Not a good match at all form Mona. Decision-making was nice, but execution obviously wasn't. She's better than what she showed.

Aww poor Mona. Wish she had gotten an easier draw. Well done Vika. Let's get the #1 ranking back to looking prestigious. :bounce:

 World #1 simple as that.

Lol no seriously, awesome movement for Victoria, great shots, ROS but you could still feel she was trying to fight off some 'rust', feel the conditions etc... wasn't an easy match and still steam-rolled Mona 1 and 0. Tad less Ue Vika would be all righty.

Mona seemed to be trying for too much certainly the indication to the haters who was calling for post-slam slump that even Vika's B-like game is enough to annihilate the rest of the field. Next.

Improve again and again. :cheer:

Well, at least Barthel can take solace in the fact she only did 2 games worse than the #2 seed.

dsanders06
Feb 15th, 2012, 05:57 PM
8 votes for Barthel? What the fuck?

Azarenka should win something like 6-1 6-0.

:lick:

Any hopes of a post-Slam slump were wishful thinking... unlike last year's first-time Slam champions, Azarenka is already used to having attention on her having been in the top tier since mid-2009. She'll probably take this title without even getting out of second gear.

gutsy from Mona. but not quite there. Azarenka played it smart and didn't do much.

I thought Vika played pretty badly today, but she's definitely not slumping. Barthel was arguably the toughest scrub Vika could've drawn, but she only lost one game.

Oh well, I don't think Vika has to play near her AO level to actually win this tournament (and Dubai if she cares, for that matter). That said, I think this surface is too fast for Vika's liking. She was late on a lot of shots.

You sure you know about tennis dude ? Victoria did force lots of errors from Mona actually 16 which is also why of the reasons Mona was going for too much many times, yeah so much for pusher's stats, get a clue.

She's a nice girl, I got to like her today.:)
I must agree with Patrick though. He said she was not as bad as the result shows, it's just Azarenka being too consistent today.

She was late, because Barthel was murdering the ball. She did good to bring the first shots back with depth before Barthel made an error. The court is actually more on the slower side I think.

Mostly solid from Azarenka but she had a lot of help from Barthel whose GPS must have been on the blink.

What is this bullshit? "That group"? Sounds like something from high school with popular cliques and whatever. Serena, Clijsters and co are not "cool" because they're careless about certain tournaments. They're part-timers and quite frankly I'm sick of them.

I think it´s more that her mental and physical gas tank were running on empty. She has already played 21 matches after six weeks. That would translate to roughly 150 matches for the year.

I'm sick of this too but that's not my point here. I just found funny the way you said this as if if Vika lose now it all only be because she doesn't care that much.

I do think the hype about Azarenka is starting to get out of control (bandwagon jumper-in-chief Sam Smith is already stating she'd be "stunned" if Azarenka doesn't win another Slam this year  ), but I do think it's fair to say THIS tournament is in Azarenka's hands if she cares enough, the field being as weak as it is. Who's really going to stop her? Radwanska? :spit: Stosur is her bitch. Kuznetsova is the only one who has the potential to beat her, but it would require one of her once-in-a-blue moon great tournaments... and even in that scenario I don't know if she'll have the consistency to hit through Azarenka on a slow hardcourt like this (I've picked Kuz to make the final again before losing to Azarenka there).

Hopefully we do get Petra in Dubai next week so that Azarenka finally gets a test (though I won't hold my breath of her showing up).

Since both Dubai and Doha are basically the same field, Azarenka will walk away with both Titles and a hype machine the size of China.

Which of the AO semifinalists would've been a better QF draw for Radwanska? I don't think she'd've beaten Maria, Kim or Petra, infact Azarenka was probably the best match-up for her on offer.
