Falconi is doing the accelerated fast track of the Melanie Oudin route. She seemed so high on herself at the press conference in Midland last week.

:haha: Sweet. Sanchez played/plays at USC right? She played doubles with Niculescu's sister in 09 there too.

Q. You're tired of hearing that. You spoke about belief in your game. What is your belief in your own game? How high do you think you can go in this terribly competitive game?

IRINA FALCONI: I don't really think there's a limit. I've been told that I'm 5'4", in case you didn't know. One thing I did go in there today knowing was that I was taller than my opponent, which was huge. I know Justine Henin, she was 5'6" and she was 1 in the world. I know for a fact if she can do it, why not?

Wait, I'm 5'11'' and so was Lleyton Hewitt, that means I'm destined to become number 1 in the world? Oh wow thank you Irina for letting me know, heading to the tennis court right now to claim what's mine :wavey:

What do you all have against players being positive and confident--every pro dreams of being #1. Ok, so maybe she's delusional, but no reason for all this glee when she loses.

People that take pleasure in others failings have major insecurity issues.

Yeah, which is why I'm not surprised at this result. Sanchez beat Falconi in 2010, which was one of Irina's like 3 losses that year. Maria was ranked number 1 in college last year and I expect a great year from her this year.

With the way she was talking back at the US Open. I'd expect more from Irina.

Don't forget:

Q. You recently turned 21. Do you have plans on celebrating anytime soon?

IRINA FALCONI: Tournament's not over yet. There's still five other matches to be won.

Falconi is turning into Failconi. She lost 6-1 6-2 to Madison Brengle the other week, she's perilously close to losing her top 100 place now.
