A certain club of players are getting  They don't deserve the privilege of the opportunity to do what millions of others would love to. I really hope the likes of Vika, Petra, Maria, Aga, Marion and others (including Caroline!) finally lay to rest yesteryears' part-time Divas. Enough already.

May 2012 be the last of these shenanigans. Play the Olympic year, retire, earn your $s elsewhere and leave the Tour alone.

Well, maybe it wasn't planned but she's just being careful, she played AO because it was a slam (just like Masha played YEC so soon after the ankle injury) but she doesn't want to risk too much just to play a little tournament.
I don't see anything bad in it, I mean, she doesn't have to prove anything to anyone so she just focuses on big events/slams/olympics.

The pain appeared just at the exact last practice session ? Knowing Serena's history it's hard to believe but she knows her body, I guess.

Serena pulling out of Monterrey, yeah shocking... Just like Kim pulling out of Indian Wells, shocking ! Kim makes an announement that she's pulling out on Feb 14, and the IW tournament isn't until March 5! Let's face it, Serena and Kim's only concern right now is the Gold Medal. And, of course, Wimbledon for Serena. They will play enough tournaments to keep their edge for the Olympics.

so over Serena's lack of ambition. where was the player at Wimbledon last year and the US Open series?

StephenUK
Feb 18th, 2012, 11:08 PM
The tournament director is either a total fool or a ham actor. How can anyone in their right mind 'be confident' that Serena would play this sort of event? :tape: Her track record is so dire that I don't know why she even bothers to enter.

When it comes down to it, most players have some sort of niggling injury that they can use as an excuse when they don't want to play somewhere - Serena copied this from Steffi Graf. I can't count the number of times I went to Eastbourne with a picture of Steffi on the cover of the programme; Steffi would pull out with an injury and then win Wimbledon over the next two weeks; it was like clockwork. Funnily enough, the only time Steffi played was in 1998 when she missed Roland Garros through her worst injury break up to then and needed the match practice (I saw her lose to Anna Kournikova in the qf, one of Anna's greatest wins - Steffi was never to win Eastbourne).

It's all about as convincing as telling your teacher you have 'forgotten' your homework when you haven't done it. You have to go through the motions to avoid getting in trouble but no-one really believes it, even if it is occasionally true.

Just read on twitter that the tournament organization has sent MARIACHIS to receive her at the airport. Nothing in the world can be tackier than mariachis, she is right not to play here :P.
Now speaking seriously, from the moment I heard she was "playing" here I thought: "I won't beleive it until I see her standing on court and holding a racket". I don't fully beleive Serena's version and the tournament director's tears either. He can not be such a fool.

She tore ligaments bitch, lig-a-ments. Wikipedia that-T.
The only reason she played Australian Open was because it was a grand-slam, and bitch you just KNOW that if she didn't the tournament would have been more of a mess than it already was.
