012, 07:30 PM Great fight against Sexlana, Julia! :D  Very happy Julia won this match, important for her confidence :hearts: Dubai R2 vs world #1 Azarenka. Please win 1 game :help: RobinT83 Feb 20th, 2012, 09:39 PM Another terrible loss for Kuznet :o Losing to Hypeges is very embarrassing for her, obviously. She should retire after this match to save herself. Supercake Feb 20th, 2012, 09:43 PM  Corswandt Feb 20th, 2012, 09:45 PM :cheer: Julinha :cheer: This match kept awaking in me Proustian reminiscences (of the nightmarish variety) of all those tight matches Nicole lost to Kuznetsova - this matchup is just so similar. But whereas Nicole would completely outplay and boss around Kuznetsova for 85% of the match only to fold when it mattered, Julinha played unspeakably shite throughout, particularly on return, but eventually found a way to win by steadying herself and allowing Kuznetsova to throw away the match. I got bored and didn't watch much. Their seemed to be some good rallies halfway through the 2nd set. From the stats it looks like a pretty crappy match though. Stats are misleading - it was even worse than they suggest. :tape: I remember both Julinha and Kuznetsova had a positive winner to UE ratio in the first set, and it was total shite. Even when Julinha began returning Kuznetsova's serve here and there late in the second it was poor quality because Kuznetsova started stinking up the joint (seemed tired - clearly not working to improve her fitness at all). Conditions very tough for Julinha's elaborate swings and stiff footwork. hankqq Feb 20th, 2012, 10:38 PM another awful collapse from Kuznetsova  :o Bronx19 Feb 20th, 2012, 10:40 PM Female Russians. What a mix. PetraReeMona Feb 20th, 2012, 11:12 PM In the first set I thought the "old" Sveta (who was no. 2 in the world) was coming back, but alas the "new" Sveta (world no. 27 soon to be 30) arrived  She needs a new coach and a male one to boot. She played so much better when she was with that Spanish male coach. I don't think female coaches are strong enough for her. Oy  CillyUltra Feb 20th, 2012, 11:32 PM Very, very well done Jule. :) Craig. Feb 20th, 2012, 11:34 PM YES :yeah: toxina90 Feb 21st, 2012, 12:02 AM I like both but was torn here. Kuznetsova has a complete game, but her concentration/desire is lacking. There is no other explanation for such poor results  She probably thinks, "Oh well, I got final twice here, can't be arsed." I assume she'll do well on clay, but yeah, glad Julia won, shoddy display, too many loose shots, needs to step it up and stop bottling as her timing is so up and down. Kuzzy could bounce back at another big clay tournament/GS, but it just depends on if she's in the mood. She's won 2 GS so whatevs  Good luck Julia next round :worship: if you're on and cut out those errors, can't see why you can't challenge #1 who wasn't even hitting very hard last week. pedropt Feb 21st, 2012, 12:25 AM I was following the score via mobile phone and I totally saw this coming. Didn't watch it but it's not really that hard to imagine how Sveta played in the 3rd set. Let me guess: pushing (badly) and playing to middle of the court, grunting as hard as she can, not moving her feet, serving a la Errani. Same old story. Whatever Svetlana. Enjoy your girlfriend's great body company and start playing tennis again when you care. Hurley Feb 21st, 2012, 12:55 AM Watch Sweater go into Roland Garros ranked #41 and unseeded and not drop a set en route to the title. Then get back into the Top 11 and go 15-18 between Frenches before losing 2R at RG '13 to LL-Julia Cohen. | |
